Comfort Suites Olive Branch2.0 out of 5.0

The only reason this review gets a 3 is because of the very friendly staff. Without that, this would have been a 1 or 2 star review. With the exception of the person who takes care of the breakfast area, all of the staff was amazingly friendly. As far as the hotel is concerned, we chose this hotel over others based on the overall avg of reviews. We drove 30 minutes out of our way to stay here and maybe I was expecting to much but... the furniture is worn, the carpets in the hallways and elevator are very dirty and a lot of dirt and grime on the outside of hotel. It is conveniently located but for a Comfort Suites, it is definitely a disappointment. Our breakfast food was cold every (and I mean every) morning. We had to microwave food to get it warm enough to eat. On our visit, they ran out of English Muffins and Waffle Mix. We told the breakfast person and she acted as if she could care less. Enough with the food issues and back to the room. The actual Suite is large and the beds tall and comfy. As noted earlier, the furniture is worn and the TV reception is not clear at all. I was expecting a great experience and was very underwhelmed.
The Good: The hotel itself is a very nice hotel and the front desk staff was good to work with. The breakfast was as you would expect for a Choice Hotels chain! The room was furnished very nicely.. The hotel was packed both nights I was there. Lots of high school aged kids on the Thursday night (think it was some kind of church group), but the hall way never got quiet until after 11pm. Then on Friday night, was the baseball youth turn. However, Friday night, never heard a word in the hallway! Until I went down for breakfast, the poor people supplying the breakfast area could not get food out quick enough! I settled for a cup of coffee and 3 apples! The Bad: I could not get the thermostat dialed in on the temp... It was either too damn cold or too hot! But that was the only bad part of the room! Also, it stormed the 2nd night I was there, and the power was flickering on and off at the hotel. The Ugly: This is where things took the turn down hill... I'm pretty certain when I called Choice Hotels to make the reservation, I told them July 13 and 14. Well, the hotel had me down for the 12th (not sure if they even had me down for the 13th). When I arrived to check in, the lady at the front desk said that there was no reservation for me. But, my name had sounded familiar. As she was making the new reservation for the 13th and 14th, she said that I had a room the night before. I explained that I made the reservation for the 13th and 14th, not the 12th. Either way, they had put me down as a No Show, and charged my credit card. I was a little upset, but I kept my calm. I asked her why they didn't call to check on me to see if I was going to be a late check-in or something? She said that they must not have had time to call or that they normally don't call. I explained to her, and the manager the following morning, that maybe in the future, if it's already 7 or 8pm and someone hasn't checked in, maybe they should call to see if they are still coming or if they had an issue. Or in my case, to find out that the reservation dates didn't match. So, my suggestion to the hotel in the future would be to call any reservation that hasn't checked in to see if they are still coming or not. Not just charge their credit card. I even called Choice Hotels and they supposedly opened an investigation with the booking agent. The response I got back is "We can not back up our booking agent". So, we would like to give you 5000 points towards a free night. I asked, how about just refunding my card for the night that I had not budgeted for in my monthly budget. It would be one thing if I had an extra $140 sitting around, but like most people, I pretty much live paycheck to paycheck. Sure, my employer is covering the two nights I was there. But who has to pay for the night that I got charged for? Me! It's because of this, I'm giving the hotel a 2 star rating.
It's our first night here and I can't sleep. My family is tired and I have some anxiety about staying here. On the elevator to our room I noticed streaks on the walls suggesting whoever cleaned it used a dirty rag or just smeared the rag around. We entered our room and immediately saw the floor wasn't vacuumed. One phone doesn't work (there is a dial tone but the buttons don't seem to work) and one light in the room doesn't work. Not thrilled and not wanting to be annoyed all weekend, I returned to the front desk to see if we could get a different room. The woman at the desk was very friendly and offered to let me look at the one other room that was available. It too needed vacuumed, and it had a broken lamp with something spilled on it. The paper on the desk had kids writing all over it. My husband and I decided to deal with the room we had. Subsequently, I saw nose wiping across one of the headboards and hair that didn't belong to either of us. We got Clorox wipes and wiped the entire room down several times. Our child was exhausted and asleep in one bed and I refuse to use the other. Staffing seems ridiculously low tonight. I have believe there is only one employee here and she is running around trying to cover everything. That suggests a lack of proper management oversight or too tight of a budget by the owner. It's not putting guest needs very high. Based on my experience tonight, I'd say any germiphobe should definitely not stay here. If you're really laid back or on a tight budget and can get the room for under $80, then bring your Clorox wipes and give it a try. $125 a night? Heck, no!
Arrived and the front desk clerk was very friendly. The first floor was cool; however, the hallways on the fourth floor were hot. The room did have nice decor, but the carpet was not properly vacuumed. There were light stains, or what I hope were stains, on the bedding. The worst part is that housekeeping failed to clean diarrhea or vomit off the lid and side of the toilet. The same diarrhea or vomit was on the shower curtain. The hotel is not being maintained, as someone had pulled out the shower rod and it has not been fixed, at least properly repaired. I would not stay at this hotel again.
This is not a 5 star hotel but is very nice for the price you pay. The beds were nice and the rooms were clean. The staff was very nice and recommended some good local memphis food. I would come back again if I'm back in this area.
Was teavleing on vaction and had car trouble. Checked in late and the clerk was more then helpful and the rooms were great and breakfast was a plus! Sometimes the service makes the stay and she diffently made ours!!
We were driving through and stopped on our way home. Great rooms. Comfortable beds. Older property but well kept up. Kids enjoyed the big tv! Breakfast was okay, what you expect from a hotel breakfast. Nothing fancy. If ever passing through, will stay again.
This hotel has masked it's issue by some what decent decor. However their priorities seem to be out of order. We rented the suite #317. #1 the air unit did not work in the separate bedroom. Was pretty much told we were out of luck, due to there not being a maintenance guy on premises. Now, it's early spring, so it is still chilly here and it was raining. #2 the fold out sleeper sofa, yeah it's dated and dirty. I know sleeper sofas are not luxurious, but this thing was solid springs and worn out. #3 light in bathroom was out. #4 you can hear everything in the Halls and from other rooms. #5 just as I was sitting here on my phone, some form of bug decided to land on the pillow beside me.
Terrible. After driving all night (working almost a full day Friday & then leaving on an 11 1/2 hour drive) I checked in at 5:35 AM Saturday (04152017) morning. The young lady that handled my check-in did not mention anything to me about the fact that even though I was checking in that late-I would still have to check out of the hotel at 11:00 AM that day. She even programmed my door keycards for checkout Sunday morning (I know this cause my keycard worked Saturday evening when I left the hotel). Well, while half asleep, at 1100 Saturday morning-I get a call from the front desk saying I was supposed to check out at 1100 otherwise I'd have to pay for another night... I got an initial receipt under my door indicating I'd only be charged for one night however, after leaving the hotel-I received another receipt indicating being charged for two nights even though my checkin was 04152017 at 05:35 AM and checkout was 04162017 at 11:32 AM. The light above the microwave did not work & when I called Saturday afternoon-I was told they did not have any maintenance people who would be available to fix the light, although they offered to let me move to another room. There were stains on the window shades-from what I have no idea. There was something inside a ziplock bag in the freezer compartment of the mini-fridge that I don't know what it was. Breakfast sucked & made us not feel good, actually we vomited because it was so bad. We won't be stopping in this hotel in the future ever again & will recommend to others to never use this place. They'd be money ahead going to another hotel chain down the road. NEVER AGAIN!!!!! I received a letter from Vicki after my review of her hotel. She offered for me come back so they could make it better. When I asked her about refunding me the extra night they charged me for-she has not replied nor issued a refund. Telling me that she enjoys stealing money from people because her staff failed to give me notice I'd have to check out at 11:00 AM the day of check in to avoid being charged an additional day.
Very clean and easy check in, large rooms. Close to restaurants and breakfast was OK, fair choices but OK is about it. Our room slept 6 so that was great, pool was closed. Has a soft comfy bed. Price was good. Large bathroom. Quiet and decent best place to stay.
