For the most part, our stay at the Residence Inn — Madison East for two nights when attending a family event was precisely what I would expect from a mid-scale Marriott property. The room was well-equipped for much longer stays than ours and intelligently designed while containing nothing unconventional, novel, or of aggressive design. The property is kept up well. Service was polite, although it was unclear whether my advance check-in on my smartphone’s Marriott app expedited the process in any way once I arrived at the hotel. We were in the back of the hotel, away from the parking lot and highway, and our room was quiet with one exception: we repeatedly heard footsteps (although nothing more) from the room directly above us. In this manner, alas, the Residence Inn too closely resembled a real residence.
We stayed here for our family vacation. Rooms were clean and the people were wonderful. Rooms are older but since it was clean we were happy. On the days it was extremely hot they offered cold water and Gatorade, a nice thoughtful treat. My daughter's room had a closest the size of a room which we used.
While traveling with my daughter and her family, we needed a hotel that was pet friendly to accommodate their dog. I was skeptical of an extended stay hotel. Especially one that allows pets. But, I was pleasantly surprised. The suite was very large and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful.
We stayed here 1 night and selected the Residence Inn for its proximity to the highway and the fact that the Marriott website photos reflect that the hotel has been renovated. Unfortunately that was not the case. The place has not been updated for at least 30 years, is run- down, dirty and not well maintained. Half of the electric outlets in the room did not work. There are other better options in the immediate vicinity to choose from.
Not quite what I expect from Marriott. A bit run down in entry way. Elevator especially needs work: jerks and hitches during ride. Our room was in what seems to be an addition. Luggage carrier rolled smoothly right off elevator; floor nearer our room very uneven under carpet. That said, the corridor was nicely decorated, and our room was definitely Marriott class. Nice small pool. Couple treads, elliptical, some weights. Clean.
The hotel is on the far East side close to the highways. There are several chain restaurants near by like Texas Road House, Hooters, Cracker Barrel, Chipotle, Red Lobster and Perkins. The hotel was clean and the room was satisfactory. The room has a small living room and kitchen. We stayed last Saturday night and were in town for the CrazyLegs race held on campus. The hotel provides a free decent breakfast in the morning with bagels, make your own waffles, breakfast burrito station, fresh fruit, yogurt, oatmeal and biscuits & gravy. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. We had no problem with the hotel. However, there was a nearby shooting the night we stayed there. According to the news 30(!!?!?!?!) shots were fired across the street from the hotel. The hotel seemed to be in a nice area. We definitely were not alarmed driving to/from it and didn't see anything in the surrounding area to make us think we would not be safe. The shots happened around 2 AM Saturday night. Because of this we will choose a different place to stay upon returning to Madison.
Front desk personnel kind and helpful. Very nice room. I could live there if I had to. Really like the set up. TV in central location that could swivel so you could see it from the couch, kitchen, office desk, or the bedroom. Mirror and sink area outside of toilet/shower area making it easier for two people to take care of business at the same time. Ample closet space for luggage. Full kitchen was awesome as I have some dietary restrictions. Room was a little messy in some spots, but I’m not picky and bring cleaning wipes to every hotel. Breakfast was standard for this price hotel, they even had to go boxes so I could take it back up to my room. They also had some caffeinated hibiscus drink in the lobby, tasted good. Really great stay. Highly recommended.
Stayed here over a sporting weekend of Hockey and Basketball. The room was wonderful, it even had a small kitchenette, and the location was great for us. very quiet and away from campus. just the way we like it!
I made my reservation in August for the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. I chose and booked a 2BR King suite. Since this weekend, to be spent with our adult children, was also our family "Christmas" celebration, the full size living room with fireplace, in addition to the full kitchen and TWO bedrooms, had been our deciding factor in booking at the RI Madison East. I used the Marriott phone app to check in on Wednesday. I called early Thursday morning to reiterate my request for early check- in prior to leaving my home in IL. While en route, I was called and told I was being walked to a Studio dbl/dbl at a neighboring IHG property. Three weeks later, I am still waiting for this property to honor the Ultimate Reservation Guarantee Member Benefit in its entirety. As a Marriott Reward Platinum Premiere Elite I am guaranteed $100 compensation. I have yet to receive it. Since my family holiday plans were derailed and a comparable room was not available, I fully expected the hotel to go "above and beyond" the guaranteed benefit as a show of goodwill. However, this property has neglected to fulfill even the standard Marriott Benefit Guarantee. I have reached out to the other Members of the Marriott Insiders for guidance and their reactions were not nearly as polite nor understanding as mine. They and I had hoped that the Residence Inn Madison East would go "above and beyond" to make up for “the shoddy treatment on the holiday”. My fellow Insiders encouraged me to leave negative reviews for this property. I chose instead to give the RI time to make things right. Three weeks later, they still haven't bothered to fulfill the Marriot Ultimate Reservation Benefit Guarantee that I am entitled to as a Platinum Premiere Elite. Apparently, their idea of Customer Service and mine is vastly different. This experience would not be nearly as disconcerting if only Marriott put forth timely effort in fixing the issue. I realize that mistakes happen, but how mistakes are handled is where character or lack there of, becomes obvious. Marriott is not currently, for me, shining brightly. As a result, further stays at this property have been cancelled. The 18 days I needed to book by year end will not be booked with Marriott. The 21 days I needed in early 2019 have been booked with other Hotel Brands.
I stayed at the Residence Inn for approximately 2 months for business. I found the property to be very clean. The staff were very pleasant and courteous. My room was always clean and it was a very comfortable space. I would personally like to thank “Melisa” (Front Desk Manager) for her courtesy and professionalism! She always greeted me and asked how my stay was going. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Madison, WI area.
