I loved the decor! However, the mattress was old and not comfortable. New mattresses are definitely needed!!! When we arrived the staff was just finishing up our room and she allowed us to check in which was very nice. The breakfast was delicious. We felt safe. The only thing I didn’t like was the fact that it’s an old rail workers hotel and the train was very loud.
Great place at good price. Great rooms and nice breaky. Lot nicer than it looks from outside and web pics. Great location.
Excellent service, parking included, and the bar on the first floor is just lovely with live music and great courtyard.
I love this historic hotel. Everything about it harkened back to a bygone era.
Awesome value great rooms and bed and shower i would come back any time and will
Good location, nicely updated boutique hotel. Still has some quirks like the baseboard heaters that click and emanate dripping sounds, wooden floors that creak when you or someone in the hall walks over them, etc. But the room was clean, the temperature was easily adjusted nicely, I got a good night’s sleep, free parking, and a continental breakfast on my way out. Keep an open mind and you will have a good stay.
I love the distinctiveness of the Ruby Marie! and I find it very comfortable, my only caveat is that people who are sensitive to noise may have issues. The heating system gurgles and rattles most of the time, although this really didn't bother me, I found it quite pleasant white noise. You also get the music from the bar underneath, at least in certain rooms. Again, it was pleasant acoustic guitar and really didn't bother me but might be an issue for some.
Super charming hotel with great staff. Two complimentary drink tickets for the bar downstairs were included as well as breakfast in a very quaint adorable cafe. I would stay again for sure.
A delightful surprise. The rooms were clean and not too small. The Up North Bar right downstairs was a huge plus and a breakfast coupon for both of us was even better the next morning. Easy walk to the Capital square or along the waterfront.
I love the Ruby Marie! It is in a great location near Lake Monona (some rooms have a lake view) near the bike trail. You get a complimentary happy hour drink at the Up North bar and breakfast at the cafe (or the Come Back Inn on weekends). The rooms are a quaint through back to the 1800s but are modern and comfortable with tons of charm. It is always the first place I look when I need a room in Madison. You used to have to book directly with the hotel, but now that it is available online it is even more convenient. Watch for off season specials. A great place for a quick get away! Absolutely a 5 star experience, but don't confuse that with the sterile experience of a "5 star hotel". Awesome B&B!
