This was our second stay at Ruby Marie!! A little off the beaten path yet close to capital and lake Monona. Not your typical chain Hotel. Love the old world Victorian charm. Super clean and staff wonderful!! Will definitely stay again!!!!

Interesting historic property. Housekeeping was good but property maintence is way behind. Worn out carpet, linens, etc. Dingy. Could see light from around the exterior door in our room to the outside.The breakfast area tile flooring is crumbling, carpeted areas dirty and many years beyond its useful life. Needs a good cleaning too. The breakfast was unappetizing. Weak coffee, bacon reheated, blah scrambled eggs, potatoes swimming in oil. Sadly, it could be such an awesome spot with a sunny view of lake Menona The attached bar also badly needs work. Wood floors have no finish left on them. So worn out and frayed. The whole place desperately needs a rehab investment. Staff was lovely and kind. I suppose some would find it charming and overlook the inadequacies. It was relatively inexpensive but I don't think we'd stay again.

A truly unique place to stay. A bit of a time capsule from another era, in a great way. We arrived later in the evening, so we checked in with the barkeep downstairs. Received free drink tickets and free breakfast vouchers for the Come Back In next door. Being just a couple blocks from the Capitol, a lake view from our room, makes this a prime location for a visit to Madison. Way better than a generic cookie cutter room at the corporate options.

We arrived late and because the hotel shares parking with 3 bars it took some effort to find parking. We had to check in at the bar (they let us know ahead of time). The hotel is fairly old and gorgeous. Our room had a little balcony overlooking a courtyard. We could hear all the bar noises but it wasn't bothersome at all. Everything about the room was nice. The only negative was the bathroom door didn't want to latch. They gave us a voucher for breakfast at one of the bars 2 doors down and it was excellent. The bar we checked in at also gave us drink vouchers.
