Upsides Clean comfortable comfy bed, clean and quiet and warm apartment, great location with nearby Lancaster Gate tube station, some convenience stores, and a great pub and Italian ristorante nearby (The Mitre and Taormina respectively) all within a five-minute walk. See separate reviews. Nice frontage but the website photos are misleading. My fiance and I had a studio apartment in the basement (Room 1A) so I wasn't expecting anything huge. For the money I paid for a Valentine's Night romantic getaway in central London, the price in combination with the location were unbeatable. FOH staff were friendly and reception is open from early morning till about 10.30pm/ The downsides Doesn't quite look like the publicity photographs when you experience it. Spartan equipment. Just about no cutlery (a bottle opener for instance, and I think there was only one knife - not that we cooked), the bedroom lights didn't have a dimmer and six overhead 50W halogens are bright. Being floodlit is not particularly conducive to a romantic Valentine's Night break. The room could could have done with table lamp. Fridge was so cold that my glass bottle of fizzy drink exploded. A bottle of wine likewise. Shower ran out of hot water after two minutes. Apparently, it's an electric boiler shared with another apartment. Other reviewers have noted similar experiences. Judging by the number of young people we saw - ma large group of German price makes it a kind-of Central London hostel destination.
I stayed for the weekend with some friends. I accidentally left a couple of items of clothes as I had swapped rooms with a friend, but when I rang after two days, they said they would check and ring me back. They didn’t. Same thing a week later. The reason who made the booking rang, but they claim housekeeping didn’t find anything. I know this is not the case. I offered to pay the postage etc, but they obviously couldn’t be bothered.
I stayed here with a friend and our children as it is only a 20min walk to Winter Wonderland and we were taking the kids for a surprise weekend there just before christmas. The first night was okay though the beds were lumpy and uncomfortable. However it was the next morning when disaster struck as there was no hot water for any of us to shower from 9.30am! My friends little girl already put shampoo in her hair before realising the shower wasnt even warming up so she ran out screaming. Then, for over 2 hours we were up and down to reception asking when the hot water would come back on. My friends little girl was freezing as was waiting around in a towel as the staff kept telling us "15 minutes" EVERY time we went upstairs. This was supposed to be our main day in london and we had planned to do alot but by 11.15am we realised if we were to wait any longer then we would have no time to do anything at all. We boiled a kettle and washed my friends daughters hair and my friend paid to go to a local gym and use their washing facilities as the reception staff would not offer an alternative wash room. It completely ruined our weekend as we wasted half of our main day and what makes things worse is that the 2 guys on reception seemed to think it was funny!! I have since emailed Hyde Park Apartments for an explanation and have also logged a complaint with Booking.com, however i dont expect to hear of a resolution to my grievance as they are both as useless as each other. All i can say is that its conveniently situated but be prepared with wet wipes and to deal with the worst customer service ever!!
I booked these apartments in December for a late January one night stay through booking.com. I had a message saying the card was declined and I should re-enter my details which I did. The next day I got another message saying the card was declined again and that my booking was cancelled. I went onto booking.com and there were no more rooms left so I rang the property direct. They had a policy that they had to cancel my room rather than ask me for a different credit card and if I wanted to book with them I had to book at a higher price. This is unfair as they have left it so late to check to see if the card payment was valid and had they checked immediately there would still be rooms left and at the promotional booking.com rate. The woman on the phone was less than helpful saying she couldn’t do anything about it despite my claims that it’s not fair and it will have been their mistake. After the phone call with me telling them I’ll look for somewhere else I called my bank. They saw the attempted transaction and said that the three digits on the back of the card they attempted to enter did not match the actual card so it was her fault all along and I was being punished and forced to pay a higher rate for their incompetence! Reading these reviews it seems I’ve dodged a bullet anyway!
Good location less then 10mins walk from Paddington. Rooms are adequate, would stay again, staff helpful and friendly. Good pubs in local area very close to Hyde Park and Oxford Street. Also close to Notting Hill.
It was nothing like we thought. It was a 30 min. walk from station, not 5 min., as they said in the booking, same goes for Oxford Street, it toke arround 1 hour to walk there, not 20 min. as they said on booking. We had room number 9 on 2 floor, and there was no lift. The room smelled like urin, there where a draft from the big window and the door. The heater couldent heat up the room. The toilet was so small, that only 1 person could stand out there and the wc was up against the wall, so you had to sit sideways to use it. The shower had some kind of fungus. There was no oven (it said oven on booking), the fidge was hard to open and same goes for the freezer, and only 3 of each Things (also coffee/tea). We where supposed to be 3 people, but one got sick and stayed home, witch where kinda lucky, cause the sleeping sofa was to short for my 15 year old daugther. The bed was hard like a brick and you could feel the wires. The stairs outside made a noise, so we dident get much sleep, cause people where walking up and Down. You could hear everything and the people above us, made alot of noise.
Lovely friendly staff. Spotless rooms with everything you need. Close to Paddington Station, plenty of shops, pubs, cafes & restaurants to choose from. Will most definitely choose to stay here again. Clean towels and toiletries supplied. Microwave, cooker, full sized fridge plus dishes and cutlery, anything and everything you need for a London break. I don't think I'll bother with a hotel for any further London visits. Highly recommended.
Location was perfect for what we were looking for, walking distance to Paddington station and Hyde Park. Great public transport links. Rooms are clean. We had a 2-bedroom apartment that was plenty big. No "living room" as such but a TV in both bedrooms and in the kitchen. Supplies in the room were great - kitchen, tea, coffee, shower gel, etc and reception staff was super friendly and helpful. Good WIFI, for the most part. The only issue - and this is a UK thing rather than this hotel thing - no double-glazing so was quite loud in the late evening, early morning (also because it was a weekend and also Bonfire Nights). Bring ear plugs :D Noise comment also goes for people on floors above. You can really hear everything, including the cleaning ladies in the morning. Just something to bear in mind. Also UK - they have curtains and not shutters so ear plugs and eye masks if you're a light sleeper and then you have nothing to worry about :D We'd come back! Thanks!
We had room 11a, yes theres no lift but its only a few flights of stairs Our room was small but was perfect for our one night, comfortable bed, great that there is a small kitchen,tv, iron and board Small bathroom but had everything that you needed Fantastic safe location and only minutes to hyde park and oxford street I cant understand the negative comments, it was very clean, and to be honest your only in the room to sleep We would definitely stay here again and at £65 for the night no complaints at all
This would be one of the worst places I have stayed in. Advertised as an apartment, it is a room that is so small that the double bed is pushed against the wall, how does the person in the wall side of the bed get out ? We asked that we DID NOT have a bed against a wall when making the booking, this was "overlooked". Had a fridge that made noise 24 hours a day, sink plug did work, lights that didn't work, tap on shower fell off so shower would not work, no lift, and the stairs were so steep, you felt like you were climbing a mountain to get to top floor. I sent an email to the management while I was 4 days in to a 10 day stay, I am still waiting for a reply. One of the biggest problems was that my door key card was only activated for 2 days, I was fortunate that I came back to the "apartment" mid afternoon on the 2nd day to find key card would not open front door, if I had have come back after 10.40 at night I would have been locked out for the night. Too many problems to recommend to anyone, management don't care, as they have your money. Hopefully people take notice of the bad reviews and don't book, and the Hyde Park Apartments close for good.
