Harris Ranch Inn

Nice hotel

Large comfortable room down a long hallway far away from the elevator. The smell of cow manure was strong for a couple of hours in the evening.

Best Western Kettleman City Inn & Suites

Pluses and minuses

I'm used to paying $75-$80 for a clean decent motel room with a pool on I-5, so I expected more from this place which I booked for about $125. Pluses: Breakfast, which was extensive, probably a $15 value if you were to buy it at Denny's; Sound: very little highway noise due to a hill between 5 and the motel; Room was clean and very comfortable. Staff was friendly and efficient. Minuses: pool is so tiny only the most eager children would use it on a hot day, and then their parents would have to be extra vigilant due to the construction debris surrounding it (In fairness, when I visited it was mid-May, so maybe they keep it nicer in summer); Door between rooms allowed me to hear clearly my neighbor's conversations--good for a novelist who likes to eavesdrop but not so good for privacy, especially of the romantic type.

Kings Inn Motel

Extremely Basic Hotel, Great Staff

If you are on a tight budget -- or there is nothing else around cause of World Ag Expo -- this is just fine. However -- light sleepers beware -- it is right next to Hwy 99 AND the train tracks, so it gets noisy. That said, I had a good night stay, I like the sound of freight trains, and the staff are very friendly and accommodating.
