Unsafe, Poorly Managed, and Disappointing for the Price
I stayed at the South Thompson Inn and Conference Centre while travelling for work and had a very upsetting experience. One evening, before 8 p.m., I returned to find the main door locked. No one had told me I needed a code to get back in, and the code was printed in tiny text on the corner of the envelope that held my room key — something easy to miss.
I was left outside alone in the dark and cold with no car, repeatedly calling every number provided. I called the emergency line around 15 times, plus the manager, property manager, housekeeping, and even the chef. No one answered. I left multiple messages. I was scared and completely unsupported, in the cold and dark. Eventually, someone called me later that night to see if I got inside.
Management only refunded half a night and didn't even check in with me the next day — which doesn’t come close to compensating for the stress or safety concern. For the price point and isolation of the location, this is unacceptable.
Other issues included:
No real breakfast (just a granola bar or fruit cup) despite being far from any stores or restaurants.
No feminine hygiene products available in the public washrooms.
Outdated rooms with shared balconies that lack privacy.
If I hadn’t had a coworker there to help, I would have been stranded. I truly hope management takes this feedback seriously and improves their communication, emergency procedures, and guest safety protocols.
