Visiting an old friend for a few days and wanted to be as close to "town center" as possible; this was definitely the place to be! If you appreciate antiques and value the past, you will love this Inn. The rooms were spacious, the beds comfortable. The ambience of yesteryear exudes from the dark wood moldings and the wide staircase, comfortable and tastefully decorated.... just gorgeous! **Note; If you like shiny and new, this is NOT your place. The staff was welcoming and friendly. Sorry, I didn't have time for dinner or drinks, but many guests, apparently, did. Next time!
This is an old hotel. The room and bed were comfortable. The bathroom has been updated. The hallways had an odd smell. The food at breakfast was very good. Better than the actual hotel. I would prefer a more modern facility.
Nice historic inn, but I was expecting a little more atmosphere is history which was behind the inn. Staff was nice and friendly. The rooms were dusty, tile in the bathroom was cracked and moldy. When I return to Exeter I will choose another Inn, Sorry
My husband and I stayed one night with our 1-year-old. The room was very nice and spacious, despite being such an old property. There were plenty of modern amenities, without a loss of the quaint historic charm . When were there, there was a live musician playing out on the back patio and we had dinner outside. The food was good--a little on the pricy side for the quality, but not ridiculous. They also had a pack n play available for my daughter, free of charge. All in all, it was lovely, though there is not much to do in Exeter itself.
Came here in May for an anniversary trip with my husband. The whole town was beautiful and the inn was charming. Ate at the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner, both were delicious. This was our first trip to a historic inn and found the quirks to give it some character, but thought people should be aware. The rooms are smaller than an average hotel room. Also, we found that the water in the shower got very hot intermittently (maybe from other guests flushing their toilets. Would definitely come back!
I had booked this Inn for 2 nights over Memorial Day Weekend as they had an amazing deal! Lobby and bar area are quaint and stylish. Room was clean, modern, updated, and comfortable. Beautiful Mahogany doors are throughout. Beds were very comfy! Oh I was given a robe and slippers!! Each night we had cookies left for us-great touch! I called ahead earlier in the week and confirmed we wanted a Queen bed. Upon arrival the manager had upgraded our Room size which was spacious and viewed the front street! This came in extra handy as we saw the Memorial Day Parade from our window. Although we didn't eat here as we were traveling to and from Portsmouth. The ride was 15-20 mins and I'm so glad we stayed outside the city in beautiful Exeter which was quiet, friendly and a great NE town!! The staff was great accommodating storage for our bikes in a locked conference room on the first floor. We biked around Exeter and to breakfast each morning (highly recommend) to the Trackside Cafe which the locales all know of and a line forms inside the General Store with the cafe out back. Overall we had a fabulous stay at the Inn!😀
My wife and I wanted a hotel between portsmouth and Hampton for leisure and romance. We could not have picked a better place. Nice staff, comfortable room, and the restaurant made great food at a good price. We are planning to stay there again in the future.
We stumbled on this historic hotel looking for a place to overnight on the way to Maine. Built in the 1930s, it still retains the ambiance. Grand old dining room and gardens, cozy bar and very good food. Room was a little worn but comfortable. Shades of old New England and a pleasant change from chain hotels.
The Exeter Inn is like stepping back in time. Although the building is older, it's been completely modernized with all of today's amenities. The rooms on the upper floor are very nice, but those on the outer perimeter follow the roof line. The reason this is important is because the angled roof, really reduces the headroom in the shower based on the layout. I am 6' tall and could not stand upright in the shower because it was too tight. This wouldn't be an issue for a shorter person, but for those of us who are taller, be sure to ask about the shower if your room is on the top floor. While this isn't a deal-breaker, just a bit inconvenient. Staff was very nice, food is wonderful and the rooms are well appointed with nice chocolates/water that are complimentary.
We needed to stay in the area due to an early morning soccer game and stumbled on the Exeter Inn. Booked a room via a travel site without too much expectations. Since it was just my son and I, I asked for an extra bed to be put in the room when we checked in. The receptionist was very helpful and though she wasn't able to accommodate an extra bed in the room (due to the size of the rooms), she upgraded me to a two bed room for free. The increase in fare wasn't large (~$20) and I would have been happy to pay it but she simply upgraded me. Everyone at the Inn was just as polite and inviting from the bar servers, to the waiters and cleaning staff. The restaurant was also amazing with great food and a very warm atmosphere. Thoroughly recommend staying here if you need to be in the area.
