TownePlace Suites by Marriott Detroit Novi3.0 out of 5.0

This property is older than many of the other TownePlace Suites we have stayed in. Aside from it being older, it was clean and the service was excellent. Every employee we came into contact with was fabulous. I really wish I had taken more care to write names down so I could give specific names of all of them. They were really all fabulous. They always had a smile and very helpful.
Property is clean and located within a short walking distance near a shopping complex with choice of multiple restaurants. Though the pricing was inclusive of the breakfast, the breakfast choice was extremely limited (no better than that offered by a small motel/inn). The service was quite friendly and prompt. Overall a decent place to stay at in Novi
Place seemed nice and clean. The two room suite was nicely furnished. The refrigerator had a bit of a rattle when it ran but nothing to complain about. Overall we were pleased. Until 3AM! My wife and I woke to what we can only describe as the sound of a a commercial ice machine. Loud enough to wake us up and constantly running. The night clerk came to the room. Wondered with us what the sound was and said she would check for the source. An hour later at 4AM we checked-out with the sound still loud as ever. Never heard back from the clerk. I informed the clerk we were checking out and I was not intending to pay for the room. She did reverse charges. No follow-up by the hotel or Marriott. It's as if it never happened.
My family stayed here during the AAU Junior Olympics. Although this hotel was located a distance from Ypsilanti, it offered two room suites. When we arrived, I had to call housekeeping to request that they send someone to clean the bathroom because there were urine stains on the toilet seat. In addition, I asked them to change the mattress on the sofa bed because it had a blood stain. Suffice it to say, I was not happy about any of these situations and I complained to the front desk. The woman I spoke to (Stephanie) was very pleasant and apologized for these transgressions. However, my thoughts about this location couldn't be redeemed. I would not stay here ever again. To address my concerns she sent someone to clean the bathroom and change out the mattress and gave us extra rewards points for the stay.
No complaints at all. Room and hotel were clean. As advertised. Breakfast was really good as hotel breakfasts go. Breakfast area was well attended to and stocked. Room was big. We had a 2 bedroom and it was great. Outdoor pool looked clean. Would stay again if in the area. Really close to great restaurants and just across interstate from the mall and shopping areas.
I booked this hotel because of a very good experience at a property in another state. However, I was thoroughly disappointed. The property was seriously outdated and did not give you a feeling of comfort upon arrival. Given we checked in about 8:30 PM, my family and I were going to make do until we encountered empty beer bottles in the kitchenette trashcan. The front desk was willing to move us to another room but we were so tired that we agreed to stay and put the wastebasket in the hall. Then we turned on the sink in the kitchenette and water began pooling all over the countertop from the bottom of the sink fixture. Though the front desk was willing to move us across the hall, they accommodated my request to cancel the room with no penalty instead. Thankfully we went could get into the Courtyard (much nicer!!!) across the parking lot without any issue or delay.
The room is very clean. They are like mini apartments. The staff wonderful and helpful. Finding the place was difficult. Had to call three times to get there. NO ROAD SIGN at the corner we had to turn on. Drove past it 4 times. The breakfast was sad. Eggs were dried out, most of the food was cold, no taste.
I had many family members in from all over the country and it seemed to be the best place for all of us to be able to meet. The breakfasts left much to be desired, but it was comfortable enough for the price.
My husband and I lived in this hotel for 3 weeks, along with a toddler and a 50 lb dog, while we had repairs performed in our home. The staff was welcoming, friendly, helpful and kind. They were truly wonderful. The daily free hot breakfast was outstanding - it was replenished often and had a great selecting. We stayed in a two bedroom suite. The rooms were relatively small and badly in need of an update. Furniture was worn, the fridge leaked water and there was a significant pill bug (rolly polly) bug problem. We probably killed about 5 per day. It was an accommodating space for a dog with a nice walking path surrounding the hotel and a pretty pond in the back of the property to separate it the hotel from a large office building. While the interior requires some TLC, the staff does there best to offer a pleasant experience for guests.
Stayed here over the Labor Day weekend 2016. This is a clean hotel that offers close access to lots of shops and restaurants. The staff was friendly and I really have no significant complaints. It also was quiet and not as dank feeling as the TownePlace Suites Livonia, MI, which is where I normally book reservations. However, there were a couple of issues. None of these things I reported to the staff. I just didn't want to be bothered. Anyway, The drain in the bathroom was slow, so we didn't allow the water to run for any length of time. The refrigerator clicked all night which would drive light sleepers crazy, but I managed to sleep through it. It will drive you crazy while you're awake though. Compared to the Livonia location, the HD feeds and channel selections for this location were horrible. A lot of the channels were out and only the local channels were in HD. Please search around 83.1 or so for HD. Finally, the elevator was a little unnerving so we mostly took the stairs to our third floor suite. If you get a room facing the pond, it's a nice touch. Would've given it five stars if not for the issues.
