You do not need to search for long if you want to find relaxing places to take your pet when you are in Boise, Idaho. The city has ample outdoor options, both in its center and a short drive away.

Pet-friendly things to do in Boise (ID)

The Boise Foothills are a pet paradise. They are where you can find the Ridge to Rivers Trail System with more than 190 miles of both on-leash and controlled off-leash trails. While hiking the trails, the lower-located city forms a picture-perfect backdrop. You will want to stop more than once to take in the view.

Inside the city center, there are five off-leash dog parks and 10 off-leash multi-purpose areas. So even though the city enforces an otherwise on-leash policy, there are plenty of opportunities to let your pet roam freely. The Esther Simplot Park has fishing ponds, trails and playgrounds. There is a designated off-leash dog area, but in wintertime, most of the rest of the park opens up to off-leash pet walking as well.

Other off-leash dog parks can be found at the Military Reserve, Morris Hill Park, Pine Grove Park, and the Sterling Park Site. The Lucky Peak State Park is only a 10-minute drive from Downtown Boise and welcomes leashed pets at its Discovery Park and Spring Shores Marina, but not at Sandy Point Beach.

For a more urban activity, head to the Freak Alley Gallery Downtown. While the indoor gallery may be off-limits, you and your pet can freely enjoy the murals between 8th and 9th Streets and Bannock and Idaho Streets. These works of art are changed annually at the beginning of August. You can also opt to visit the Boise Towne Square Mall for a while.
