Fly from Rochester to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood

Rochester may offer convenient access to Lake Ontario, but a flight to Fort Lauderdale gets you to tropical water in Florida. In addition to having resorts along the Atlantic Ocean, Fort Lauderdale is a cultural hub with entertainment venues including the Parker Playhouse and Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Interstate I-90, a major highway in upstate New York, leads directly to Rochester International Airport (RST). A flight from RST to Fort Lauderdale should take approximately six hours.

Lodging in Lauderdale Beach is a great option if you prefer a private suite with ocean views and convenient access to shops at The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale. Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Dania Beach and Golden Beach also have plenty of beachfront hotels. After swimming in turquoise ocean water, there are lots of choices in cruising Fort Lauderdale's waterways. Gondola tours are available on the city's network of man-made canals, and there are an abundance of yachts docked on the Stranahan River and Tarpon River. You could even head as far as the Caribbean Sea by boarding a cruise liner at Port Everglades.

Hints and tips

Before you fly from Rochester to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, pack enough sunscreen because south Florida's tropical climate brings daily sunshine and temperatures over 70 degrees. To make your way out of Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (FLL), rent a car and merge onto I-95. In early spring, consider attending the Fort Lauderdale International Auto Show to get ideas for a future car purchase.
