Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. We paid for a deluxe king room which was tiny. There was no water to drink, the window didn’t close fully meaning the room was cold. The windows were like paper so you could hear everything going on outside (and we were 6 floors up) we both had to sleep with pillows over our heads for some peace and quiet. The bathroom door didn’t close so we had to use a bag to keep the door closed when using the toilet. We had to take the stairs every time we left or got back to the hotel as the lift was too old and rickety to use and you only get one key which is inconvenient. The ironing board was broken, the WiFi was intermittent and the general feel of the hotel was uncomfortable. On the positive side it was clean enough and the staff were friendly.
Very good located, next to China town. The hotel was OK but not how showed in booking. An old hotel which is being restructurated. The room was very cold and noisy due to old windows. Tasty breakfast but not practicle to bring to the room as no tray.
Very rude front desk and they even charged after sending me away without giving me a room. Anything but helpful. Never stay here! It's a trap! They told me they had a room and lied. I feel ripped off.
The SF Plaza is very conveniently located a couple of doors down from Dragons Gate which leads into Chinatown. Great location for exploring that area. Not far from Union Square and about 15 minutes to the Wharf. Taxi to the Wharf is $10. Restaurants galore in the area and a Starbucks right across the street. Our room was very small-and the bathroom was very tiny. No coffee maker, no fridge but a comfortable king size bed. The walls are paper thin as we heard everything our neighbor was communicating via phone. Plus lots of city noises. A continental breakfast is served and consists of cold items and coffee. Fruit, bagels, cereal, yogurt, crackers. The hotel,is older but very clean. Does need some rehabbing. If you are looking for a place to lay your head for an evening, this is the place.
Excellent front of house Cris and the owner Nancy. Excellent location right by the dragon gate in Bush and Grant Ave. You only get 1 key which is very inconvenient when you have 2 people coming in and out of the hotel at different times! The whole is really old which needs a lot of refurbishment. There’s no Aircon or fan, so it can get extremely hot during hot days! Toilet door has no locks and doesn’t close properly, so you could be taking a shower the can creep open by itself. Very small room, no kettle, fridge or electric sockets. You have to unplug the table lamps to use the sockets.😞 Toiletries is a joke, the gave us 1 mini bar of soap for the 4 of us to use!! Nothing else! Even bath towel they only gave us 3. Had to go back down to reception to request for an extra towel. Breakfast hours are a joke, 8am-9.30am. Very limited bland breakfast options. Many guests came into the room and walked back out! There’s tea, coffee and orange juice. Cereals, bagels, bread, muffins, processed cheese slice and wafer thin ham. There’s some pot noodles, cereal bars apple and bananas. Hallway really stinks of damp and urine! It’s such a shame though, I really liked the location and the staff.
The SF Plaza Hotel attended all our necessities, in a charming antique building. Special thank you to Nancy and Cris, who were very welcoming. Clean, comfortable, good breakfast that kept us going throughout the early hours. Great location, we went around very easily from there! Would come back without question! If in SF, we will go back and stay there. And this is an honest review!
I booked this hotel based on the reviews I read. No-frills is definitely how I would describe this place. First the positives: location, cleanliness, and nice hotel staff. Now the negatives: only 12 analog channels on the TV, uncomfortable bed (I had to buy a mattress topper to help with the comfort), no ice machine, no air-conditioning, and breakfast starts at 8 AM. Maybe the room that I was in, room 710, was not updated with the new comfortable bed like all the other reviews say. Plus what hotel now a days does not have an ice machine? And the continental breakfast is a nice touch but it starts at 8 AM and when you’re here on a business trip you typically have to be out of the hotel by 7 AM so it’s pointless. The TV channels are also disappointing, I’m watching antenna TV with only 13 channels. For an average of $200/night it is definitely not worth staying at this hotel. I guess what you’re paying for here is strictly location.
Looks like this place was bought and upgraded. I stayed here a couple years ago for $55/night w a private bathroom. Rooms were old and small but clean with a nice window (that opens for fresh air) and a decent view. Those were the days.
A very large room, with vintage forniture. Very good reception service. Central place (next to Dragon gate). The only bad aspect has been the too small breakfast room, even though the breakfast was reach and various.
We had booked with a couple weeks time before our trip, I had a marathon to run and needed an overnight stay,we get there and they overbooked the hotel along with my room. They made an accommodation with a suite which was higher in price for less than $10 more, I guess if you check in later in the day you may be out of luck, check in early here. The suite room is very nice and spacious, clean throughout. Check out was 12 midday which was perfect since I was coming back late in The morning, you get complimentary bfast cards as part of the stay which was nice. Public Parking garage was across the street and somewhat expensive but at least convenient. This was my second stay here in three years and was pretty much the same experience both times. Overall pleased with the stay and would recommend for a low budget stay in downtown SF.
