Just don't book it. It's nothing like in the pictures. The rooms look like Hitchcock would film a horror movie in there. Third world living conditions. Next to a homeless shelter and big warning sign saying they use canceriginous chemicals there (must make people aware as California law states it)

When I saw this hotel on line it look to be charming, and the rates were good. Upon our arrival we encountered several homeless people in front and across the street from the hotel. They slept there overnight, so they were not going away. The beds were very springy, meaning that you could feel the springs while you were sleeping. We had gone downstairs in the morining to grab some coffee and we saw two mice run across the floor. The floors in the room were extremely dirty, I kept my shoes on as I didn't want to walk in my bare feet. The only redeeming factor was that the staff were nice and check in and out was fairly simple. There were also restaurants close by. Not a place I would stay again. Its worth paying the few extra bucks to stay somewhere you know your going to get a good night sleep.

The pictures provided online are falsely advertised. Hotel is old and out dated, in need of serious remodel. Outside surroundings make you fearful of your safety at night, and just not at all what is advertised.

Dirty carpets, no security, cheap hotel, people smoking crank on the corner and shooting drugs, homeless shelter across the street, people shouting all night. And on and on.

We could just barely pick up the wifi in our room, and it was so weak we had to turn it off to actually load anything. They don't have a business center or even one computer in the lobby for guests to use instead. The other big issue was the attitude and responsiveness of the staff. When we reported problems to the front desk, we were brushed off in a way that made it clear they didn't care at all.

This hotel was cheap. And that's about all it's got going for it. It's located on the bad side of town, the building is extremely old, and there are literally no amenities. The bed was clean so it was acceptable. Not somewhere I'd ever stay again.

The staff was polite and the hotel was clean, it was just very very old. Definitely due for a renovation. The worst part was the neighborhood. It is on one edge of Tenderloin, so there were homeless people, filth and open drug use on the streets.

Spacious rooms and the staff was very friendly and helpful but the rooms were not clean. The carpets were dusty.

Friendly staff. The room was clean, but needed detailing and a refresh. The toilet didn't flush properly. I didn't feel comfortable taking a bath in the tub. The closet stunk.

small rooms , no mirror in room only bathroom. Pictures can be deceiving!

Cleaning staff never left proper towels, washcloths, etc. had to go to front desk to get each day. Not enough staff for check in / out. Sketchy neighborhood. But for a cheap place to stay... It works.

No wifi in the room, car park is too expensive. Many homeless people around.

Hotel is fair, we just had not researched the TENDERLOIN district. As we found out, there's an overwhelming amount of homeless folks directly across the street and all over the Tenderloin area. They appear to be drinking and who knows what else. Not judging anything or anyone, just stating a fact.

I would not recommend this place. For the amount of money you pay it was a disappointing place to stay at. When you first walk in you are hit with this order. The place smelled like a dirty diaper. The elevator is old and slow. The walls are thin so you hear everything. However for the room rate that I paid, its one of the better priced places where you get your own bathroom.

Hotel is nice but bathroom is small. Not fancy but clean and comfortable. Neighborhood is on the edge of nice areas and somewhat questionable sections. Basically every type of food is available within a few blocks of the hotel. Solid option depending on price of other places and what area you would prefer to stay in.

The Monarch Hotel has old world charm! The hotel is well maintained, charming, and very clean. The neighborhood isn't the best, but we didn't have any issues. One Uber driver we encountered told us not to walk in the neighborhood after dark. Again, we didn't have any issues. The hotel itself is fun, quaint, and comfy. The staff was professional and courteous.

Hotel is decent and clean. Staff very good. Hotel is close to everything by bus. I felt safe inside the hotel. The problem is the neighborhood. It is the Tenderloin. Big homeless camps of people laying on the sidewalk at all hours, day and night. Street begging, peddling, trash, garbage, defecation, and that smell. Disable people both disfigured and living in their own filth all around the hotel. Also witness and heard Gangster problems, including a lot of bad temper behavior, screaming, fighting, and one execution at 100 feet from hotel entrance. (yes, half naked, on his knees, hands tied behind his back, receiving pronouncement of judgment and punishment.) You can stay at this hotel IF you are a single male, mature, have your guard up, vigilant at all times, can push people aside gently when blocked, say nothing to bystanders, deal with bad temper homeless, and truly understand life on the streets involving sickness, filth, vulgarity and death. All on display for you at this location.

I called all morning to check on my reservation and no one answered the phone when we arrived at the hotel when we arrived there where people sitting outside doing drugs. there is no parking available, the room smelled like urine, there was dry blood on the sheets, and the headboard was broken . There were only 2 sockets in the room with a power strip connected to it and no sockets in the bathroom. The room was way too small for it to have double beds .after 5 minutes We decided not stay and when we tried to cancel and leave the manager told us we still had to pay the full price which was $168.00 and they also took a deposit of $50.00. IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE AND YOUR MONEY ABSOLUTLY DO NOT STAY AT THE MONARCH IN SAN FRANSISCO

The location was really suitable for a sight-seeing trip. Staff was very helpful.

Only complaint is that it smelled really musty. Mainly in the lobby though. It's an older building. Location was good, good value. Ample parking nearby. Room was tiny. If you just want a clean place to sleep for a fair price, it's perfect.
