I understand that San Francisco is an expensive market but why is Orbitz sending people for over $400 a night to flop houses? This hotel has not had new carpeting or painting for 30 years. The furniture is decrepit, the sheets had holes and the mattress was also old. If it had not been so hard to find a place to begin with I would have left immediately.

Hotel staff was very nice and accommodating. Management even allowed us to hold our bags until our flight arrived.

My biggest issues are there is no parking lot. The closest one is around the corner and it’s $30 day. There’s homeless people hanging outside the hotel constantly. There’s no where to eat within blocks. Rooms are kinda small

Older Hotel, Great Experience. Built in 1927-29 when San Francisco was still a warehouse districts, train stations and a major destination port. Visit for the lobby and conference center.

We got a free upgrade! Hotel was conveniently located close to all the major tourist places!

Comfortable beds, very nice staff, central location and good rates. Nowhere in SF where you won't see LOTS of homeless, so can't knock them for the many homeless on their street. I suggested they add handicap handles as their deep tubs are great for baths, but dangerous to get in and out of for showers. They told me they were working on upgrades and would consider my suggestion, so they are definitely listening. The only other issue was the bed frames needed adjusted, I mentioned that to them too.

We stayed for 6 nights and all was really good...bathroom could have been a bit bigger, with less room in closet

Was ok for the weekend, but, too far away from most attractions, and right in the middle of the tenderloin district.Rough neighborhood and not your family type hotel..... Could smell hemp in the hotel all the time, and had to avoid the homeless sleeping in tents right across the street.

The lobby is pleasing and the room itself was big and well-maintained. I had a king bed which was firm, but comfortable. I was happy that Monarch was a pet-friendly hotel and they gave me a room on the first level so I could easily take my dog out for a walk. Although, be forewarned, there is no grassy area whatsoever for pups to do their business. That being said, the location is a big drawback. Not so safe at night, and hundreds of homeless sleeping on the street. There is no hotel parking - the closest garage was at the AMC theaters around the corner, which charged $32 overnight.

They let me check in seven hours early and were very kind at the desk, and they even upgraded me to a king bed. The room was what to expect for what I paid but it worked for the night.

The hotel was nice but the area was not a nice area, you SSW a lot of people sleeping in the streets and fighting everywhere .

Just don't book it. It's nothing like in the pictures. The rooms look like Hitchcock would film a horror movie in there. Third world living conditions. Next to a homeless shelter and big warning sign saying they use canceriginous chemicals there (must make people aware as California law states it)

When I saw this hotel on line it look to be charming, and the rates were good. Upon our arrival we encountered several homeless people in front and across the street from the hotel. They slept there overnight, so they were not going away. The beds were very springy, meaning that you could feel the springs while you were sleeping. We had gone downstairs in the morining to grab some coffee and we saw two mice run across the floor. The floors in the room were extremely dirty, I kept my shoes on as I didn't want to walk in my bare feet. The only redeeming factor was that the staff were nice and check in and out was fairly simple. There were also restaurants close by. Not a place I would stay again. Its worth paying the few extra bucks to stay somewhere you know your going to get a good night sleep.

The pictures provided online are falsely advertised. Hotel is old and out dated, in need of serious remodel. Outside surroundings make you fearful of your safety at night, and just not at all what is advertised.

Dirty carpets, no security, cheap hotel, people smoking crank on the corner and shooting drugs, homeless shelter across the street, people shouting all night. And on and on.

We could just barely pick up the wifi in our room, and it was so weak we had to turn it off to actually load anything. They don't have a business center or even one computer in the lobby for guests to use instead. The other big issue was the attitude and responsiveness of the staff. When we reported problems to the front desk, we were brushed off in a way that made it clear they didn't care at all.

This hotel was cheap. And that's about all it's got going for it. It's located on the bad side of town, the building is extremely old, and there are literally no amenities. The bed was clean so it was acceptable. Not somewhere I'd ever stay again.

The staff was polite and the hotel was clean, it was just very very old. Definitely due for a renovation. The worst part was the neighborhood. It is on one edge of Tenderloin, so there were homeless people, filth and open drug use on the streets.

Spacious rooms and the staff was very friendly and helpful but the rooms were not clean. The carpets were dusty.

Friendly staff. The room was clean, but needed detailing and a refresh. The toilet didn't flush properly. I didn't feel comfortable taking a bath in the tub. The closet stunk.
