Bar 414 (205 E Houston St,) is a must for cocktails and blues fans. It was founded in honor of blues artist Robert Johnson and serves cocktails inspired by recipes from the 1920s prohibition era. If you cannot find what you are looking for, the bartender will gladly whip up a customized drink for you. For a more casual drink, head to the Blue Star Brewing Company (1414 S Alamo St). Pleasantly located by the river, it serves different kinds of craft beers and food as well. If you are lucky, there will be a live music performance.
To get a complete drinks experience, the 3-hour long Barwalk (300 Alamo Plaza) is a great choice. Organized at night, it takes you to historic and unique taverns in the city center. Groups are kept small to ensure a nice ambiance and easy interaction with the guide. Drinks are not included.
No matter what time your day ends, you are always welcome at Mi Tierra Cafe y Panadería (218 Produce Row), a Mexican cafe and bakery that is open 24/7. For a tequila, beer, or margarita, you need to be at its Mariachi Bar. It is a bit touristy, but the ambiance is amazing and well worth it. Lastly, Waxy O’Connor’s (234 River Walk St) is that always-present Irish Pub, where you can relax with some pub food and a wide selection of beers while listening to live music.
