Great victorian era historic hotel across the street from The Alamo and a block from the riverwalk. Excellent breakfast buffet. Very reasonable price. Loved it

We stayed at the hotel Due to its proximity to the Scottish Rite Theatre, which was the reason we were in San Antonio. The hotel location is FANTASTIC, as it’s located next to the Alamo mission, and a few blocks from the riverwalk. The historic part of the hotel is great, but the amenities and rooms are not as luxurious as the lobby itself. It is worth noting we were put in the original part of the hotel. The rooms were small and the walls are paper thin. We heard every conversation our neighbors had on either side of us, and could hear people clear as day in the hallway and out in the street (we were on the 4th floor). There was a lot of light streaming in from the bottom of our room door, and the blackout curtains allowed for a lot of light to come in early in the morning. There was no exhaust fan in the bathroom and the private balcony in the room was inaccessible due to being structurally compromised. The bed and pillows were ok, but overall both my husband and I slept terribly the weekend we were there. Some amenities were fine, like the pool and gym, but they’re dated. The Menger Bar had a great ambiance, but the quality of the menu and glassware felt cheap compared to the rest of the bar. We did not have a chance to try the restaurant, but would be willing to go back and give it a chance. Overall, I would go back only to see if my experience changes by staying in the newer part of the hotel. Otherwise, we will opt for a more modern hotel next time.

We enjoyed our 3 nights at this historic Menger Hotel. The Alamo is virtually next door, and the Riverwalk is 3 minutes away. Valet parking worked well, run by hard-working young people. There is a slight backup when everyone is checking out at 9-10 AM. Our room was very nice. One night we had noisy neighbors, but that's not the hotel's fault. It's an old building with connecting doors between rooms. Front desk and housekeeping were first-rate, friendly, well-trained to make the guest feel comfortable.

Loved the historical elegance of the hotel and furnishings

The history of the hotel, and the hotel itself was beautiful

The hotel boasts the oldest bar in Texas where Ted Roosevelt formed the Rough Riders. It is across the road from the Alamo and one block away from the Riverwalk. Very cool old building.

Convenience to the Alamo and River walk….the Hotel itself is full of history and the atmosphere is very welcoming.

There is a lot of construction around the hotel so that access to the hotel is limited. It was very noisy outside the rooms on the side near the Rivercenter Mall. Other than that, it’s a great hotel, and I plan to come here every year. I love this hotel.

Atmosphere was wonderful and the history was very interesting

This place was awesome! Close to everything. The property was amazing well beautiful. The Riverwalk two blocks away from the Alamo was next-door I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone.

A classic property literally next door to the Alamo, full of the history it has been present for (Teddy’s Rough Riders were formed in the hotel). Everyone should stay at a classic property somewhere instead of a cookie cutter.

Walking distance to river walk and the Alamo. Perfect location.

Very clean enjoyed the historical vibe and all the antique

Great location and service, but the room was hot.

The bed are very uncomfortable. I understand this is an old hotel. But get new beds. Housekeeping all 3 days did not make up bed or come in room at all to dump trash. For the price this place is not worth it. I forgot itba lot of construction in the area amd valet parking is rhe only option on weekend can take a while for them to get your car

I liked the history of the Hotel. It was very interesting.

Hello Alma, I'm sorry to let you down on this current stay, but allot of these challenges are due because this is a 165 year old hotel. Most rooms on the "historic" were not built like a modern day hotel room. Although remodeling and changes have been made through the years, some of the challenges still exist. We have added to the hotel and we do have "newer" rooms and please ask for those sections of the hotel on your next trip. I hope you we will allow us to host you again in the near future and show you a better experience. Thank you for taking time to give us feedback and these details will be passed on to our higher management staff. Take Care.
