Love the historic nature of the place. Unfortunately, the boiler failed while I was there, so I couldn't take a hot shower. That suggests a lack of preventive maintenance. Second problem occurred at checkout: Rather than being able to quickly store my bags for a few hours with the concierge, I was told at first that I would have to continue to keep my bag that included a laptop, because the hotel couldn't store it, and then, when I complained to another person at the front desk, I was told that it could, in fact, be held, but only by the security staff -- unlike what I've experienced at any other hotel. That delayed me on both ends of my free time during the day -- I had to wait for the security staff both to drop off my bag and to pick it up. I appreciate your concern about my belongings, but why is every other hotel able to handle this expeditiously? Both of these are minor problems -- "first world problems," someone might say, since it's not imperiling anything. But it just detracted from the experience I hoped to have at the hotel.

Everything was great except we ended up on the side facing the Alamo, so it was kind of noisy during the night, but the room itself was nice and clean. The staff were friendly whenever we encountered them and the food at the restaurant was excellent.

Enjoyed its historic and beautiful architecture. Cant say anything bad about this hotel..we enjoyed our stay.

Staff was good, hotel and property was great and historic, ideal location, great value for the price

Very friendly staff all around. ( valet guys, people at the front desk, housekeepers, maintenance workers, etc.)Great location to river walk , restraunts, shopping. What I didnt like....$50 for the buffet on Easter per person and no free parking. If I already payed for a plane, a car, and a hotel. I think i would get to either park free or get a discount on the buffet. The complimentary water was nice though each day sense it was really hot out.

love the location, but being an old building, there was no instant heat in the rooms and the weather had turned cold

The allure of a haunted hotel drew us to the property and we were not disappointed.

The historical scene was nice. The heated pool was nice. Make sure to request a roomNOT directly in front of the elevator unless you prefer to not slee each time someone gets on and off.

Wonderful historic hotel, grand design, spacious and echoes back to days gone by from late 1800s.

Beautiful lobbies, but rooms just felt dated without charm.

Graciousness. Location. The lobby, like a museum. Food

Great experience! Staff super friendly! It IS 140 years old but... what an iconic site. Soak in the history!

Lovely room, nice stay all around .central location within walking distance of lots of fun places - Ripples, riverwalk and the horse drawn carriages!!

Beautiful hotel. Great experience. The only thing we thought was a bit odd is that they automatically upfront charge you $100 in incidentals and then credit it back to you after your stay if there are no incidentals to charge for. This was not at all explained when I signed the paperwork on this. The desk clerk handed me the paper and asked me to sign if my address was correct. He was talking to me so I looked at the address and signed.

This hotel is absolutely beautiful! And it was so close to everything that we never needed to use our car.
