Casona Oaxaca

great location/staff, but get a room with a window

Staff: very helpful, excellent English. huge asset to travelers. Housekeeping was prompt and clean the room daily. Location: 1 block from Zocalo and 2 blocks from Mercado 20 de noviembre and Mercado Benito Juarez. Excellent for walking around the central district Restaurant: I didn't eat there. But it's set up in the interior courtyard with a retractable roof. Looks pleasant. Room: I booked a "standard room". (I chose the cheapest hotel/room on Orbitz with air-conditioning.) It faces the courtyard, *** but it does not have any windows ***. It was a big enough room, but it felt a bit, um, prison-ish. (I didn't spent a ton of time there regardless.) Air-conditioner worked well, and they give you 2 bottles of water. (Housekeeping replenishes them.) Bed was firm. Bathroom: clean, but could use more light. A few reviews have complained about a somewhat foul odor. I encountered it to, but there is a rubber stopper/cover for the shower drain. That seemed to help. An annoyance for sure, but nothing that is awful. I wish the hotel would include a washcloth!

Hotel Casa del Sótano

Terrific, elegant, convenient hotel

I could not have asked for a better hotel or better staff to assist me during my stay in Mexico City. Everyone was friendly, helpful and kind -- and patient with my sub-standard spanish speaking skills. The room was perfect - no complaints whatsoever - and the breakfast on the terrace was spectacular. I hope to someday visit Mexico City again, and I will definitely stay at this hotel again.

Hotel Mayis

Good value, but small rooms.

Conveniently located, Hotel Mayis is a good value for the peso. Staff is accommodating (only fair English if that's important). Beware, however, that the least expensive rooms are very small (my wife said "no way!") and on the street which is noisy. Nice bakery right across the street and two inexpensive cafeterias are right down Morelos a block or so.

Hotel Aitana

All the staff were friendly and helpful. Homey.

A short 4 day stay but we could walk to most places and the hotel helped us find a tour to Mitla and nearby area.
