We really loved our room, which was downstairs facing a private courtyard. The bathroom was extremely small, but we are used to that. The desk personnel are nice enough and the upstairs balcony cafe is very convenient in the morning. The view is lovely from there. The location is convenient to most of downtown Oaxaca City, but on a very busy street so the first part of the walk isn't pleasant and it is difficult for vehicles to stop in front of the hotel.
This is a fantastic base for exploring Oaxaca city. The building is beautiful, it has an amazing roof terrace with panoramic city views, lovely bedrooms and bathrooms, and the host Danny is friendly, generous and happy to share his extensive knowledge with you. If you're lucky enough to have a room that overlooks the central galleria make sure you shut the curtains after your morning shower so as not to distract the other guests from their breakfast. We caused such a scene that the host thought that someone had fallen off the roof.
The hotel is well located and so pretty , but if you’re located in the first rooms you will hear EVERYTHING the hole night, so you won’t sleep well, people knocking the door to get in and people talking at the entrance. The rooms are ok, but no air conditioner at least not our rooms, and we couldn’t sleep well, besides it’s too hot here, so if you go out sightseeing and want some fresh, here is not the option. The service is just good. Do not have room service and if you pay with card to have to go to Recepcion, the breakfast are really good and the guy who attends is si friendly, speaks perfect English , at dinner it’s other story food is not as good at breakfast and service not good. We saw other hotel for the same price with AC and pool also downtown but was full. I’m not sure if we’ll return, I don’t think so, maybe for the breakfast
A fine stay of 5 days at Casa del Sotano. Very quiet, well taken care of place. I would return any time. Very careful staff, clean, good mattress. Manager of the terrace restaurant very personable. Don't miss the Oaxaca omelette.
The location is very convenient. The cost is reasonable. The staff are extremely friendly. The rooms are small but comfortable. The bathrooms are minuscule. The breakfast is so so; better to walk a half block and breakfast at Cafe Cafe. All in all an okay stay.
We stayed in three different places in Oaxaca and this was our favourite. It was spotlessly clean and the bed was really comfortable with crisp white sheets and no horrible plastic underlay! There was hot water in the shower. The only downside was that the rooms with one bed were a little small. The onsite restaurant is fine and is in a lovely courtyard setting. There is a rooftop terrace with gerat views. The place was pretty quiet. The staff and owners were very helpful and friendly. We were able to leave bags there while we went hiking. It was great value. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
Liked this hotel very much. Friendly, very helpful staff, good breakfast, wonderful relaxing terrace with good views. Small room at first felt confining, but we had tiny balcony with good view on 2nd floor, & since we were out walking most days, room was very comfortable. Comfy bed, very clean hotel & rooms, good shower, & quiet. Very close to Santo Domingo (3 blocks) & easily walkable to entire historic center. Great value.
Really charming convenient hotel at a great price. We had a bedroom with sitting room, off courtyard, with unique brick arched ceiling and stone walls (It's an old convent). Room was kept immaculate, and each night we returned to find fresh bathroom towels rolled into a different shape: a peacock or a swan or love birds. We felt really welcomed by all of the staff and hope to come back here again.
Excellent hotel in a great location. It's 2 blocks away from the Iglesia de Santo Domingo and a 10 minute walk from the Zocalo. Lots of good restaurants and bars within a few minutes walk. The hotel is fantastic; quiet, cool, comfortable rooms. Staff is friendly and helpful. Even though I speak very little Spanish and they generally didn't speak much English, we were able to figure out how to extend my stay a few nights and they called a cab for my early morning flight out of Oaxaca. There's a good little bar/restaurant in the hotel with a good view. Also, the wifi is very good.
Recent stay at this hotel based on reviews. It’s a good brisk 15 min walk to the Zocalo all hills. Rooms was very small and the bathroom so small you could barely turn around. Much like a bathroom in a camper. The on-site restaurant is breakfast only and was not even open as cook was Ill. I would seek another option. Hotel was clean enough but not comfortable.
