After years of travel I finally get it. These older "well established" hotels have the smallest rooms. Only on packing for checkout did we find the folding luggage rack tucked in back of the wardrobe. The wardrobe was inadequate with two small drawers and no top shelf. No place to put the luggage. Tiny bathroom, big shower, small sink. Towels were rolled up and balanced on a skinny shelf. All fell off when I tried to add another towel. No microwave, fridge or charging ports. On top of room charges there's a $35./day "resort fee" as well as valet parking fee. We'll try other options next time.

A wonderful holiday stay! We’ll do it again.

So nice

I'm not a person who is difficult to please nor have I ever written a negative online review, but I feel compelled to warn others about this hotel: unless you enjoy wasting your money, I'd encourage you not to book a room at Hotel Viking. We're not big spenders, but this was a special occasion, so we were willing to splurge for a few nights while in Newport for the first time, but we paid Four Seasons prices for what sadly ended up being a Holiday Inn experience. Our 3-night stay was thousands of dollars and bought us a view of the parking lot, a dirty bathtub with an incessantly leaky faucet, a lamp with a broken shade, no coffeemaker, and no housekeeping services. The staff was generally quite nice, although we had a particularly off-putting experience with a staff member in the lobby bar who was unnecessarily rude and dismissive to us. Hours of operation for certain services (e.g., cafe, lobby bar) were surprisingly limited and/or completely different than listed in the information provided to us at check-in. Valet parking is exorbitant ($40/day) and deceptive (they don't tell you it's $40/day). And on top of the already expensive base-price per room/per night, there's an additional $37.25 "Resort Fee" per room/per night...for amenities and services that are bare-bones, at best. Overall, my sense was that Hotel Viking cared more about taking my money than about providing a quality, guest-centered experience. This was easily the most disappointing hotel stay of my life.

The room was expensive for the sparse offerings. No coffee machine, air conditioner did not work and we were sweltering in the room before they finally switched rooms. I was told that there were no ice buckets for last yr. yet in the second room there was one. (Don't appreciate lying at all). The person at the desk was aloof and arrogant when I told him about the conditions in the room. What was spectacular was the breakfast! Fresh and delicious. Service was amazing! Also loved the roof top bar/lounge with live music that was fabulous! I would not go here again. Too expensive for the offerings.

It was close to the attractions- so that was good. For the price I paid though i would’ve expected a nicer room. It was very basic. The bathroom was old and there was a drip in the bathtub- which was half full of water when i came in. It looked rusty. I didnt want to shower for the night i was there. There was also no coffee machine in the room which I consider a basic hotel amenity. The Hotel in general was nice and has a great sap and restaurant /gym / pool.

This is a busy hotel. Our check-in was atrocious. The valet brought us a dolly and then left us to our own devices to load it and push it up the narrow walkway into the hotel. The front desk person was horrible. Very negative, slumped over his computer, missing his front tooth..not the welcome one would expect from a hotel that is charging you $350 night. Our room was small but clean and the bed was very very comfy. That said, no coffee maker or fridge in room...had to go to lobby in the morning and pay $4 for a cup of mediocre coffee. We had massages in the spa which were great and is very clean. I am offended however that they charge a $30 "resort fee". This is not a resort. It is a hotel with a weight room and a very small pool. Either bake that charge into the room rate or get rid of it. Don't nickel and dime us with a bogus resort fee...especially on the day of check out which is at 11am! It is a great location, away from the hustle and bustle of Thames street but I don't think I would stay here again and instead opt for a smaller place where the customer service is on point.

Short walk to shopping and restaurants

This hotel does not match up with the price. It is in a great location but the quality is less than I expected.

I liked the history and the location. The food at the restaurant was excellent and all areas were clean. I like that there was a valet available even tho I didn’t use it I would have if there’d been no parking available. I didn’t like that the pool was busy and loud at 9 o’clock at night with the current restrictions in place I thought it would’ve been quieter.

Excellent location. The rooms and bathroom were small.

The staff is so warm and welcoming. They make every stay feel like home.

The property is old and run and not worth the price. The sink was broken in our room, no mini -fridge, there was an old AC window unit that dripped water and made a lot of noise. Fitness center and pool we’re both under construction. The only plus is the location and a nice lobby but I would not stay again. The Newport Marriott is much better value.

Dear Franklin, Though we are an older building, we do our best to maintain a high level of comfort. It is of note that we do not advertise microwaves or fridges at this time; however, had we known that you were not happy with the amenities provided, we would have been happy to address these concerns. We also mention the resort fee across all channels for the convenience of our guests, and we apologize for any miscommunication in this regard. Thank you for taking a moment to leave us your thoughts; in the future, we hope you'll consider giving us another chance to impress. Sincerely, Meaghan Walsh General Manager
