The rooms, the view, the lawn, the meals all outstanding. There is no better spot in Newport to sit on the front lawn and have a drink with friends and watch the boats sail by with the sun setting right in front of you.
Went here as a birthday/anniversary dinner, this place was exceptional in every aspect. We came on time for our reservation but asked if we could get drinks at the bar prior to being seated. Wherever you are seated is a beautiful view. The drinks were great along with service. We then were seated in the dining room. They have a pre-fixed menu which has certain items that are up charged. We ordered appetizers raw oysters (first time having them and I was not disappointed) and an asparagus item. Entree's were Lamb Wellington (up-charge item) and a filet mignon. Dessert we had ice cream vanilla with all toppings and a raspberry sherbet with a white chocolate ganache. We also received tastings of random items that the chef is prepping and are not yet on the menu. If you can make a stop out here do it! Service, food, drinks and beautiful setting. p.s they gave us a complimentary gooseberry jam made by the chef!
Lunch on the Lawn on a beautiful summer day was outstanding. View is spectacular. Servers were excellent and attentive. Not hurried at all. If you like lobster rolls, I recommend ordering it. It is one of the best I have had and I have had lobster rolls all around New England. The hot dog roll was packed with lobster. Served with chips (house made, I believe), and coleslaw.
Not what we were hoping for! We were looking forward to a relaxing getaway after our wedding and this resort is completely over run with outside guests dining or drinking at the Lawn. We were so disappointed. They also seemed to do very little to make Inn guests feel special/welcomed. The chaos and noise from the Lawn bar and restaurant could be easily heard from our room and made you feel like you were at a party you couldn't leave/escape. There are definitely some positives to this property like the included breakfast (which is calm and quiet because outside guests are not allowed) but not enough to make it worth it, in our opinion.
Having some drinks and snacks on the lawn at Castle Hill is the absolute best. We went pretty early and used their free valet service. Nearly all of the Adirondack chairs were empty so we picked a couple with a gorgeous view and settled in. I had their blueberry lemonade cocktail and my husband had a drink I can't remember righ now but they were our wedding cocktails. So good. The best though - their chips and onion dip. Holy heck it was absolutely amazing! It's the perfect snack for a drink in the warm sunshine.
I simply can't say enough great things about THE LAWN AT CASTLE HILL INN. I've been to Newport at least a dozen times, and somehow it took until this most recent trip June/July 2019 to discover the place! We made reservations for lunch @ 1 PM. We arrived about a half an hour early and were greeted by seriously the nicest staff ever who told us to take a place at one of the beautiful Adirondack Chairs on the lawn with the most amazing views. We did and ordered drinks at the bar on the lawn, which were delicious! We were sat promptly at 1 at a great table with an amazing view under an umbrella to shield us from the sun. This was a highlight of our trip, and we ate at a lot of great restaurants! The staff is AMAZING. The food was delicious. The cocktails terrific. The ambiance was perfect. We started contemplating getting married there (at some unspecified date in the possible near future). It's that great! Highly recommend to anyone, and will definitely be back on every trip to Newport in the future.
A real treat that represents the expectations of a beautiful inn in a beautiful location with wonderful food and service. There are no reservations for this dining area at Castle Hill and they stop seating at The Lawn at 8 pm. However, you want to be there early for the beauty of the water, the sunset and the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The food was delicious, good portions and fair prices. This is the Newport experience you want unless you are 25 and would rather be in a loud, crowded bar, restaurant on or near Thames Street.
I have been going to Castle Hill Inn for day visits for many years and have had the extreme pleasure of staying there a few years back on one occasion. When it was time to plan an important family event, I couldn't think of anywhere better thank Castle Hill and I was right. I started planning for my family to stay there months in advance and we booked 5 rooms in the Inn as well as a special dinner. The staff started planning with me many months in advance and the service and kindness was overwhelming from beginning to the end. When I first called I spoke to Melissa who helped me start the planning and then Lew was heavily involved in the final months of planning. They made us feel as though we were the most important guests ever! Lew called us and wrote to us almost every day as the key days approached and was so excited for us that the weather was going to be great! They accommodated our every wish and were so incredibly lovely in doing so. Now the Inn itself- the Inn is spectacular, the rooms amazing, food also amazing and the dining staff was equally as fabulous (especially our waiter Carl). The inn is elegant, warm and inviting. I know this sounds too good to be true but we cannot thank Melissa, Lew and the full staff at Castle Hill for making our stay and our special event perfect. It is truly a very 'happy place' for me and my family. Thank you....
Our little cottage on the beach was decorated so nicely in a nautical theme. The stay was comfortable and relaxing. The breakfast brought to our cottage each morning was delicious. The service and the food in both the main restaurant and the bar was excellent. All employees are very friendly.
We came here for drinks after arriving on a Friday night. There was a group of 6 of us, which turned in to a group of 11. When we arrived at 5:30 or so, all of the Adirondack chairs were taken, so we went up to the bar area and got drinks. We had hoped to get a table, but tables were only for full groups all eating entrees. When we got to the bar there were plenty of stools available looking out at the restaurant and the harbor. Some of us wound up getting food (I recommend the burger, but heard wonderful things about the lobster roll as well, and the fries were delicious!). It was funny to see some people dressed very casually while others were in gowns for rehearsal dinners, but everyone was extremely friendly and no one felt out of place. By the time we finished eating we were all able to get a seat on an Adirondack chair to watch the sun as it began to set. An absolutely beautiful sight. I highly recommend a visit here, even if it is only for a drink.
