As you drive up the long entrance road, you see an impressive brownstone mansion. It has a wonderful arched gateway leading to the main door and lobby. There are a small number of rooms for the size of the property. It seems geared towards weddings and other groups. A continental breakfast is included. It was complete and even had hardboiled eggs for the protein lovers. The sleeping rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The bathroom was updated. Keep in mind that the charm that older hotels offer also means windows that don't open easily and room temperature that is not individually controlled. I suggest that management provide a device with extra outlets since they are scarce in older buildings. Also, more towels should be provided.
The OceanCliff mansion is located in a beautiful bayside area located about 10-15 minute ride outside the downtown Newport scene. The location offers beautiful scenery and stunning sunsets as well as quiet. There are different room configurations in this older building so be sure to ask to make sure you are getting what you want. There are no elevators but steps are not steep to reach the second floor. Bathrooms are renovated with good water pressure. Furniture is older and a little battered but the housekeeping in the room was good. The front desk staff were responsive and aimed to please guests. A nice continental breakfast was included in the room rate. The woman who helped run the breakfast area was very attentive and kind. Some of the areas of the building show some wear, but this was minimized by the overall wonderful historical experience offered in this location.
We stopped by at Ocean Cliff in Newport out of curiosity because we had been here maybe 12 years ago and it was amazing, but then it seemed to close for a while. Anyway, I googled it and it came up as being open. I can't put my finger on what is quite wrong, but it definitely needs help. We went to stop for a drink (we ate at Castle Hill Inn) because reviews I had read did not speak highly of the food or servers here. Anyway, the place was dead, hardly any cars, but you had to valet park. We decided to give it a try anyway and there were a couple of people at the bar and maybe 2 or 3 outdoor tables where people were eating. We saw a handful of adirondack chairs on the lawn and figured that would be a good spot to take in the view. We had to order our drinks at the bar and carry them down to the chairs. The view was beautiful, but you looked across and saw Castle Hill booming with business and this place had 2 other couples on the lawn. Thankfully, a wedding party showed up and brought some life to this place, otherwise, I don't even know how they could stay in business with this few amount of customers on a Friday afternoon. When we were leaving we walked around to the front and in the past, it was the highlight of the building with a round brick driveway, but now it is shut off to the public. We probably will not return just because it was kind of boring and there are better options nearby. It is prime property, but, in my opinion, not being utilized the way it could be.
They call this a hotel and rssort and it is nothing of the sort. There is OceanCliff and OceanCliff II. Cliff I is the resort, which for the most part is seasonal rentals. Cliff II is a hotel only, no amenities whatsoever. Completely misleading.
We stayed in a one bedroom at the timeshare portion of Ocean Cliff 1 and 2 Had a very nice living room with a gas fireplace a big screen TV and a nice pull out couch and a small and basic kitchen. No oven-but there’s two burners a large microwave and a toaster oven and a coffee maker and a couple of pots and pans and some dishes. The view out of the front window was of part of the bay and it was really beautiful in those table and chairs outside on a little balcony area. The front desk staff were really nice and helpful and we appreciated them being around when you need them. The pool and hot tub are in a glass enclosed area the hot tub was set at a hot temperature which was nice however I noticed the pool tiles needed to be cleaned had a lot of dirt on it. The bedding was sufficient the mattress was all right and the pillows were probably the worst thing in the unit they were very hard and gave us neck problems during the week. There was a shuttle that will take you into town which we did not use. We enjoyed our week here it was quiet and peaceful apart from a lady above us who stomped around every morning for an hour. I’m sure will be back again to enjoy this lovely property.
Our friends recommended this place. It was the most beautiful setting imaginable. We had a drink and appetizer around 5pm and then just joined others on the cliff overlooking the ocean and the beautiful boats.. service was wonderful. Newport is a great place and this is a must stop destination. Price was very reasonable.
While attending a relative’s wedding, my wife lost the tiny 1/2” gold flower of an expensive ring that was made in India. We looked around the reception area and other spaces and then left the hotel, informing the front desk about the loss. The next morning, I emailed the hotel with a picture of the damaged ring, when Stephen from the hotel promptly responded: “WE HAVE IT !!!!!!. It will be at the front desk in a envelope with your name on it.” Extremely grateful for the extraordinary service!
Spent a weekend here for a family wedding. Our room was very nice and the bathroom was good sized considering the age of this resort. The staff was very accommodating and the room was clean. This is a popular sit for a wedding and I can see why. The water views are breathtaking and the resort is enchanting. Had a great time!
We rented three rooms for a family wedding, assigned #33,34 & 35. The wedding was lovely. Upon check in we were surprised when entering our rooms, no bathrooms. They were located down the hall although private a cruise ship bath was luxurious in comparison, very similar to dorm living. I requested to switch rooms to “normal” rooms with bathrooms, I was informed there were none. If I knew there were no bathrooms I never would have booked in these conditions. In addition, the walk in closet didn’t even have a light. Upon check out one would have thought the clerk would inquire if everything was fine, never happened. The bill was presented without a word. In closing, do not believe the room photos displayed, if you like dorm life this hotel is for you and do not expect any hospitality from the clerk. This was our first stay at Ocean Cliff and our last. I can not imagine any excuse management can present for this treatment and experience. Just in case you might think our stay was inexpensive the cost was $2,000.00 for no closet lights and a stroll to the bathroom.
This hotel is very pretty. It has a romantic vibe. Rooms are not luxurious but they are clean, bed is comfortable. Staff is helpful and super courteous. The restaurant is amazing, Maggy our waitress was so lovely. She took care of all our needs and made us feel great.
