we stayed at the Livingston Inn for a fall weekend in October and had a wonderful time! the location is great (walkable to the farmer's market, Capitol, pubs/restaurants/etc., or a short drive to lots of attractions, but still tucked away on a quiet street). Peggy was a wonderful host, lovely to talk to, and made our visit so fun, and was even so accommodating to our vegetarian/gluten-free needs! lots of wine and treats out even though we checked in late the first night. our room the (leitch room) was extremely comfortable and modern seeming (great shower!) even though it was charming and antique-looking with a working, cozy fireplace - really romantic. the house itself is quite big with lots of room to hang out and meet the other guests, mingle, or kick back with a book or board game. we wished we had been staying longer. we will definitely be back anytime we are in madison!
If an isthmus forms the link between two lands, the The Livingston is perfectly situated. Not only are to a few steps from the lakefront, but you are never far from a warm welcome, a hearty breakfast or an enlightened conversation over a glass of wine. Peggy is a superb host and her dedication to preserving one of Madison's most historic houses, is your reward for staying there. It is sumptuously comfortable, lovingly kept and a tranquil retreat from the hubbub. You could say, I liked it very much.
My husband and I stayed two nights while visiting our college student during Parent's Weekend. We had a lovely time and found our room very comfortable, clean and spacious. We had the pleasure of meeting other visitors over really good cups of coffee and a delicious breakfast, especially the scones. The Livingston is a beautiful grand old home that echos back to the 19th century. A little bit of Downtown Abby in Madison, WI.
We stayed in the Livingston Inn for 2 nights in October. It is a beautiful old house that has been lovingly restored and furnished with antiques and oriental art. Peggy Furlan, the owner, is a gracious hostess as well as a fine cook! Breakfasts were delicious with fresh fruit, cereals, bacon, egg souffles and homemade scones. There are several rooms where guests can sit and enjoy a glass of wine or read a book. Our bedroom had a very comfortable bed and a large bathroom. It was upstairs, so anyone with mobility issues should let Peggy know ahead of time. It is an old house so you have to expect a few glitches; some rooms had too much heat and some had too little. Peggy was always there to take care of us and tend to any concerns we had. The Livingston Inn is in a very quiet, old neighborhood full of late 19th and early 20th century homes. We walked every where: to the Capitol, the fun restaurants near it, as well as the museums. A great way to enjoy Madison!
We were a first time visitor and would most definitely return. The inn is a beautifully restored historic property in a great location in Madison. The rooms are lovely, homey and warm. Breakfast is delicious and plentiful. The owner and other guests are super friendly.
This place was the perfect take-off point for re-exploring Madison, where I’d lived in the 1990s. It’s within walking distance of the University and the Capitol. Peggy recommended some great places to eat. Our room was clean, charming, and cozy, and we especially enjoyed the wine and chocolate left out for snacking every night. We also enjoyed Ezra, the dog, who is utterly charming, and Peggy is a great cook! The Inn has great common spaces, and we enjoyed a lovely glass of wine at sunset on the dock overlooking Lake Mendota. We will definitely go back if we ever return to Wisconsin!
I am SO glad I decided to stay at this beautiful Victorian home, even if it was only one night. The house is old world quaint and Peggy is a wonderful hostess. She customizes delicious fresh breakfast for all her guests and provides very helpful information about places to eat and sights to see. I went down for a nightcap and stayed for over two hours chatting with a couple who were also guests there, over a couple of glasses of wine. This would never have happened in a hotel!! Loved the experience!
Rich history in the home which is well decorated, beautiful setting, lovely walk to the lake, cooked breakfast with fresh fruit and yogurt as well. Peggy is a joy to visit with, she also engages all the guests. super fast wifi.
This stunning historic inn in Madison is worth planning ahead for. Engaging host, gorgeous decor, views of the lake and a delicious breakfast with fresh fruit and vegetables from the Farmer's Market. So peaceful, you'd never know you were in a college town until you walk a couple of blocks and find yourself in the middle of everything. The best of all worlds
My husband and I travel to Madison at least once every year. We always stay at the Livingston Inn because it is delightful. The accommodations are lovely, the house is beautiful, the breakfasts are delicious, the coffee is excellent, and the host goes out of her way to make sure her guests have everything they need! Breakfast conversations are not to be missed!
