went to atlantica oak island resort for the new year package, decided to go there 2 days ahead for some down time with my wife. Our room was nice and clean and situated in the newest part of the main building with no balcony. They changed the rules and now this is a no smoking resort except at the designated areas (only 2) and not convenient at all, woulld of being nice to know in advance. Lot's of peoples were caught off guard with this, last year could smoke on the balconies but since they upgraded them in the fall, all went to hell. Restaurant food was good and priced right, no entertainment on the weekend unlike last year. New years eve event was fantastic with excellent buffet, same band as last year but they played the same songs plus one new one and seem to cater specific people age wise. Staff is great and go out of their way to help you. Don't think will be going back anytime soon, disappointed about this say. The Avida spa is great by the way, try it won't regret it. Pool, gym and sona were a blessing for relaxation.
Because I lived local for many years I never had opportunity to stay here until recently when a co worker offered me a free voucher for a 1 night stay and breakfast. It was a hectic Christmas so my hunny and I were really looking forward to getting away and enjoying the privacy. Upon booking the hotel was gracious to offer me an oceanview room when I had to reschedule the date; I was delighted and impressed and figured since it was December 29th we were likely to have lots of privacy. We arrived around 4pm and check in was polite and inviting. We could tell that the occupancy was scarce from the parking lot. We were informed that if we wanted supper in the dining room it was best to make a reservation. We were hoping for some evening entertainment in the lounge but as it turns out, it was the one weekend they had none given that New Years was around the corner. We hurried to our room to make our reservation and get ready for the hot tub we had been anticipating on such a cold day. While getting changed a fellow showed up asking if we were missing a lamp; indeed we were so I thanked him and went to plug it in at bedside. This is when we noted there was no plug but rather a old and taped orange outdoor electrical cord to plug into. Needless to say we didn't for safety reason. This is when we also started noticing the stains on the carpets, rips in the wallpaper...just not the dreamy vacation spot I had always imagined it to be. We proceeded to race to the hot tub/pool area only to find out that the hot tub was literally that - a hot tub of water. The jets were not working at all - HUGE disappointment! To compensate we tried to the pool which was colder than an indoor should be. Feeling very disheartened I made comment to my hunny that the meal had better make up for the shortcomings; and it did. I applaud the wait staff and the chef. The supper was lovely and breakfast the next day was the same. I would highly recommend it as a great spot for a nice bite in the area but as for accomodations; not a chance. The area is spectacular so it is a shame that the facility itself was not kept up. On checkout, I was never asked how my stay was - no surprise.
I like watching the TV series about treasure hunters on Oak Island so I was given a present for Christmas that would include two nights at this hotel with my Sweety, breakfast included and maybe access to the spa for a massage. We booked but there were no massage bookings available for the time period. Oh well, pool and hot tub with sauna would have to do. When you pull up to the entrance it looks like the hotel has given itself 4 stars. That turned out to be wishful thinking on their part. The rooms are clean and appointed like a standard hotel room. The hotel is pet friendly, which is nice. The walls were thin, we could hear goings on in the hallway and nearby rooms. The bathroom door looked like cheap veneer and was starting to splinter along the bottom edge under a coat of paint. The toilet paper was the worst excuse for a two-ply ever and not what one expects from this level of accommodations. If I want two-ply TP that feels like someone rolled a pair of rough one-ply together, I would maybe expect to look for it in a bus station washroom or a public paper towel dispenser. There does not appear to be a scent policy as we were literally driven from the restaurant by a couple who must have been trying to twitch noses with their miasma as far away as Chester. We ended up taking dinner in the lounge which is served by the same kitchen. For a starter we tried the goat cheese ancini. While delicious, it probably would have tasted better with a different cheese selection. I had a very tasty order of fish and chips, and my Sweety tried the scallops with cauliflower puree. Her serving would best be described as meagre so she helped me with the pile of fish and chips. We thoroughly enjoyed the food. After relaxing in the room we decided to check out the hot tub, pool and sauna. We trekked all the way to the end of the building to find the pool. Upon arrival there were no towels, so I got to hike back to the desk. Instead of towels being available there, apparently they have to call someone and dispatch them to unlock a locker at the pool. There must be a real towel theft problem in Western Shore. We started with the hot tub. While it looks nicely appointed, that turned out to be a bit of a stylish veneer for a dated, leaky, aging tub. Only two of the outlets could be generously described as jets. From there we went to swim in the pool, but the temperature was a bit too cold for comfort. At least the sauna was hot. The only other thing we tried at the hotel was breakfast as we spent our day touring around the Lunenburg to Mahone Bay area. We did have a breakfast buffet on one morning and ordered a la carte for the other. Apparently if there are fewer than 40 guests, no buffet, which is a shame because it was very good. They also make the servers run around dispensing coffee and tea instead of putting it with the juices for customers to help themselves. Both the buffet and the menu breakfasts were tasty and we got big helpings. All in all what really makes this place are the friendly staff and the tasty food. Outside of that, the location and scenery are what prevented a two-star review. If given my preference I would give this hotel a miss. I don't plan on staying here again, but we would both definitely return to the restaurant.
We have stayed at the Atlantica several times in the past and have always had a pleasant stay. This was no exception. Reservations and check-in were easy and efficient and our room was clean and comfortable. The beds are very comfortable and we had a good sle. The only complaints were not enough plugs for our devices ( bring a power bar) and they really need a bathroom fan that is on a separate switch from the light. Although efficient the fan is very noisy and should be replaced with a quieter version. They have a very nice dining room and breakfast is served in the bar by the fireplace. M
have been staying here for many years and its in a slow decline, the rooms downstairs often have leaks around the external door, water stains on the ceiling and dated bathrooms, some updates have been done with new flooring etc but it really needs some serious investment as its an awesome location and the staff are the best. food at the function we attended was good but even though just from the kitchens was not very warm we will be back in the future, like I said the staff make the place
This resort overlooks the infamous oak island. The view from our room was amazing. The property has everything you need. The staff were very pleasant and accomadating. The view from the dining room was excellent as was the food and service. The open fireplace in the bar area made our evenings very memorable from a romantic point of view. Our server in the bar, Jason, went over and above to make our evening special. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone. We will return.
As a party of eight and a toddler, we stayed here for one night and thoroughly enjoyed the lodge experience. We shared the large lodge which has obviously been 2 at one time and made into one larger accommodation. Everything you need in the kitchen department. All toiletries and towels provided. Outdoor seating and a fire-pit with a barbeque on the decking for al fresco cooking. If you run out of logs for the pit, just call reception and they'll deliver more at a cost of $6 a bundle. Beautiful scenery and really comfy beds. Would love another stay on our next visit to Canada.
Very friendly staff, good restaurant for breakfast and dinner, hallway carpets are in bad need of replacement, great views, noisy rooms, spa hours limited, beds are in need of replacement. close to Oak Island and Lunenburg
Room was very nice, somewhat dated but charming with a balcony that you could enjoy your coffee and sit and watch the ocean! my only complaint was that the breakfast filled up each morning and not fun to have to wait, the $14 buffet wasn't over priced but not a bargain as very simple prepared powdered eggs, etc, .. But the friendly staff both at the front desk, maids, the restaurant staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. Great weekend,
This resort is about an hour's drive outside of Halifax along the south shore in a rural area. It's a short drive to Chester, Bridgewater and even Lunenburg. There is a great spa on site. They have an outdoor pool. It is very scenic walk along the shore. This would be a nice pace for a couple to go for a weekend getaway. There are also some activities for a family getaway. We had a corporate retreat here with about 50 staff and it worked well for that event. If you're visiting Nova Scotia and plan on exploring the South Shore, this would make a good base camp. There is an onsite restaurant and the food was very good. The breakfast buffet is okay. There is live entertainment at the onsite bar. Also, there's a games area for the kids. The rooms are spacious and clean, albeit a bit outdated. They bill themselves as a 5 star resort but have 3 star rooms. The rooms have all the usual amenities including a mini-fridge. There is no room service. All staff were friendly except perhaps the hostess at the restaurant for breakfast who was pretty strict about waiting to be seated although she was a little slow getting to the line up of guests. The main competition for this place would be White Point Beach Resort so be sure to check that Resort out as well before booking. I think White Point would be more child friendly.
