We are here a few times over the years as we live local. Unfortunately forgot that there is a preference for hard rock screaming radio in the restaurant as back ground music! What's wrong with management ?? There are easy ways to have a suitable background music nowadays. People come for the view, the experience and a relaxed getaway. That kind of music belongs in a tattoo shop not in a fine dining restaurant. Dinner was good, leek soup fantastic!
I stayed Aug 7th-Aug 9th and attended a conference there. The conference brochure said there was a special rate available. When I called to book my room, nobody on staff even knew there was a conference on these dates. No rate was given despite the 100+ guests that attended the conference. When I checked out, my bill was $413 but when I arrived home and checked my visa statement online, I was charged $476. I left a msg with the account department Thursday to clear up the misunderstanding and left a 2nd msg on Monday. Finally, someone returned my call on Tuesday. It turned out that I was billed for the room beside me even after I signed for my correct amount of $413. I found this to be incompetent and no effort was made by management to reach out to me for the inconvenience. The food at the restaurant was ok, and a colleague of mine had a hair in her meal. Next time I'm in the area, I will Airbnb it. I suggest you do as well.
When we first arrived at the hotel I was tired after travelling from Montreal so I have to say I was disappointed. For the children the reception area reminded them of their great grandmother's care home but despite that and the lack of carpet in the bedrooms it was a good place to stay. The staff were lovely, the breakfast & dinner were good. The area where it is situated is beautiful but you need a car or a boat. The surrounding small towns were delightful & charming. Mahone Bay just lovely and there was birdlife with Ospreys and Bald Eagles for my young son to photograph as he was beginning to think they didn't exist in Canada. The distances are great in Canada so we didn't really explore that far other than Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, Chester, Peggy's Cove and Halifax but all are worth a visit. There are walks & cycle paths through the countryside linking to the towns but having been used as mosquito food in Algonquin we didn't explore those but another time we will. For me this was the highlight of our three week holiday in Canada whilst the hotel may not have been what I expected the surrounding beauty of the area in which it is sited more than makes up for that. Just stunning.
We spent two nights here on our first trip to Nova Scotia. We weren't given the room we booked (king bed) initially but were "upgraded" to a one bedroom suite with a smaller bed. That suite was drab and tired looking and very dated! We asked for what we booked and did get the King room. Luckily that room was more refreshed and not so stale looking. The bed was great but the pillows were horrible. So lumpy and old. The hallways are blah and could use a fresh paint job...preferably with some colour! Not all white which shows every mark. The restaurant is small and also very dated. The menu was small with not many choices considering there is just the one restaurant. The breakfast buffet was okay, but nothing special. We didn't use the pools but they looked okay. All in all an OK place but needs some updating
We used a rebate voucher for this resort hotel. Plenty of rooms available but we were given the room with the most obstructed view. Check-in understaffed, long wait to check in with only one customer ahead with issues. Inside of room was nice but cheap refitted noisy bathtub. Good eating but expensive Overpriced overall Nice hotel but as a resort, it was disappointing.
We got a package that included the room, chocolates, wine, and included dinner and breakfast the next day. The property was nice but the food was average at best. The bed was very uncomfortable but our room had a lovely balcony and view of the ocean. Breakfast in the morning was very good (eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, home fries, pastries, etc.) but dinner was disappointing. The menu was limited and the food was mediocre (and lukewarm). Staff were all warm and friendly. This would be a great place to bring kids as it had an indoor and outdoor pool (also indoor dry sauna and hot tub, and a small kiddie pool/area), an outdoor games area with mini golf, basketball court, sports equipment, etc. Some paddle boats and kayaks are available to rent from the marina on property.
Positives and negatives. Positives are that the restaurant is absolutely amazing every meal I had was delicious! Along with the excellent views this made for an enjoyable meal. The room was average and the staff were friendly, although the negatives; are that the corridors smell slightly maybe because of dog urine as I know the hotel has dogs stay. The swimming pool indoor I found was dirty when you look at the tiles they were green i didn't want to swim after that. All in all a good stay although it was a real shame about the pool.
There is a stunning terrace to sit on and eat lunch with the most beautiful view over the bay. The restaurant is lovely too, with the same wonderful views. The food was excellent and the restaurant beautifully furnished. However, the rooms need updating. Our room was tired, the curtains were hanging off at the ends with broken clips. The outside pool is 'heated' but was freezing and the indoor pool is not really heated so we didn't swim. The hot tub was also not working during our visit, nor was the ice machine. Never mind, just sit on that amazing terrace! Great, friendly staff!
Oak Island is beautiful. Great location, lots to do. Swimming, mini golf, tennis, walking trails, two restaurants, live entertainment, marina, etc. Chalets are great, lots of room and very clean. Close to Mahone Bay and Chester.
Stayed for 2 nights in a one-bedroom suite with ocean view. The view was great. The rooms are dated and need a full refurbish. It is not 4-star calibre. Washroom is small and also dated. The mattress was comfy enough but sank in the middle. There is not much more to say about the rooms - it is not worth the price paid. The pool and hot tub needs to be replaced. The mini golf needs a turf replacement. The overall location is fantastic and the nearby restaurants and scenery in Mahone Bay, Chester, and Lunenburg are awesome. The staff were very friendly though, and I think this made up for some of the amenities. I am an experienced traveller and visit the Maritimes every year - I did not feel the same comfort I usually feel. Overall, this hotel is dated and needs a full refurbish in many ways - it is very average and I did not feel the prices reflected the experience.
