My husband has spent several nights here when he just needed a base in London and for this it is good. We booked a one bed apartment for a three night stay. The accommodation was at best very basic and not as shown in the photos. The bed had a really thick duvet on it not appropriate for summer. The apartment was not particularly comfortable. The apartment was clean. This is not cheap accommodation and didn't represent good value for money. The staff were unfriendly at reception. The college is located in a leafy part of London with good communication links etc very near. The website is very confusing and it's not clear what you are getting. This accommodation is fine if you want a cheap single room but otherwise not to be recommended.
My single room was compact but had everything I needed and the separate but en suite shower room was lovely. The accommodation is situated in a quiet leafy square, even though it is conveniently close to both Euston and Kings Cross. The staff were wonderfully helpful and friendly and recommended taking the full English breakfast in the Great Hall, which was fabulous and like eating in the Great Hall at Hogwarts! I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
We used this as a place purely to sleep whilst having an appointment in London. 10 minute walk from Kings Cross. Nice location near the British Museum. We had a twin room which was a bit of an odd room as it was in a courtyard, purpose built but the floor was sloped. Bathroom small but acceptable. No air conditioning. No mirror to dry my hair. Breakfast included and thus was served at Goodenough college accommodation halls which was charming. Food just ok though, coffee was good. Would stay again but ask for a different room.
Great location and great staff. Good value. I enjoyed the simplicity of the accommodation. Everything you need, no ostentation. East central location with transport and eating as well as parks and some great little museums nearby. I’ll be back. Thanks
Amazing how tripadvisor can be wrong. Picked this hotel due to the on average good reviews. Probably it is hit or miss. In my case a miss. Checkin: chaotic check-in table. Paperwork everywhere. I was asked whether I would like an upgrade to a suite. That sounded great. Especially when you take in account the photo's on the website. However, that ended up to be a scam. After accepting the upgrade, I had to go outside, walk to the other side of the square and enter a student facility. There a guy gave me directions to the room as if I had to go and cross london by foot. Stairs down, cross a courtyard, stairs up, down, up, cross a kindergarten... No room to be found with my number. Going back to reception, received new directions involving more stairs. There is no elevator, so if you stay with this hotel, don't bring luggage or bring your own personal assistent. (NB: The hotel states everywhere they are willing to help you with your luggage, however, you don't expect to have to walk 10 stairs with your luggage when you are at reception, so before you can ask for help you are way down the expedition to your room) The room ended up to be nothing like a suite. It was a student dorm room in a basement (yes, 270 euro for a basement, upgrade "suite"). I now understood why the receptionist was repeating "it's just for one night right?". The dorm room was clean, but I pay quite an amount to not make my own bed and have a proper shower instead of something in a bath tub. So, obviously not stayed there. Upon return nobody seemed surprised. They did however accidentally charged my card twice because they had no paper in the printer of the card processing machine. Probably this hotel just tries to put people in a dorm room to save money. Apparantly my mistake to arrive in a t-shirt instead of a suit. That might have been the reason why they tried this on me and the returning gentlemen in a suit next to me at the reception desk was not given this very special upgrade... The room I received afterwards was ok. Still no elevator, but only two sairs up. That room was simple but clean. The bathroom was renovated and had a proper shower. Unfortunately the television wasn't working, had to fix the cable myself (old, broken cable) and there is no safe for valuables in the room. Not going to stay here again. If you pay a lot you don't want to spend 30 minutes walking up and down the square, up and down stairs etc. You just want a proper room.
My husband and I checked into this hotel following a long journey in need of a shower. The water was cold despite running for 10 Minutes in both the sink and shower. I called reception and was advised to run the water to which I responded we had done so. The receptionist advised they would send facilities over. We left for supper and returned at 10pm and tried the water again. It was still cold so I called reception again and was advised there was a problem with the building and they were trying to resolve the issue. I responded by saying we where unhappy and hoped the water would be hot in the morning. It wasn’t. As we left early the following morning, We raised a complaint directly to the Management by email. It took 8 days and a reminder email to get a response. It makes no sense at all. See below: How would they know that no other resident used hot water? Why would we bother to advise there was not hot water if there was? Dreadful customer service, avoid this place! Please accept my apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I have liaised with our facilities helpdesk and they have informed me that there were no problems with our boilers that weekend. They confirmed that the cold-water issue that you experienced was sadly, because no other resident used hot water during the afternoon, so it was only a matter of letting the hot water tap run for a little while for it to become warm. Again the same thing in the evening and the following morning, it was only a matter of letting the tap run before having it warm. In addition, we had no other complaints from other guests during your stay, and this only confirms that we had no issues with the hot water. I do however understand that waiting for the water to become warm is not good either, as it should be dispensed in no time really, I will make sure our facilities team check this out. For this, I am happy to offer you a 20% discount on your future stay with us. Please let me know when you wish to come back to stay with us so I can arrange for this discount to be applied. I look forward to your reply. With kind regards,
Stayed at Goodenough for 10 days were our daughter lives as a student. Exceptional service and friendly staff. Nice and clean rooms with a beautiful view of the park. Some rooms are up a steep escalator but in general are spacious and well equipped. Location is great and elegant neighborhood. Breakfast is also wonderful. Could not recommend it more.
This is more of a hostile (very expensive) than a hotel. The location is excellent, Freddie's was fun and the food is good. Our first surprise was that there are no elevators and nobody to help you with your luggage. We had to go up over 75 steps to our small room on the 3rd floor. There is no air conditioning and no fans! There are no safes s the room. If you like the area and you want to stay in a dorm room for $300 a night, this is the place for you.
Note: this review is for William Goodenough House which is student accommodation (can't find a separate entry on Tripadvisor). It's near the 'The Goodenough' 4 star hotel although I found the entrance hard to find and initially ended up at London House (since they are all on Mecklenburgh Square). The room had a nice view and was clean and extremely spacious with ample storage, an in-room safe, mini-fridge and kettle with tea/coffee facilities. The room also had an ensuite bathroom and a hairdryer. Bloomsbury is a nice area, and it was not too far from Russell Square Underground and shops. If you're up for a bit of a walk, it's 15-20mins to Kings Cross Station (I recommend going down Judd Street rather than Grays Inn Road, it takes longer but is more pleasant). As student accomodation, the room is only serviced once a week. There's no TV or body wash/shampoo/conditioner but they do provide towels. You have access to the buttery on the level (mini kitchen) and laundry facilities (although I didn't use either of them). You can pay a bit for breakfast in the main hall but I didn't try that during this stay. WiFi worked fine. The position of the bed next to the windows meant you got the sunlight very early in the morning. There seemed to be a lack of accessible powerpoints so I couldn't charge my devices and run the kettle at the same time. But, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and actually wished I'd booked the room again for the second half of my London trip.
College within walking distance from King's Cross. Beautiful building and clean rooms. A bit noisy during the night (room doors are noisy when shutting). Choose the English breakfast on the main building of the college instead of the continental one.
