Hi - booked last minute 2 night stay whilst I had 3 days of day treatment at Kings College Hospital (5 mins walk away)(but too far for me to commute) Quirky, immaculately clean, a real find here in Denmark Hill/Camberwell. I had single room with shared bathroom. All I could get last minute. Was dreading the shared bit..but at least I had my own sink. All went well. Sweet attic room, up 5 short flights stairs and facing the main road, but again, I don't expect peace in South London and guessed the singleton rooms would be in the eves. 4' wide bed, beautiful linen and towels and L'Occutaine toiletries. Organic chocs and chilli sauce (!) Honesty bar and free organic tea coffee etc, all beautifully neat and clean in The Communion Bar (!) Wacky South American Religious themed..just made me smile. So whilst I hope never to need to use this hotel again for a hospital stay, if I had to, I'd re book in an instance.
Location was great for us as my daughter just moved in around the corner - the hotel is quirky and different - in a good way:) The staff are lovely, helpful and friendly - its is a maze of different corridors and staircases but the rooms are well appointed and clean. The Latin American themed hotel is unusual and great in its design and decor. If you have any mobility issues be sure to let them know on booking as it can be a long way up and along to your room . We literally only slept there but enjoyed the lovely touches in the room L'Occitane toiletries, little bars of chocolate and a notebook and pencil with a note from the maid inside. This is not luxury but different and unusual . We had an issue with our room but it was dealt with in a pro-active way and efficiently :) We will be back :)
When I first checked in, the receptionist made a mistake and made me pay twice the whole price of the stay which I did not get the refund added to my balance yet because it is an international transaction, no breakfast, no kettle or tea in the room only in the communion room, the TV did not work properly. The toiletries were not replaced until I had to ask for it The underground is not near. At the check out I forgot the cash deposit of 20 pounds and nobody reminded me to take it. In short the worst stay.
I booked this for my daughter who had a uni interview and was going alone. Staff were really helpful prior to her arrival and even alerted me to the fact that I had mistakenly booked 2 rooms & very kindly did not charge me. If my daughter ends up at this uni then we will be using it quite regularly ! She loved her room and the hotel.
I have been working in London for the past six years, for three of those I have stayed at Church Street Hotel. I have never been disappointed, the staff are wonderful, friendly, kind and helpful. The rooms (and the whole hotel) has great style and idiosychrisy, the beds are comfortable and the rooms well equipped. The honesty bar is a great idea and it's always great to have access to fresh coffee and real milk for your cuppas. Breakfast is great. London is blooming expensive to stay in but Church Street is incredibly reasonable. I've also grown to love Camberwell, there are a number of great little bars, restaurants, take aways and cafes on the doorstep. Although not on the tube line it is well served by buses and as it is always bustling I have never felt vulnerable walking around as a woman on my own at any time. I've stayed in so many of the rooms and never been disappointed (except 6A - get rid of it guys it lets you down) all the rest are excellent.
Hotel itself is clean. Was disappointing that the Deluxe room was so small. Was woken at 6am with someone running down the stairs. Was kept up late by people walking up and down the stairs, very poor insulation. I appreciate its an old building but it was worse sound proofing than at home in my old house! Im a deep sleeper too so I know it was bad. Even more annoying too though. Check out time is 11am. At 10.45am, myself and my partenr had a cal to the bedroom hotel phone! We ignored as were having a nice chat and packing our thing s up, it was reception telling us to come and check out as its bnearly 11am!!! It was 10.45am!!! Very strange. Stayed in many hotels and never been told this before. No tea and coffee in rooms which I didnt like. Yes you can go to the bar, but i found myself creeping out in my dressing gown to get my early morning coffee. Wont recommend unless you sleep like an Elephant and dont mind being told to leave early and dont mind small rooms and not having hot drinks in your bedroom. Also they messed up our booking prior to arriving, had to phone them to tell them this and communicating was not easy.
Had a great stay at this quirky hotel in Camberwell. Staff were really helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was small on the top floor but it had everything we needed. The decor is vivid and bright but puts a smile on your face. The honesty bar was a lovely touch open 24 hours a day and enjoyed by all guests. Definitely will be going back as made a great base to explored the city.
I came across this hotel after being let down on an airbnb place and I am so glad I was!! Cannot say enough nice things, room was gorgeous, large, light, bed was so comfy, bathroom was stunning. Little extras like the sauce and chocolate made it more personal. We just loved our stay and were almost tempted to see if the room was free for a second night! Really couldn't fault it! Honesty bar was well stocked and very much appreciated! Apologies to anyone who had to see me in there looking slightly worse for wear on the Saturday morning after we were out dancing until the small hours, wasn't expecting anyone to be there when I rocked up with crazy hair! :-) All in all, the hotel made a great weekend fabulous. Definitely be back!
First impressions of this hotel was how quirky the decor was - a very Mexican feel & the reception staff were really lovely! In fact all of the hotel staff were friendly, polite and smiles! You don't get that in many hotels in London! Check-in - Friendly check in, quick too, took us to our room, showed us where the 'Honesty Bar' is and then took us to our room. We stayed in Room 4 which was just near the Honesty Bar. Very convenient. The Rooms - We had a double room with an en-suite - lovely touches included some hot sauce and 2 chocolate bars that the hotel kindly provided. The bath was spacious and shower was powerful! You also get complimentary 2 Bottles of Water & there's even a TV and DVD Player! The Honesty Bar - As you walk in to your left is the self service bar, it included FREE Tea, Fruit Teas, Coffee, Decaff Coffees, Sugar, Sweetner & even a fridge that stores Alcohol, (you pay for the alcohol and Above on shelves were Spirits, and even Pastires for £1 each! You would help yourself to any of these and just write in the book on be counter your room number and what you've had! Great service, so nice the staff trust you! In the Bar is a long table, and a couple of Sofas to relax in! To the right of the Bar is massive collection of DVDs, you pick what DVD you'd like to watch. Go down to reception with the case and they give you the DVD to watch. Our movie that we chose didn't work but we weren't fussed as we didn't come away to watch a DVD! The beds were comfortable, the only jiggle would be that we could hear the person above us as the floor creaked but it didn't last long and that isn't the hotels fault! Breakfast - This is downstairs in the old restaurant that's closed now but they still use this for breakfasts! The breakfast costs just £5 As you walk in the waitress made us a tea or coffee and then you just help yourselves to Toast, Cereals, Pastries, Ham & Cheese, plus Boiled Eggs! Location - the car park where we parked was only a 5-10 min walk and there were plenty of newsagents, restaurants and take aways near by to help ourselves We stayed here to visit Kings College Hospital which was only a 10 min walk from a hotel. If we were in this area we would definitely stay again! Check-Out - quick and easy Thank you for a lovely stay! X
Nice place, spotlessly clean bathroom and bedroom with good facilities, you don't get DVD/Bly ray or proper air con in many hotels! Honesty bar is brilliant, as is the breakfast with really high quality food on offer, no cheap rubbish. Going back next week
