Holiday Inn Express Causeway Bay Hong Kong3.5 out of 5.0

This is situated in causeway bay and very near to Times Square so there's plenty of shopping around. Reception is situated on the second floor therefore you will drag your luggage up the escalator which is a little inconvenient. Check in is fast so that's a good thing. The chair at my working desk was spoilt and I can't adjust the height to do my work comfortably. The bed was too soft for my liking and wasn't very good for my back - didn't get very good sleep. It's a average hotel at a good location but don't expect too much to the comfort.
Decided to stay near Times Square Causeway Bay and so, ended up at Holiday Inn Express CWB. Reception was efficient. Room is spacious in comparison to many other hotels in HK. Price is very reasonable considering the great location where MTR and major shopping malls such as Hysan Place, SOGO are nearby. Only disappointment is the breakfast. Wasted calories. Suggest to head to other nearby restaurants for BF instead. Will definitely be back again!
This is the 1st time I stay in this hotel with my 10yrs old daughter. The hotel staff is very helpful during my check-in (night shift). Room is fine. The hotel ground floor has a very nice budget restaurant (separate entity). Only thing is the hotel does not have a proper floor lobby for taxi. It's just a walk of 5mins away from Times Square. The nearest MTR is Causeway Bay also about 5mins walking distance.
We stayed here for 9 nights and the overall experience was quite good. This is not a luxury hotel so you can't expect the finest service nor facilities, however, it still accommodates a traveler's daily needs. Basically, it provides a place for you to eat, sleep and shower, which is more than enough when you are in Hong Kong. Such as vibrant city, and the location is superb! The hotel is located next to Times Square, 10 minutes walk to the Causeway Bay MTR station via the Times Square exit. There are so many shopping malls in Causeway Bay and the hotel is extremely convenient, with over 50 restaurants near by. I would recommend restaurants along Sharp Street or Russel Street, as they are cheap and tasty. Overall, basic hotel but superb location, exactly what you need in a city like Hong Kong. This is because we would always head out early in the morning and come back late night. So all we need is a shower and a nice sleep!
Location is excellent in causeway Bay. Room size is decent and is bigger than what I expected. Bathroom is quite a reasonable size too, unlike some HK hotels where the room could be tiny with no space to walk after you open up two luggages. No frills in the room - cotton buds, cotton pads are provided upon request. For me personally, I'm easy. However, to my friends, they felt it's too basic and they would personally not stay there again. As for me, I would recommend because 1) cost is great 2) location is awesome. Service is alright, not the best. It is comfortable and compact enough, tv in the room and there is a sofa. However, the sofa does not face the tv so it's quite pointless too. We requested for beer opener and the front desk said they don't have and never offer a solution. How can a hotel not have a beer opener? Nearby eateries - there is a handmade fishball noodle place that open till 12 midnight. Yummy. There is also a traditional kueh kind of shop next to the fish ball noodle shop. Both places must try.
This is my second time to stay in this hotel. I booked IHG YourRate offer with extra discount, wonderful. Extra bonus this time, got a handy phone free to use this time, so I could use it around with wifi hot spot, extremely convenience, told by the receptionist that all rooms got this in Aug. overall experience was good.
Well located formula hotel next to Times Square. Clean rooms, friendly reception staff. Very busy basic hotel but did the job. Breakfast not recommended as very limited choice, no buffet, very, very basic. Very limited facilities but no issue because it was a short business trip.
Location wise is very good. Less than 5mins walk to train station. A big mall just across the road. Many food around the area as well. Wifi is very bad. Speed wise is ok but the consistency of it is very bad. The signal keeps dropping off. Even with LAN cable connected to my laptop, I am still getting a very inconsistent network. Another bigger problem is their Wifi network is not secure; anyone can connect to it. A simple password access should be needed; this is very basic nowadays. Overall stay is good but not recommended for people who are planning to stay for a work trip.
It is hard to beat the location convenience - directly behind the Times Square shopping block in Causeway Bay (Causeway Bay MTR station exit A, and then go to Times Square B2 escalators). Yet that back street is the quiet side, so you won't be impacted by the often late-night craziness of Times Square. Go up one flight of escalator to reach the front desk reception. The banks of elevators directly opposite the front desk are initially confusing - the left side elevators only service the lower floors with retail restaurants; then the right side elevators service the guest rooms. Good soundproofing - at least I couldn't hear anything on the higher floors. The standard in-room WiFi router is horrendous - it really needs to be replaced, as it only offers spotty, continual on/off internet access. The hotel's solution to this concern is to provide the requesting guest a smartphone that serves as a WiFi hotspot. This solution is excellent, and there were no more internet access concerns after adopting this method. But, you need to sign an agreement to pay 2000HKD if you don't return the smartphone in good working condition. I knocked my review from Very Good to Good just for this - I shouldn't be asked to sign a liability document just to get a working hotspot; I wouldn't need the smartphone if their in-room WiFi router worked properly. The hotel's breakfast is provided at the third-party Starz Kitchen (just next to the front desk reception). You get a voucher coupon that you must present, and you get to choose from 5 breakfast sets - everything from vegetarian to western breakfast to congee to noodles. The fried noodles with beef ball set and the shredded pork/egg congee with rice roll set are quite good. All sets come with juice and coffee/tea. Be prepared to share a table with other hotel guests during peak times. Service is spotty in this place, but patience will get you through each morning. Be advised that they only start breakfast at 7am, not earlier. This hotel unfortunately doesn't offer a fitness center; not even a small gym room. So you will need to go elsewhere to get your exercise. One place I can recommend is Fitness First - in walking distance at the Tower 535 Jaffe Road 7th floor. Although a pricey 300HKD per visit, if you are able to afford this you will find a quality fitness center that will provide you free weights, circuit weights, treadmills, other exercise equipment, classes, trainers. You also are provided workout shirt/shorts, towels and locker included in the fee. For the shower, you are provided an all-purpose cleanser/shampoo; no conditioner. Also, be prepared for never-truly-hot water. It was definitely fine for taking a warm shower (no complaints) but if you like a really hot one you will be disappointed. The A/C in the room worked fine; really a more important aspect for those hot humid Hong Kong days. To sum up, a good, affordable place to stay that is quiet, no frills, and unbeatable convenience to shops/restaurants/entertainment/MTR transportation.
The main thing that I like about the hotel is the location. Near the shopping areas and MTR but other than that, it's not notable. First, the room feels old and musty. I feel that it needs to be cleaned better. Wi-fi connection is terrible as well. Breakfast selection is not great and service in the restaurant is just terrible.
