Internet didn't work well, the reception looks a bit like a mess
Hotel is clean, staff is nice, but it's actually a YWCA which has been renovated/renamed. Not really a good location. There are no services around, and lack of convenience (thankfully a supermarket is next door.). Really it's in a high income residential area and not the downtown area. You have to take a cab to get to central area, which isn't expensive, but if you try to walk through the rundown zoo nearrby, which made downtown inaccessible due to poor city planning. The hotel is actually a YWCA which has been renamed with decent but uninspiring accommodations. It's nowhere near a 4 star - more like a 3.5
I love the view! My room is on the thirteenth floor, the view was very nice. I like the location as well, it's kind of quiet, although the flip side of it is that it's a bit far from the center of the actions. Staff were great!
excellent room view over zoo and botanic garden, it will e nicer to have taxi calling service in addition to private car service
i stayed 3 nights. The room was small but clean and had a great view! The location was little bit away from downtown, but It has a bus stop just right in front hotel, no problem to reach there. Above all this is a few hotel which has a good pool at this price.
Really great hotel for a great price. Only concern is that it's high up on the hill, so you'll need to be okay with a bit of walking (or plan on taking cabs to/from the hotel).
Comfortable and good sized room for the price in HK with great views, a quick elevator and swell exercise room.
This was a repeat visit. We love the location, opposite a lovely garden in the midst of a bustling city. We were disappointed that breakfast was not included, as the price was not an exceptional bargain for a 4* hotel. Also, there is a pretty hefty charge for wifi in the room, although it is free in the very small lobby. We would urge the management to make this service available free to all guests. We will return.
Hotel room is decent size with good housekeeping. Need to take taxi to get to the hotel or bus 12A from train station. Excellent Staff no problem dealing with them, was able to check in very early around 10 AM. NO FREE WIFi IN ROOM, only in the lobby. Its a good stay but I need FREE WIFI in room, its 2015!
Hotel itself is excellent. Staff are helpful with outstanding customer service. Housekeeping is great. Have to take bus 12A to go to central or admiralty MTR. You can also walk for about 15 min from central to hotel but its uphill. Close to peak tram terminal. The only NEGATIVE comment I have is "NO FREE WIFI" in the room. They charge 100 HKD per day if you want one. But free WIFI in the lobby so its a hassle if you want to use the internet. They don't want to use meter so beware. Overall its a good hotel.
First off. This place is likely a 10-15 minute walk from the Mid-Levels/Stanley good local HK eats cuisine and Lan Kwai Fong. It's also a good 5-7 minute walk away from the Peak Tram Entrance. However, there are many looping roads making it hard to access the hotel. Learning the shortcuts might take a day or two. Good - 1) Great comfy room 2) Great A/C 3) Nice supermarket and local delis nearby 4) I didn't mind the uphill walk to the hotel though most did 5) Free lobby internet was great...when it did work! Bad - 1) Lobby Internet had slowdowns when I had to answer quite a few work/grad-school emails 2) I paid 12-13 USD for one day's worth of in-room wifi. It didn't work too well. I did however get a refund for it at check out. 3) A bit far off in regards to confusing routes to all the good HK Island commercial activity 4) Room was very clean, but there were some unusual wall stains near the mini-fridge/entrance. 5) Bathroom was clean, but peripheral areas around the bathtub could have been scrubbed a bit more. These are easy things that should be picked up on. 6) Not close enough to internet cafés. Bottom Line: With regards to solely a leisure-based vacation, I would stay here again. I was in a unique dilemma of having work while on a 3 day leisure stop in HK not to mention important graduate school deadlines that require consistent internet connection. Sporadic internet & lack of internet cafés nearby (or in HK altogether) put me in a bad situation however.
The Hotel is next to the zoo a bit uphill. The rooms are great, clean and overall the hotel is a great value for money
The location is decent - about a 10-15 minute walk to Central (downhill there and uphill the way back). \ I requested a queen bed and was given 2 twin/single beds. I asked if I could switch room the following night of my 4 night stay and was asked to inquire tomorrow but that no guarantee would be made nor arrangements made to help expedite my move. During my stay i asked where I could find good Schezuan /Sichuan food in Hong Kong and the staff had no idea what I was talking about even after they asked me to write it out and also after they googled the word. No Schezuan food in China? Really? On checkout I asked the hotel to call me a cab and they responded that they couldn't and that I should just wait outside. Overall: Totally terrible service but decent location and value for money.
Friendly staff, great location, EXCEPT that it's STRAIGHT up hill! (Only 10-15 minutes from many attractions including Central MTR) The hill is very steep though, so I recommend bus 12A. The price makes it worth it.
This was our first time in HOng Kong -- the hotel had been recommended to us by friends who travel very frequently to HK. The location is good -- across the street from the zoo which is pleasant, a reasonable walking distance to the escalators, and a relatively cheap taxi ride to downtown. The staff was quite nice and we lucked out being allowed to check in to our room in mid-morning after our 11+ hour flight from San Francisco. The room was reasonable in size (relative to European rooms) and quite quiet. We ate two dinners in the restaurant -- one good and one fairly bad --- I think one can do far better at other places. Overall, we were quite pleased iwht the hotel and would use it again.
This place is a good and simple 3-star hotel. The good: Decent proximity to Central HK. Super friendly staff. Clean, comfortable rooms. Affordable compared to other hotels. Nice view from some rooms. Good grocery next door. Park across the street. The bad: The 800m walk from the metro station at Central or Admiralty becomes pretty unpleasant when you are going uphill to the hotel in hot humid weather along confusing pathways and busy car streets. You might become reliant on taxis, which luckily are plentiful and affordable. The bathrooms, though clean and functional, are a bit outdated. The in-room internet is not free. I solved this by buying a SIM card for my phone from 7-11. There is a sign that says "no guests allowed in your room after 11:30 p.m.". I guess this is to discourage 'immoral' behavior but it seems they have no way of enforcing this. Overall: yes, recommended if you want a pretty nice place on a budget. I'd happily stay there again.
Small but clean. The room was bigger than expected (keeping in mind this is HK, I've seen even tinier rooms for much more money), bright with lots of windows. Excellent location -- close to Central and Admiralty, a quick walk to Hong Kong Park and rightnextto the Zoological and Botanical Gardens. There is a Fusion supermarket in the adjacent building so can very conveniently buy groceries, toiletries at local prices. Also, lots of taxis on this street as well as two bus lines that run very frequently. The duvet here gets special mention for being super soft and comfortable. Yes, this place is basic but it's comfortable, safe, clean, and has helpful staff and free wifi in the lobby.
Great Hotel for the Value- Four Star Plus Hotel Arrived early , security manager arranged for us to leave luggage. luggage was later brought to our rooms. All the staff was very helpful, Nice rooms with great views , excellent beds and remodeled bathrooms . 20 minute walk to MTR . Close to Victoria Peak Tram. Hotel is on a steep hill, take a Taxi to Central Station about $5 US dollars, from there you can take MTR anywhere including the HK airport. Across Central Station is the IFC shopping center. Ferries are across the street from the IFC Mall. When you arrive in HK take Airport Express to Central Station, then take a Taxi to the Hotel. Tip: You can check in your luggages at Central Station, they are transferred to your flight. Then take the Airport Express to the HK Airport and travel 24 minutes to the airport.
My stay was quite pleasant at this hotel. No frills, but my room was a standard size and just right for a solo traveler. My bed was very comfortable and view was okay. And I was near to the elevator, but it was still quiet. The staff was good, not overly friendly but helpful. Supplied me with an outlet converter upon request. The location for me was great. Nice supermarket just behind to get room snacks. Not a lot of activity, like bars and FF restaurants just out of the door but very near to Hong Park which was beautiful. There's a bird sanctuary and lots of greenery. It's also near to the Peak tram by walk. The bus stop to the Central area of town is just out of the door near the gas station. But you can also walk and discover interesting sites along the way. Walking can be tricky, (negotiating the route to Central) but in the day it's okay. When all else fails grab a taxi. Fare is cheap! My disappointments: No free Wi-Fi in the rooms. It's not readily posted but there is info on the desk indicating the terms. Really a bummer to have to sit in the lobby to use the laptop making Skype calls. No Bell Hop. I really didn't need one. if you are planning a long stay maybe you just have to ask and they will send someone out.
The best thing about the hotel is the location. It's close to the Tram, Zoo and old British colonial buildings. I keep going back because it is so central.
