Sofitel Frankfurt Opera5.0 out of 5.0

My favourite place to stay in Frankfurt when not on a budget! This hotel has a beautiful bar and restaurant and the most deligent staff and service. I'm particularly fond of the scented tabs you can add to your shower in the suite. Excellent.
Very good location, good restaurant, well appointed and good size room, efficient service, access to a proper swimming pool (albeit shared with a fitness club), modern building, pleasant atmosphere, small rooftop terrace with a bar (in case the weather is nice).
This is our first stay at this establishment after visiting Frankfurt many times. We usually stay at Jumeriah, but had decided to stay at Sofitel for a change. And it was the right and great choice. The location is great and the surrounding is quiet. Shopping and restaurants are within walking distances.
We booked a junior suite and with the booking through AE Centirion, we got upgraded to an opera suite which is nicely decorated and spacious. The front desk, housekeeping and concierge are all very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good but unfortunately there was no all day dining restaurant in the hotel. Hence, when we wanted a bite in off meal hours, we can only order room service from a menu with very limited selection. The gym was quite small but they do have a sizeable lap pool with decent sauna and steam facilities.
Since I do regular swimming workouts several times a week, it has always been a challenge when travelling to continue my training. One needs to find a public pool and then you need to navigate around playing kids and leisure swimmers, very difficult. So at this Sofitel, you have access to a proper 25 m pool with lanes that is shared with a fitness club next door. The pool was great as I could do some training and in mid-morning it was not so busy. So for all the swimmers out there, this is the place to stay in Frankfurt. The hotel as many have noted is very well located, and the rooms are luxurious and quiet. I think a few things could be improved: - I did the online check-in, provided my credit card number and saw that the hotel took a 200 EUR hold payment on my credit card. Well believe it or not when checking in they asked again for my credit car number and typed it in, even if they already had the number and charged the card. A minor thing but annoying, please align your check-in procedure with the online check-in; - I also found the breakfast below what I am used at Sofitel and Pullmann as there was for example no omelet counter and it was a bit heavy on local sausages. But this is for sure a great place to stay, especially with the pool.
The rooms are absolutely gorgeous and modern, and I would definitely come back, but it does not live up to five stars: - The first room (junior suite) had no power on any of the outlets. The service was very friendly and tried to fix the problem, but in the end I had to move to a different room. Unfortunately, not pleasant to have this happen at 11:30pm after a long flight from the US when I just wanted to relax - The hotel offers shoe shine service by putting shoes out in front of the room by 2am. I did that, and had placed the shoes to the right of my door. In the morning, I was excited to find the shoe box right in front of my door, so somebody had definitely moved them - the only problem was that the shoes had not been cleaned. - The air conditioning system is just confusing. It has a setting to increase the temperature and I set it to 22 Celsius which I usually do at night, but in the morning, for whatever reason the temperature was set to 27 degrees and the blower woke me up. - Hard to understand why the hotel does not even serve a coffee or espresso in the lobby. The receptionist kindly prepared one for me after I asked for it, but it was probably from an employee machine and it was cold. These are all minor nuisances, but when you pay 450 Euros for one night in a hotel, you expect five stars.
Been to several Sofitel hotels before and I am very disapointed in the service we got here. Or lack thereof. First, as an Accord Gold Member we were not offered welcome drinks. When I asked the desk clerk later, she gave me the vouchers. We booked an arrangement with champagne, that was not delivered at the agreed upon hour, I had to call reception to remind them. Had to call 2 times as the first time there was no answer. At breakfast we were assigned a table, then we were told we had to move as someone else would arrive later and was promised the table. So we had to do the walk of shame. The waiter later appologized but my stay was really less than enjoyable. Never again.
Enroute from Berlin to Frankfurt, we had plenty of time on our train to use the online check in for the hotel, which we thought was great. Upon arrival, the room was ready but unfortunately, not with the correct bedding. We changed the room, so that was alright. Also, the system did not pick up the online check in so all pre-populated data wasn’t captured at check in, even if I could prove with print screen (and confirmation message) that I had completed the process. It was a short stay. The hotel’s location was EXCELLENT so that was probably why we didn’t mind so much that the TV did not work. Was not bothered with getting repairs done as we had our iPads and Netflix. Did leave a note to indicate that the TV didn’t work. The in room coffee was great, room was comfy and spacious. Was alright.
We stayed here for 3 nights. The location is couldn't be better, right near the Old Opera House. Easy walk to dining, shopping and Old Town. Super clean rooms with very comfortable beds and great butler service to meet your needs. We liked the secure elevators operated with your room key. Front desk staff were not as welcoming or helpful as they could have been. Our room had a leaky bathroom ceiling on the last nite we stayed and we had to have a garbage can to collect the dripping water and one bedside lamp did not work. Overall would definitely recommend this to others.
We have just spent 3 nights in this newly opened hotel in the very heart of Frankfurt. The location is amazing and can’t be better - just across the Old Opera House and walking distance to both business and historical area, let alone shopping and dining. The hotel design is stylish and elegant, with arty touches throughout the hotel (photographs, paintings, modern furniture....). There is a beautiful lobby, an award-winning restaurant Schönemann, the petite stylish Lily bar and the trendy terrace bar upstairs in summer with the views over the Frankfurt skyline and the Opera (not to be missed!!). Our room was absolutely stunning, elegantly decorated and intelligently planned, with the comfortable seating area and working desk. We enjoyed the most comfortable bed, Hermès bathroom amenities, coffee machine, tea upon turndown and high-quality bottled water in the room (all complimentary). There was a yearly booklet for Opera House Season in the room, as well as The Little Prince book to take with you (in English and German), which was a very nice touch and was appreciated by our sons. Public areas and our room were immaculately clean and well-organized. The breakfast buffet is served in a beautiful dining room with the views over the Opera House and the Square. Breakfast offers the choice of hot dishes and a sumptuous buffet (including healthy options like detox smoothie, avocado, cured salmon, but also some German classics like pretzel and Weißwurst). As well the daily choice of international newspapers is available at the breakfast and in the lobby. Reception, bellboys, concierge, breakfast staff - everybody is very friendly and provided us with the efficient service. It is a wonderful hotel and can only be highly recommended for anybody visiting Frankfurt!!
