During holiday travels this was a good choice ideal hotel to stay at while visiting family and friends. Very quiet location suited near many amenities especially fits well during Xmas holiday!! Really enjoyed stress free.
I will forever refuse to tie the word "America" at the end of an Extended Stay ever again. This chain and their hotels are garbage. I reserved my stay at this hotel online only to be told at the front desk that the hotel was overbooked by 3. The front desk tells me that Extended Stay is "allowed" to overbook by 3. I was 1 of those 3 and was sent 11 miles to find another one of these garbage hotels to sleep at. If the guest cancellation policy is by 6pm the day of check-in, shouldn't the hotel abide by the same rules? Shouldn't I, the guest, be alerted that my bed has been given away? This hotel and their overbooking policy is absolute garbage.
This is an older hotel that could use some sprucing up. The nicotine brown interior paint is off putting although there was no evidence of smoking. Hint: If you reserve through University of Michigan medical people you can save 50%.
Staff was slow, as though I was taking up their time asking them questions or checking in. The room smelled like curry and smoke. The ventilation was shut off. The bathroom had no exhaust. The grab and go breakfast was grabed before 7am, only granola bars left after that.
The room was adequate and relatively clean. Customer service is very poor. When I arrived, an attendant was not readily available and I was asked to wait (there was no line and didn't appear to be a good reason for the wait). I always made it a point to greet the staff each day with a hello and a smile, and rarely was that reciprocated. What caused me to about lose my temper was checkout. I waited over 20 minutes before any attendant even acknowledged me - and the question I got from the attendant was "Do you need something?". Yes - clearly I did because I had been waiting for almost 20 minutes. I know things happen that might require a customer to wait and be patient - but to not acknowledge the wait with an apology and speak as if I am the inconvenience is unacceptable. I paid $45/night for 5 nights through Priceline, so I guess I shouldn't expect Mariott hospitality for that price. However, I have stayed at the other Extended Stay a few blocks away and was treated far better. So if hospitality means something to you in a hospitality industry, I recommend paying a few extra dollars and going to the other Extended Stay on Orchard Place.
The beds were hard, they had stains on the bedding, there was sticky stuff in the drawers, the room had an odor of must and air freshener, the bathroom sink drained really slow, no one told us we had to order cups, plates etc, tiles missing feom the floor in the back entryway. Overall bad stay and would not stay there again.
But that's about it. I would not extend my stay at this Extended Stay. Your basic hotel, no frills. Somewhat clean, but I'm not 100% sold on the security of this place. Front desk person was gracious, and the neighborhood was okay.
Place was okay. Beds not comfortable but clean. The location was excellent and the price was very good. They only had single beds available so we had to use an uncomfortable roll up for one of our kids.
The front desk manager was friendly, helpful and service oriented, but this is a very poor value for the rates they charge. The property needs new carpets, better lighting, a proper breakfast service...and so on, before it can be lived in on "extended stays".
The location and price we're good, the staff was helpful overall. But the smell of the room was awful. There were two plug-in air fresheners to try to mask it, but that only compounded the problem. I also thought it was odd that there was no mattress pad on my bed – just a bottom sheet on top of the mattress.
