After living in the Charleston area for 12 years we moved away and came back in town to visit family. I am stating this because we were well aware of a very unfortunate incident that happened at this hotel a few years back. We decided that we would try this hotel anyways because it had been several years and they probably were extra careful because of their history. We arrived on Thanksgiving Eve which was an extremely slow evening for them. When the elevator door opened to the second floor where our room was located, we smelled natural gas. We walked to our room down the hall getting faint smells of gas throughout the hall. We went downstairs and told the young desk clerk. She called the maintenance man and he had her go smell. She went and smelled while we waited downstairs. She said there was some sort of smell, but didn't think it was gas. Over the phone the maintenance man said that it was probably sewer smell since the hotel had a low vacancy that evening and he would not come check it out. We have done many construction projects having smelled both sewage and gas leaks. It was not sewer. It was gas. We had to check out and find another hotel in order to assure our safety. Shameful the way this was not handled. I assume because it was Thanksgiving Eve.
We stayed one night. When we entered the hotel we were greeted with a smile. We found the staff helpful and friendly, but unfortunately the good comments end there for us. Our room was adequately clean but that's about it. I would say that this hotel is in great need of a remodel. The bathroom was clean but had been in use for so long some things like the shower can't look very clean again. We had sometime and decided to check the pool out and but were soon disappointed. It was dark and cold....it smelled clean but didn't look it. Once we tried to get some sleep we found that the walls were very thin and we could hear every part of the loud conversations that were going on next door. The noise levels continued to rise into the early morning and we did call down and politely ask if anything could be done and I can assume they called the room because things quickly quieted down. We will avoid this hotel when in the area again.
Stopped here late at night hoping to get a good nights sleep but the bed was very uncomfortable. Breakfast was okay, coffee really bad and cold. Manager was friendly. Shower was hot and good shower head.
I stay here quiet often and have stayed at a lot of different hotels in different places. This hotel is a nice place to stay overnight or an extended stay. The only bad thing about this hotel is the WiFi is useless. The signal is great but they limit you to 2mbps which will not even stream 1080p video without constantly buffering and causes me to completely rely on my cellular data. The limit should be atleast 5mbps what were you thinking Holiday Inn Express tech guy!?
The hotel staff was outstanding in every way! Cindy, Sam and Will were unbelievably helpful and pleasant! Always with a smile and a helping hand! The hotel lobby, meeting rooms and individual sleeping rooms were kept very clean and tidy
Enjoyed my stay at this little gem of a Holiday Inn Express. Greeted warmly, retired to a clean room and lovely rest. Gorgeous pool area and waters. Easy access to rooms from either parking lot and many shops close by.
Good hotel, with average cleanliness and the standard Holiday Inn Express breakfast (which includes those hot cinnamon rolls!). Nothing unexpected about the hotel. It has free wifi. It is near shopping and chain restaurants at two nearby malls (one right next door and the other just a mile or so farther away from Charleston), but instead of going to those, if you have the time, drive downtown for dinner and visit the capitol building.
I was here for business. Staff who checked me in were friendly and very helpful. The room was large, and I appreciated having breakfast included; I'm not used to that at HIX's. Also nice to see an indoor, although I didn't use it. Location is near numerous restaurants and small shopping malls.
Clean and comfortable rooms. It's a little out of our way but glad we stayed there. Lots of nearby shopping and restaurants. The amenities we did mot utilize. We more or less crashed as soon as we got in the room. Breakfast bar a definite plus.
Compared to the night before, this was spectacular. Big rooms. A clerk that asked about our trip and gave recommendations. All in all, I was very satisfied and would not hesitate to stay here again. However, there were problems that could not be ignored. First, our party of 3 only got 2 sets of towels. They corrected it both nights. But, it was BOTH nights. If there were 3 dirty sets and the guests didn't leave, why would you only leave 2 sets? Also, there was not a fan in the bathroom. And the pancake maker was broken the last morning. Finally, the elevator rocked a bit much for me to feel totally secure on it. However, all of this to say it wasn't perfect, but the good far outweighed the bad. Good breakfast. Spacious dining area. Plenty of room to stretch out in the bedroom and a roomy bathroom. VERY close to food and shopping. (Ryan's buffet is next door and TGI Friday's is a close walk).
