Hotel staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. Beach was so close it was worth every penny we spent. Rooms were nothing fancy, we had the 2 room suite. TV wasn't hi def and only had 10 channels but with a pool and the ocean who needs TV anyway. Would definitely go back.
My husband and I stayed one night two weeks ago in what they called a studio, which was a big room with a little kitchen counter, fridge, coffee maker and microwave. The bed was a full size so not the greatest when you're used to a queen or king, but the room was clean. We had a little porch and we were steps from the pool and the beach. The staff was very friendly and they have a great pool and a restaurant that makes good rocket fuels. Great if you don't feel like leaving the premises. We will definitely stay again.
We were there for this weekend. The beach of nice. But hardly any restrooms or places to shower. My kids and I had to walk and back and forth. Suggestions: bring your extra towels. Extra water. Extra bags/beach chairs. And everything else you can think of.
I had to write a review bc I think people expect the 4 seasons! It is well worth the money. I consider myself to be pretty picky and this hotel never disappointed me. So many bad reviews. The food is excellent at Hurricanes and the staff there is amazing as in the whole hotel. The beach is footsteps away. I think it’s the only hotel w an I ground pool which was super clean and not overcrowded like some said. Come on people. What can you expect if it’s summertime in New York? We only get 2 months so of course it may get crowded. People were actually watching the small amount of kids we did see. Not like pricey resorts in other states where kids go crazy w no parents in sight. Our room was a suite. Super clean. Not brand new not super cheap but really?! You’re on the beach on fire island in the summer!! I’m actually surprised they don’t charge more!!! Will definitely be back. Don’t listen to the negative comments!
For the price, compared to other locations on Fire Island, this hotel fit the bill for our 2 day stay. The room was very small, but it was clean. The pool was clean and the staff were attentive and courteous. The hotel is located on the beach and access is easy and a short distance away. The resort is within walking distance to the other small villages.
Do not stay here! !!!!!!!!! Way overcharged for price of 500 a night...A total RIPP OFF!!! The room was disgusting. the floors were warped full of sand. The bathroom lights didn't work. the tv cable was pulled out of the wall and broken. the lights didn't work. walls were buckled. service and staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. the pool was filthy and full of sand and looked as if it wasn't cleaned or vacuumed.. Outlets were broken ..No fan in bathroom and couldn't plug anything in ...the Dock leading to the beach was falling apart and in disarray..The pool chairs looked as if they were cleaned once a week..not even...would never stay here again...!!!! WE got a ocean view room and paid for that and got a view of houses and pivot and shrubs...no ocean views at all !
Terrible hotel. August 10-12 2018, we booked room D and Room 39 for a bachelorette party. Right away we had issues as the outlets in 39 were not working. We had to unplug the TV in order to charge our phones. There were no tissues, no hand towels and few bath towels. No phones in the room so if you needed anything you had to walk to the front desk. On Saturday the 11th we returned to room 39 around 4 to find our sink filled to the top with sewage and a plunger on the sink. Housekeeping had just left it with no sign of returning. When we approached the front desk they gave us attitude and accused us of pouring coffee grinds down the sink. We dont even have a coffee pot in our room nor even spent enough time in the room to drink coffee. The woman at the desk was very reluctant to believe that the pipes had backed up, stating that in her 5 years of being there this has never happened. We were appalled that she would think that our group would be so disrespectful... enough to commit vandalism. She stated that throwing coffee grinds down the drain didnt actually shock her because plenty of scumbags do stay at the hotel. We asked her why it wasn't cleaned up yet. She said she told her staff not to clean it because we were the ones responsible. We were so disgusted by the fact that she was just letting sewage sit in our room. She said that her maintenance guy wasn't on that day and that her bell boy would have to clean it. Poor kid had to use ice cream tubs to scoop it out. She wanted to charge us a housekeeping fee but after much discussion we were given a 3rd room. The 3rd room was spacious but had a broken fan with exposed wires, a rusty fridge and plenty of stains on the floor. However, having a room with no working water and a sink that continues to overflow even after the boy had cleaned it, no discount was given. Meanwhile, back in room D, the shower didnt drain so you were bathing in 5 or 6 inches of water (yet this woman was so surprised to see the sink back up). We found the staff to handle this situation very poorly. The bell boys were great but we could not believe the attitude and lack of cooperation from the front desk. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. We had a great time this past weekend but unfortunately would say the hotel was the worst/most difficult part of it.
Where do I start based on the $300 nightly rate. Upon check-in, the room reserved per the pictures is not the room we were put in, hasn't been renovated since it was built. The couch was covered in sand, the carpet was dirty/stained, the toilet lid was broken, the dishwasher needed the seal replaced, the windows wouldn't completely close and there was no air conditioning in the bedroom and the 1 in the kitchen barely worked. There were no extra sheets in the room for the fold out bed, had to inquire 3 times, asked if they had mosquito repellent to apply, was given Raid, the towels are thin/dingy white and the room WiFi doesn't work, but the ladies at the front desk could care less because it is working in the lobby. Skippy went above and beyond, confirming that coverage wasn't available in the room but could not find a booster. The pool deck appears as it does in the photos but the photos do not show the ripped (patched with duct tape) and faded liner and sand coated bottom (at 8 a.m.) from lack of maintenance. For some reason, even though this is a called a "resort", the pool closes at sunset, doesn't matter how many people are enjoying themselves. Other than these items, would not recommend to my worst enemy and definitely not to my best friend. This resorts is only in business because there are limited hotels on Fire Island, but recommend either skipping Fire Island or go to another location to prevent having to stay at this below par "trailer park" - nothing about this location is a resort and hotel isn't really accurate either. We asked to speak to the manager, Pat, several times and was told that she was not available or would be in touch, but never received any follow-up. Based on an interaction with Bailey, it appears that below par services, lack of internet, lack of follow through are consistent and the staff does their best job to either downplay the issue, deny there is an issue or indicate they are "acting under the direction of management" but with no management on staff.
This was our third year returning to this hotel and we stayed in the cottage. The first 2 years we loved it, however not as happy with our cottage. We asked for sheets for the pull out couch and a blanket, they gave us a duvet cover for the sheets but the blanket was very comfortable. We bought ice and put it in the freezer and it melted and leaked because it was not working. We had to ask for towels, a sponge, dish detergent and really if you supply a dishwasher they should supply a little bit of detergent for that too. I then asked for tissues and they said the hotel does not supply them. Our place had to be vacuumed because when we arrived it was not. The bar is excellent and the beach is beautiful but we just wished our cottage was clean and was adequately supplied for our needs.
Enjoyed yet another fantastic visit to Fire Island Hotel. This time with another family and kids (6, 11, 12, 15, 16) in tow. Boys brought their bikes and loved the freedom of riding around the island when they needed a break from the beach. The convenience of the pool and bar/restaurant on premises is priceless. A quick walk or water taxi to Ocean Beach for shopping, restaurants, ice cream, etc. Place was immaculate, as always. Something new every time I'm there. Had an issue with our air conditioner which was handled in 15 minutes. Couldn't fix it so they replaced it! Thanks Pat!! I love this place and wouldn't stay anywhere else. Now I get to go back this week for my 10th year with my friends. Have made the best memories there!
