I really enjoyed my room at this inn. They gave us an upgrade so we were in a small suite with a kitchen, a living room, and a bathroom with a claw-foot tub. The hotel is historic and charming, so your expectations of a room here should be aligned with that. It’s not a brand new chain hotel with the latest decorating trends, it’s a charming older property with the types of quirks you would expect from something this age. I thought the breakfasts were excellent and it felt like a bed-and-breakfast from that aspect. It’s really close to downtown, but we ended up driving in most days instead of walking. You could definitely walk it though. Access to the Blue Ridge Parkway was very close by, too. Parking is plentiful here, and free. There was a lot in the back with and more parking on the street. I would definitely come back here. I think it’s an ideal place for a couple or a girls weekend.

Lovely
Good service and really fantastic breakfasts. They also do a nightly wine and hors d'oeuvres service which we appreciated greatly.

Lovely place. Just bring your own towels.
The location in itself is lovely. The building is beautiful and clean. The folks working at the location are lovely. The breakfast was delicious (and I’m picky!) You will have to drive or Uber downtown, otherwise it’s a 30-45 minute walk depending on where you’re going. It’s also not the most pleasant walk as you would have to cross busy, multi lane roads to get to downtown. It’s important to mention that there is a bakery, deli, and some other shop just a block or so away Incase downtown isn’t your thing and you’re looking for something quick, there are options. The neighborhood is quiet and I felt safe walking around. I My only complaints are the following. The bed sunk in the middle, making it not the most comfortable. We were on the second floor and you could loudly hear every footstep the people above you took. (If you stay here just cross your finger the people above you are late sleepers, you’re early risers, or you bring ear plugs, which the hotel provides.) Next, all of the towels strongly smelt like mildew. Even after replacing them the next day, they still smelt terrible. Finally, in our bathroom, there was a rather large area of ceiling above the toilet the has bubbled from moisture. And can you guess what was around it? You got it, black mold. Overall, I would stay again but only if I were on a top floor and brought my own towels.
