Two major airports serve Washington, DC. Dulles International Airport is located in Sterling, Virginia, just twenty-seven miles west of the downtown area. The Reagan National Airport is situated across the Potomac, just five miles south of the city’s center. Both airports offer daily and economy parking with rates ranging from $10 to $20 per day. Taxi service to the airports is available should you choose not to drive. Expect the rates to be roughly $55 to $65 to get to Dulles and $15 to $25 to Reagan.
Your flight will land at the Detroit Metro Airport, located twenty-two miles southwest of downtown Detroit with easy access via I-94. Summers in Detroit are warm, with temperatures that usually hover in the mid-80s. Nights can be cool, so pack a light sweater. Detroit winters can be harsh. The city usually gets three to four feet of snow on average over the season, and temperatures can dip into the teens, making a warm parka and other cold-weather gear a must. Late summer and early fall are the best times to visit Detroit. In addition to enjoying the warm weather, you can experience some of the city’s popular events, such as the Woodward Dream Cruise in August or the Detroit International Jazz Festival, which is held each Labor Day weekend. Sports enthusiasts should make time to catch a Red Wings, Lions, or Tigers game while in the city. Other popular attractions include Belle Isle, the Motown Historical Museum, and the bustling Greektown neighborhood.
Detroit has suffered its fair share of setbacks over the years, but the city is springing back with eclectic neighborhoods, historic attractions, and a diverse mix of restaurants, shops, museums, and art galleries. All you need to do to get started on your trip is visit Orbitz.com, where you’ll be able to compare available flights from Washington, DC, to Detroit and complete the rest of your travel arrangements quickly and easily.
