Traveling from Los Angeles to Cancun

The sunny shores of Mexico beckon thousands of travelers each year. Orbitz.com can help you find affordable flights from Los Angeles to Cancun. Enjoy sea, sand and exotic fare with a fun, affordable trip to the south.

Navigating Los Angeles Airport

LAX is the third busiest airport in the United States and serves approximately 62 million passengers each year. It's serviced by more than 60 airlines, including United, American, Lufthansa and Qantas. Just 16 miles from downtown, it's easily accessible by public bus and the metro shuttle. The airport-provided FlyAway Bus costs $7 for a one-way trip from Union Station, located downtown. Taxis also give rides from downtown to the airport for approximately $42, or $48 with a tip included.

Parking at LAX costs $30 per day or $12 per day in the economy lots. Electric cars receive up to 30 days of free parking in the charging stations located in Lot 1 and 6. Dozens of eateries, from snack counters like Hagen Daas to full-service restaurants like Encounters, give you plenty of options to catch a meal before your flight.

Arriving in Cancun, Mexico

Step straight off your flight and head to Cancun's famous turquoise waters found along the northern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. Get a taste of the jungle and coral reef, explore the area's rich Mayan past, and enjoy Cancun's fun and active resort lifestyle.

Exploring Cancun's Sites

The Cancun International Airport is just 25 minutes from downtown. All hired cars, shuttles and taxis must be prearranged. Additionally, you can rent a car through Thrifty, Hertz, Dollar or Budget car rental companies or take a bus to downtown Cancun for just $4 per person.

Some of the most popular activities in Cancun are snorkeling, jungle tours and touring Mayan sites. Hurricane season, lasting from June to mid-October, offers up turbulent weather and sweltering heat that makes sightseeing difficult. With weather hovering in the mid-80s and rarely dropping lower than 65°F, the months from December to April are typically the best times to visit.

Visit the world's only all-natural aquarium, Xel-Ha, snorkel along one of the world's largest coral reefs and only underwater art museum or explore Rio Secreto, an awe-inspiring maze of cave and whispering water. Tour the jungle on horseback, boat or Hummer, and visit the monuments and city remnants left behind by the Mayan civilization. Regular cruises and package tours bundle adventure and leisure activities with fine Riviera cuisine. However, much of your time may be spent relaxing at your resort hotel, sipping drinks by the poolside or taking in a few rounds of golf.
