New York, New York

New York offers two airports that handle flights to Cancun: John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport. Nonstop flights are available through United Airlines, American Airlines, and JetBlue Airways, while other airlines offer connecting flights.

Restaurants at the John F. Kennedy International Airport include KFC Express, Peet's Coffee & Tea, Z-Pizza, Sbarro, and dozens of other fast-food and sit-down eateries.

You can park your car at the long-term economy lots on-site, which charge just $18 per day. Depending on your situation, you might find it easier to take the subway, AirTran, or a taxi to the airport.

LaGuardia Airport offers the same transportation options for travelers, but you might find that taxis are slightly less expensive because of the distance to the airport. Parking at LaGuardia is also more expensive because you pay $33 per day for the first two days and $18 for every day after. Like JFK, the airport offers a few dining options, like Au Bon Pain, Metro Burger, and Dunkin' Donuts.

Cancun, Mexico

Cancun, located along the Caribbean coast on the southeastern tip of Mexico, has a reputation for being a party city because so many college kids go there for spring break. Even if you aren't a fan of bars and nightclubs, you will find many other sites and attractions in the city. Swimming with dolphins, touring ancient ruins, and learning about the local culture will leave you entertained.

Explore Cancun

The right time to visit Cancun depends on a number of factors, but most travelers enjoy a trip during the dry season. This season runs from November to April. Average temperatures are in the high 80s, while the lows seldom drop below 70 degrees Fahrenheit. The rainy season increases the risk of hurricanes, and the season also brings warmer temperatures and higher humidity to the area.

After packing your bags and arriving at Cancun International Airport, you can rent a car from Dollar, Thrifty, Budget, or Hertz. Hotel shuttles, city buses, and taxis are also available. Hotels often share shuttles, which can result in multiple stops, and city buses also make frequent stops, which extends the time it takes to reach your hotel.

Once you reach your hotel, it's time to explore some of the area's top attractions. Ancient sites like the Coba Ruins, El Rey Ruins, and El Meco Ruins give you a glimpse of the ancient cultures that thrived in Cancun. If you want to get a little wet, head to Wet 'n Wild Cancun, which is a large water park with dozens of different rides and waterslides. Cancun is also home to multiple beaches, including Playa Tortugas and Playa Linda.
