Orbitz.com can help you find affordable deals on your next trip from Baltimore to Orlando. If you want a change of pace from Baltimore's bustling seaport environment, an ideal vacation option is a trip further south to Orlando-nicknamed "The City Beautiful"-to enjoy the Walt Disney World Resort and the Universal Orlando Resort along with the many outdoor activities available in this Sun Belt city.
Vacationers traveling from Baltimore to Orlando can fly out of Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), located in Anne Arundel County, approximately 10 miles south of downtown Baltimore. AirTran Airways and Southwest Airlines offer nonstop flights from this airport to Orlando. BWI is generally considered one of the easiest airports to get to from the local downtown area, as it has a light rail station located in its main terminal. Travelers can transfer from the city's subway system to the light rail. The light rail runs every 30 minutes and takes the same amount of time to reach the airport.
Another rail option is to travel by Amtrak or the MARC Penn Line to the BWI Rail Station, located approximately a mile from the airport terminals. The airport offers a free shuttle that transports passengers from the station to the terminals. Travel time by train is about 10 minutes from Penn Station in the downtown area.
Other options to get to BWI include taxi service, airport shuttle and bus service. Long- and short-term parking is available at the airport if you would prefer to drive and leave your car. Parking in the daily garage costs $12 per day. An express parking lot is also available that offers free shuttle pick-up from your parking spot for $10 per day. The long-term parking lots charge $8 per day and offers frequent shuttle bus service to the terminals.
Orlando, located in the central region of Florida, is one of the most visited cities in the United States. The city's famous theme parks form the backbone of its thriving tourism industry. Orlando is also one of the most popular convention locations, offering a wide array of amenities and activities for the business traveler, including four-star hotels, world-class golf courses, elite restaurants, active entertainment, and beautiful parks and gardens.
Visitors to Orlando can fly into Orlando International Airport, the primary airport for the city, or the Orlando-Sanford International Airport, located in the neighboring suburb of Sanford. Orlando International Airport is located just 6 miles southeast of downtown Orlando. All of the major hotels and resorts in the area offer free shuttle service from the airport. For example, Disney's Magical Express provides free transportation and luggage service for guests of the resort. Public bus service is provided by Lynx Route 111 to downtown areas. Taxis, limos and rental cars are also available at this airport.
The weather in Orlando can be classified as either hot or hotter. The city experiences warm, balmy springs and autumns. Summers are very hot and tend to feature daily thunderstorms, with average temperatures in the mid-90s. Winters are mild, with average temperatures in the 70s. Peak tourism months correspond with school closings in June, July, August, March and April. If you are not traveling to Orlando with kids, some of the best times to visit are in the non-peak months.
There is more to do in Orlando than one can typically fit into an ordinary vacation. The major area attractions include Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, SeaWorld Adventure Park Orlando, Discovery Cove and Wet 'N Wild. Other attractions include the Florida EcoSafaris at Forever Florida and the many golf and tennis facilities. A popular attraction for restaurant buffs is CityWalk at Universal Orlando and Downtown Disney, which offers many world-class restaurants for your dining pleasure.
