We cannot wait to stay here again! The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially the hotel manager Mike Nasser. He made us feel like family after the first night. The grounds are lovely, especially the courtyard/patio/pool area. The free breakfast for guests is the best I've ever had with eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, fresh fruit, pancakes, cereal, bagels, muffins, coffee, milk, and juice. Lots of options and it was delicious. The hotel is older, but the rooms were exceptionally clean and all of the buildings very well maintained. Our bed was very comfortable, the TV had a nice channel selection, and the Wi-Fi connection was strong. All of this for a very affordable rate. We will definitely stay here again!!!

Stayed here due to location of NCAA Regional Baseball Championships. What a great find, and stayed for 5 days. We could sit out front with the rest of the baseball families and talk and relax under the beautiful trees on the property. We would come in from all day watching baseball, Mike and his staff would make sure that we were all fed and taken care of. He truly cared about our stories and wanted us to have the best experience in Tyler,Texas. He is a great representative of Tyler, Texas. The rooms were comfortable, great pillows, air conditioning and fast free WiFi. They have a sports lounge on the property, big plus being a sports fan. I would highly recommend this hotel, you just don't get that hospitality from other hotels.

I could not believe that this hotel had 4.5 stars. We arrived early after being told we could have early check in. We arrived at 10 till 3 and they made us wait till 3. We went to the first room where there were roaches on the floor and the air conditioning didn't work. Went back to the office and they gave us another room. After going to THAT room there were bugs and no microwave. Back to the office. They gave us a 3rd room that absolutely filthy. Back to the office. We ask for a refund and the manager and front desk were not accommodating and very rude. Shameful customer service and rooms way below par. Nasty, nasty place.

Let me start by saying I booked this hotel on Hotels.com 2 weeks ahead of time. My wife, mother-in-law, and myself drove 8 hours to TX and were really looking forward to staying at this hotel. We called around 11am and asked if we could have an early check-in letting the front desk staff know we'd be there around 2-2:30pm. Check in is typically 3pm. They told us thst wasn't a problem. We showed up at 2:45 and were told by Britni (front desk staff) that we could not check in early and would have to wait the 15 minutes... she even told us she was the one who had talked to me on the phone and told us we could check in early. We waited the 15 minutes, until 3pm, and were given our room. We walked in and noticed the room was extremely hot and tried to turn on the AC. The AC never turned on. We went back to the front desk and asked for another room since our AC didn't work. We were told maybe we didn't turn it on right and given another room. We walked into the 2nd room and immediately smelled mildew. Upon unloading our bags out of the car we noticed a huge cockroach in the room. And no microwave. We called the front desk, who said they would give us another room - I asked that they please check the room prior to us entering since this would be the 3rd room. They said they would. I went to the front desk again and got our new keys. We were rudely addressed and told "that's the room we are trying to fix the microwave in and microwaves are available upon request." We now headed to our 3rd room and by this point we are extremely tired after our long drive and just want a clean room. We walk up and notice the housekeeper on the phone with her young child inside the room doing a look over. She leaves the room and we notice right away 3 roaches on the floor. We told the housekeeper and she says "that's just the carpet" and touches it with her hand. As she does so one of the roaches starts moving. She picks it up with a towel and walks out. That was it. We couldn't take anymore unsanitary rooms. We went back to the front and told them the situation and asked for a refund. We were basically told "too bad, but since you booked through a website you have to ask them for a refund". We asked to talk to the manager and were told he wasn't there. After going back and forth with this lady she finally says "I think the manager is here now, let me go get him". The manager was sitting in the back the whole time!!!! He comes out and refuses to give us a refund and tells us to calm down and "have some respect". Who talks to their guests that way? Absolutely worst hotel experience. We will never attempt to stay here ever again!!!!

Was here in May for a wedding rehearsal dinner. Service was good. Food was average Italian. Facility was clean and a good size. I did not stay at the hotel as a guest. Not sure on value for service as I was a guest and did not pay for dinner.

Very comfortable and affordable, Manager Mike and Susan bent over backwards to make it a special event for our family. Rehearsal dinner was great and they helped us set up the caterer. It felt like a family hotel, they had irons, microwaves hair dryers and all the little essentials. highly recommend the hotel for family reunions, church events and weddings The pool was nice and grounds were very pretty- loved the waterfall. look forward to staying again.

At first, I wasn't too sure about this place since I'm leery of hotels with doors that face the outside rather than the inside, but after a few minutes, we fell in love with it. The Magnusen Grand is a locally owned hotel that reminded me of the places we used to stay when I was a kid-- only better. The rooms are updated and clean, the beds were comfy, and the whole place is quiet and serene. The courtyard, with its pool and fountain and towering trees, is relaxing and peaceful, even when the hotel is fully booked. There was a big storm while we were there, and we hardly heard a thing. The staff is SO nice and accommodating and friendly-- they catered to our every need when we asked for something. Breakfast is tasty-- freshly made in the kitchen right there (not reheated in a microwave in the back) and replenished frequently. The on-site bar is a nice place to kick back for a drink after a long day-- it's more like a public house than a hotel bar. Both travelers and locals congregate together here, and it felt like we'd been regulars forever. The management was fabulous-- eager to make our stay perfect, and they go above and beyond to make sure that everyone's stay is perfect. I wish there were more places like this in every city we visit. The next time we're in Tyler, we will definitely book at the Magnusen Grand. I don't think a trip up there would be the same without staying there!

I am beyond disappointed with our stay at eh Magnuson. The rooms we stayed in were separate from the lobby and there was only one stair rail per side to access the second floor. Our room was very outdated, with a door that didn't connect to the paneling all the way so light shined through our door. The shower is extremely small and our toilet didn't flush properly. Bed was extremely uncomfortable. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Stay at the Hilton next door.

I originally found the hotel on a travel website and chose based on proximity to hospital in which my father was staying. I not only found a peaceful and quiet place but met amazing new friends. Mike the GM is the best and took great care of me and made sure my stay was just right. I'll be back for sure for future stays and will keep in touch with new friends I met while staying there. Service is the key and they have it down great. Make sure to say hi to Mike when you are there and he will take great care of you. Facilities are great for any party or event. Breakfast was fresh and real. Unlike all the other free breakfast offers at other hotels. Will be back and recommend to anyone in area. Italian restaurant across the street is fabulous. As for Benny the owner. No pre made stuff there. All fresh and great.

Stayed with a group for several days and was happy with the room, pool, and great breakfast menu. But most of all, I was extremely impressed with how the manager and staff went out of their way to take care of us. There is no doubt we will be back next year!
