Courtyard Suwanee by Marriott3.0 out of 5.0

Room fine, beds great. Front desk: Nasty on the phone, hung up on my wife. Unpleasant demeanor in person as well. Almost hateful. Loyal to Marriott, Gold level member, so very disappointing. Bistro employee very nice, but no coffee or food available till 7:30 am on weekends.
The Courtyard is usually a consistent brand, but this location needs some help. To be clear the staff were very nice and fun, but the amenities need help. Our room shower was very low. I'm 5'6" and had to crouch to get fully immersed. Plus the shower head attachment was leaking and spraying out. The lobby bathrooms were out of soap and toilet paper and the workout room did not have sanitizer wipes. In addition, if Courtyard wants to be competitive they need to get in line with the Hampton and offer coffee and breakfast.
With confirmed reservations for 6 rooms, the first group to arrive confirmed 3 times with front desk staff that the final group would be a late arrival. That group arrived at 1:30am to find their room had been given to someone else, despite the multiple confirmations of a late arrival. Front desk staff told us a room at a nearby hotel had been arranged. At 2am we arrived at the new hotel to find there was no room. With part of the group still checked in at the Courtyard Atlanta Suwanee, we asked for a call from the general manager the next morning to discuss the problem. "He's too busy and probably won't call" was the response.
The room has cool artwork but lots of flaws. The light in the bathroom was not working properly. Room service was making noises until 11 at night. We arrived around 9pm. There were housekeeping machines outside the room. They do not offer complimentary breakfast but they offer Starbucks which was closed by the next morning. We had to leave to get breakfast elsewhere. They were vacuuming outside of the door of my room and the deadbolt would not lock.
My stay though was less than spectacular for several reasons. 1. The first floor southern door exit does not latch and is not secure. I came in and out several times without needing a room key. The latch does not work. 2. Housekeeping was almost non-existent. While my bed was made and new towels installed, no new cups, no new coffee supplies, no new soap bars were supplied. 3. On Friday night about 10 PM, I asked the front desk lady to see about the two large piles of garbage by the ice machine on the 2nd floor. I do believe they were removed but they were there for some time.
My mother was staying at a hospital in the area so I decided to stay close by in the Courtyard Suwanee. The other hotel on Celebration Drive looked a little shady so we chose the Courtyard. Desk staff was super friendly and helpful. Breakfast area looked nice. Our room, however, was not entirely clean. Sheets were clean, but the floor did not look vacuumed. Bathroom was fairly clean. But the big thing was that when I looked out on our balcony the screen door had fallen off and was laying across the chair. And on the table was a soda can that had obviously been used as an ashtray. I told the front desk attendant about this when we went out for the afternoon and she said she would get on it right away, however, when we returned for the night nothing had been cleaned up. If the maid didn't even take the time to open the curtain and check the balcony it makes me wonder what else was overlooked. Additionally, the walls and door were paper thin. I could hear people in the next room as well as anyone walking and talking up & down the hallway.
It's Christmas night and it's quiet in the hotel since there was probably 10 cars in the parking lot. We decided on this hotel because of its proximity to family and since we were treated nicely during the Thanksgiving holiday after a housekeeping issue. Checked in yesterday afternoon at 2:45pm (Christmas Eve) through their app (super easy) and got my keys immediately. Room was clean and bed was made perfectly. Spent entire Christmas Day out and came back late to find no clean towels and beds not made. We grabbed our soiled towels and went down to grab fresh towels and shampoo since the one left was half empty when we used it today. The receptionist gave us a typed notice (was suppose to have been distribute yesterday) that housekeeping was off today and a stay-over bag was to be delivered at our door last night. I would have appreciated the timely notice. I am not sure if we will stay here again, as there are several options on the same street. I'm disappointed that this is the second time in 30 days I had an issue with the same hotel. I expected more from Marriott. I have stayed in other hotels during the holidays and never had housekeeping off.
We were in Suwanee for a quick trip and chose this hotel based on location only. Turned out to be a very nice surprise. The young lady working the front desk was so pleasant. I asked for dinner suggestions and she said she was new to the area but would get some recommendations for us. We dropped our bags and came back down to lobby and she had a list of local places written out for us. The room was a really nice surprise. Obviously recently "redone" the décor was very nice and extremely tech friendly. Each bedside table had two built in outlets and a USB charging port!
Typical Courtyard. Its clean and well kept. We had a really slow check in process, but it wasn't a day killer. Pretty close to a few great restaurants if you like Asian food. Bar is very small in the lobby but the ladies working were very friendly.
We are shocked to discover that this hotel did not have any breakfast option besides the pay option. No hotel in this category doesn't have a free breakfast of some kind as far as I know... even just coffee in the bar.. there was none of that.. just the option to buy pricey menu options. When I went to purchase something, no one was there for a long while. There is a bar, which is nice but even a single tea bag was pricey, with a cup of hot water. I would suggest at a minimum have coffee for the guests in the AM. Optimally, have a small area of free pastries, etc. and if you need to charge for other menu items above that, fine. I would probably not come back if I had the option of a Hampton Inn, etc. which has way more amenities. Rooms were very clean and beds very comfortable.
