staff has absolutely no hospitalit knowledge, no leaders around

Very comfortable stay in the center of San Jose. Close to main Teatro National, Cathedrals, and Museums. clearly newly renovated. "Family room" was perfect for us, with two separate bedrooms (queen bed in one, two doubles in other) & sitting room in between.

This is one of best hotels in the area, but when you leave the building after dark we did not feel comfortable or completely safe. If you plan on visiting Costa Rica, don't stay in San Jose for very long & good luck getting out of city easily, we were met with many road construction projects & traffic jams... not fun! Nice hotel though & staff was helpful & there was security on site.

From the pictures, this place looks phenomenal. However, the overall experience was just ok. The bathrooms had a musty smell and there was construction going on through out our entire visit. We usually stayed for breakfast downstair and that was okay as well. If you are single or on a budget this place would be great for you. But we had kids with us so iwas really hoping it would be more of a relaxing experience and unfortunatley this hotel did not meet my needs. The location of the hotel wasnt that great either, our first night here the taxi driver turns to my husband and oints out a brothel and says good price for them sir. the remainder of our trip we stayed in a resort in Arenal which was a much better experince for us.

very disappointed in this hotel. we booked it online because the hotel looked great in the pictures and was centrally located in San Jose. We were only staying for one night on our way back to california from the caribbean coast. After an incredibly relaxing week at a beautiful 3 room rental house in the jungle, that cost less than this hotel we were knocked right out of our relaxed mood. After a $40 cab ride from the airport, we began to check in. The front desk clerk was nice and spoke english and we asked if there was a way to call american airlines so my mom could change to a later flight. she tried to oblige but the phones would not call out. the hotel did look nice and so did the rooms until i saw a few cockroaches. then we sat down and tried to use the room phone to call out as the desk clerk said we could and it also did not work. then we went to ask where a store was to buy beer or wine to relax in the room. the clerk told me there was a store one block up the road. 7 blocks over we finally found one. drank our wine and went to bed late knowing we could sleep in for our 4 o'clock flight. and then right at 7:30am BOOM BOOM BOOM right above our room they started construction. called the clerk who said they would stop and then it started again at 8:15. called again and she said sorry and hung up. we were not given any discount and they did not seem to care. i also got very ill from the complimentary breakfast buffet despite eating street food all week with no problem.

Nice place and great staff... downtown location with good restaurant.

The hotel was good, the staff was very friendly and attentive! The hotel restaurant was great the waitress was very helpful in helping decide what wine to choose.

Too noise from the street, room and bathroom was not adequate to the category

It is in a walkable part of the city, with a good restaurant (free great breakfast), coffee shop, and candy store inside. Parking is also inside in a small garage. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms aren't anything special but comfy. A little loud in the morning.

Helpful staff, comfortable stay, lovely breakfast, clean room.

Great central location! A lot of value for the money!

This was my 3rd time staying at the Balmoral. In my previous 2 stays everything was perfect, comfortable bed, great staff service, everything. This time was not a good experience. The bed in the room I was in was not confortable. Also the staff mistreated my girlfriend multiple times. Don't think I'll stay here again due to the mistreatment.

Great hotel! Great location and great food. The room is very clean and pretty, I can say it's well maintained. I always enjoy my stay here. Every time I'm in downtown, I always choose this hotel.

Despite it being an aging building they have done an excellent job of updating and modernizing it to a beautiful and comfortable hotel.

Value, friendly staff, comfortable stay. Perfect for a quick business trip. In the center of downtown.

Nice hotel with fair prices and a fantastic staff. I would recommend a stay.

We had many questions about the area and tours. The hotel staff was great in helping us with everything from booking a shuttle to and from the airport to providing information on places to go in he city and tours to see the surrounding area. We also got a complimentary upgrade to a better room which was greatly appreciated. There is an attached bar and restaurant which were nice for quick and convenient meals. I would recommend the Balmoral to anyone looking for a reasonably priced, nice hotel in the city.

The breakfast was good. The food in the hotel restaurant was expensive, the quality was average. Although the location was great, (it's right on the pedestrian walkway downtown) the street noise was unbelieveable. The staff weren't very helpful when we asked for a taxi they directed us outside to the nearest corner with all our luggage.

I stayed for one night before my return flight leaving from San Jose. The location is safe for walking on the pedestrian only street. We explored the area at night and then again in the morning. The breakfast has a great selection from fresh fruit to pancakes!

The hotel was pretty nice for San Jose, and it is really close to the heart of the city. The first floor is really nice, but the rooms could never compete on an international level. Bathroom was extremely outdated. That said, it's not bad for the money where you are.

Hello, we are concerned with your review. We don't understand what happened and it is difficult to improve if you do not specify what issues you had. We consider to have a great team and we have been in the hospitality industry for more than 60 years so it surprises me to read that according to you we have no hospitality knowledge.
