Good hotel, close to San Jose airport and attractions

Be prepared for traffic nightmares. Airport pick-up was late, but a quick call and they were on their way. All employees were fruendly and helpful. Hotel has beautiful greenery and an awesome breeze blowing throughout the open doors and windows. Roy desk was helpful and the breakfast buffet was plentiful. We enjoyed our week stay.

The food was delicious and the variety was excellent. Every staff was friendly..

We drove around San Jose for 3 hrs looking for this place. There are no address, only landmarks that the hotel tells you about, but that doesn't help when you don't know the place. The name is only visible on one side. The entrance to the parking looks like it isn't even a hotel. There needs to be better signage.

Very comfortable hotel, from the lobby and bar to the excellent restaurants and garden grounds. We enjoyed the warm hospitality of the staff and will visit again.

Very nice hotel with a friendly staff and a beautiful view of San Jose. We would recommend the hotel although, it is much further away from the SJO airport than the .47 miles listed in the description.

The hotel was ok. We stayed in a Barcelo in Mexico and it was great, however this one did not live up to our expectations. The pillows were extremely uncomfortable I woke up with a stiff neck and could barely sleep. After a day of hiking we were really looking forward to the hot tub, when we got to it it was ice cold. When I told an employee he said he would turn it on. We waited for half an hour and it was still cold. When I asked him about it he said it would take 2 hours to heat up. I spoke to a manager and he apologized but did nothing about it. The breakfast was really subpar. The best thing about it was the coffee and bread with butter.

We stayed in room #127... As soon as you step off elevator and walk through the halls the musty smell hits you, once in your room it gets worse. First night I was unable to sleep, I decided to keep the air conditioner on and heard from another family in the 4th floor they had same issues. Bath tub exterior looked as if it had been painted at some point, area under sink dirty, just horrible... Our best experience was with Breakfast Buffet, the morning manager and staff were absolutely GREAT, so we're Ricardo and Alberto at the tour desk. ***DON'T FALL FOR HOTEL MINI VANS TO TRANSPORT YOU, TOTAL RIP OFF, USE UBER, SAME AS APP AS HERE, 1/4 THE PRICE AND EXCELLENT SERVICE. ENJOY AND PURA VIDA!

Confortable and quiet rooms. The atention was wonderful

I've stayed here each time I have gone to Costa Rica and I love this hotel. It has a beautiful pool and the service is always great! It isn't right in the city but they have shuttles to take and pick you up from the airport.

I love the Barcelo for so many reasons. Great concierge VIP room as it doesn't break the bank to get a room with this service. The rooms are spacious and room amenities are nice. The breakfast is outstanding as there isn't a better breakfast at any other hotel in town. A huge selection of just about everything and every type of fresh squeezed juice. The grounds are nice as well as the hotel is well designed and situated for great views. Probably the only complaint is that the pool needs to be heated as the water is a bit cold for simple bathing. But the pool is a good size with a nice area to relax with restaurant.

After traveling solo around Costa Rica I picked this hotel to relax comfortably before my flight back home. I arrived on Valentine's day, checked in comfortably then took a walk through the gardens. The hotel gardens are beautiful and even include a description of the plants. Pool bar staff was friendly and helpful. That night for dinner I was extremely disappointed with the bar lounge restaurant service. They were understaffed and I was completely neglected. The server forgot to come take my order, then never came back let me know about the wine options. I had to walk over to the bar to ask for my drink. The calamari was not fresh, salty, but the presentation was nice. My room was very clean, comfortable and pretty. The bathroom toiletries were of very good quality, I really appreciated that! Housekeeping staff even stopped by to ask if I needed additional towels. Aside from my dinner experience there, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

The hotel is very nice. A little isolated but for taxi $8-$10 you can go to downtown San Jose to explore. Very nice specious rooms with beautiful furniture. Staff is attentive and very polite. The a la carte restaurant meals are outstanding.

This is more like a 3 star hotel. Rooms need updating. Not very clean... Hair on bathroom floor. Breakfast buffet is good but food at lunch and dinner is terrible. People at front desk are just ok by Costa Rica standards.

Autopista General Canas 3km San Jose San Jose

Museum of Costa Rican Art is within a mile (2 km) of Barceló San José, and other popular sites like Spirogyra Butterfly Garden are within a couple of miles (3 km). This 4-star hotel has 254 guestrooms and offers an outdoor pool, free in-room WiFi, and free self parking. Also close to this San Jose hotel are Gold Museum and Jade Museum.

great place to stay!

ok hotel

The hotel was ok. We stayed in a Barcelo in Mexico and it was great, however this one did not live up to our expectations. Dear Guest: I am sorry to hear your expectations were not met. I do apologize about the incident with the hot tub, unfortunately a previous guest inadvertently turned off the heat prior to your arrival, and it does take an hour to reheat. As soon as we noticed it had been turned off we proceeded to turn it back on immediately. In circumstances like this we could have given an upgrade to a room with a hot tub, but due to the hotel being completely booked this was impossible. I will recheck the detail regarding the WIFI with our IT manager We hope you give us a second chance to change your impressions of the Barceló San Jose.
