If you are flying between July and October, Tortuguero National Park is a real treat. Here the marshy islands are home to howler monkeys, Amazon kingfishers, blue herons, toucans, otters and caiman. At this time of year, the park's shoreline also welcomes green, giant leatherback, hawksbill and loggerhead turtles, which haul themselves up the beach to lay their eggs.
