Good location....nice Victorian decor, but the rooms were small....bathrooms were very clean & we always had a hot shower. We wished we had a TV in the room.

Loved the hotel. Old building with original layout. A lot of quaint and unique features. Bathrooms are shared on the floor, but they were all clean and never had to wait. The massage chair on the first floor was awesome. I would not recommend eating at the restaurant below adjacent to the hotel though. The food wasn’t anything special, but I was most turned off when ordering some noodles for my 8 year old daughter. There was no child’s menu, so I just asked the waiter if he could bring a small plate of noodles with some buttter on it. He did. When the bill came they charged $18 dollars for that plate of noodles with butter. The same price as regular entrees that actually were served with a sauce more detailed than “buttter”. :-/. But if you ignore the restaurant, this hotel is the best bet for value, location, and comfort. I will definitely go back (but not to the restaurant...ha).

North Beach area is amazing. We felt so bad because our flight was majorly delayed and we had to wake the night manager in order to check in. The hotel is the epitome of a Victorian guest house. Very cute and well maintained. However, the old charm also means that rooms are small, the floors are a bit creeky and the walls a bit thin. There was never a wait for the bathrooms or showers in the morning and everything was clean. I loved everything about it, however, my spouse who is a light sleeper wasn’t as keen.

The staff was so nice to everyone not just us if you need anything they would get it for you like rags creamer. Was not to crazy about sharing the bathroom or shower but they were very clean and wish coffee was available earlier the 8am and so did many other guests.

We loved the hotel charm and character when searching for a place in fisherman's wharf. That expectation was met but with a few sour notes. We had 3 in our party and were assigned room 5. This room does not have a window facing the exterior but rather interior hallway, this lead to a hot sleep experience with no ventilation other than a ceiling fan. It also is right next to reception. We unfortunately had guest next to us who did not respect the 10-8 quite hours and both morning we where woken up at 6 by there talking and moving of things in their room. Even with these undelightful elements we would stay again but ask for a room upstairs or away from reception.

Great and unique hotel, in a great location. Be prepared that this is kind of like a hostel, and you are sharing toilets, sinks and showers which are tucked throughout the hotel. Everything is clean though, and the other travelers were all quiet and considerate. The Italian restaurant on the first floor is amazing too!

Nice hotel and great location - walking distance to a lot of restaurants. Rooms are clean and cozy. Restrooms are shared but are clean and the little amenities they have (mouthwash, cotton swabs, etc) is a nice touch.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. The room was quite cozy, but our needs were met. The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was perfect. It was great to be so close the Fisherman's Wharf and within walking distance of China Town. We would definitely recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind shared bathrooms.

great history, beautiful building a lot of character with wonderful staff, comfortable room and bed with convenient location in the heart of San Francisco

Charming hotel with perfect location ! The rooms are a bit small but functional. The coffee/tea offered in the lobby is a nice touch. The shared bathrooms are impeccable.

Great place in a great location. I have stayed here many times and will be back. About the only drawback is the rooms are very small. Aside from that, the San Remo is awesome.

Nice, great location and very simple. It was cool.

The rooms are small. Comfortable for a couple of smaller people or someone on their own. I'd highly recommend getting a room with a sink. They are larger and make brushing teeth, face washing, or other clean up much more private.

We stayed 2 nights and had a good quiet night sleep. You cannot beat the location! San Francisco is sunny but the weather is colder than we expected :) Be prepared to have some warmer clothes.

Overall all was good. The room was just small and so it felt a bit limited. Staff were nice and friendly.

The location is good and the price is good, but this comes with some sacrifices. For someone that wants a clean place to stay but is on a budget, this is a great place to stay.

I only stayed at the San Remo for one night, but it was lovely -- the room was neat & the format was awesome. I was initially concerned about "sharing a bathroom" -- but it was nice, as everything was always super clean and orderly, and just down the hall. I felt like I was boarding at a home from yesteryear! Location is also good & for the money, you really can't beat it. Plus WiFi was free!

My girlfriend and I stayed here for one night as a crash pad after my company holiday party near the Wharf. Likely won't be staying here again. Pros: -The location was incredible - we only had to walk for 10 minutes to get to Pier 35. -The decor is very cute. -Staff were very friendly for check-in/out. -Free jar of red vines at the coffee and water station! Cons: -While we knew in advance about the communal bathroom, it's still off-putting to wake up in the middle of the night and go down the hallway to a restroom which somebody else has already made a mess of (puddles on the toilet room floor? Nooooooo thank you.) -The bed. Dear god, the bed. It was the hardest mattress I have ever felt, and add to it that it's a full size with a metal bedframe at the head and foot. We're both around 6'1" so we had to bend in awkward directions to even fit on it, and we left the next day with back and neck pain (not kidding).

Upon checking into the San Remo Hotel, You'll get the feel that you're truly being welcomed into a friend's home-your open, unlocked, room awaits you with its warm, comforting charm and cozy, maximal use of minimal space. The San Remo is a best kept little secret in San Francisco's casual tourist market, with it's tastefully, old-time furnishings, décor, and prime location with a minimal price, only blocks from some of the most prime real estate in the entire US! If you're looking for 5-star, modern hotel with room service, then go pay 5x as much up the street at The Hilton, but if you're looking for warm, welcoming, accommodations within a 5 minute walk to The Wharf, don't mind a shared, but private bathroom and a staff that is 2nd to none, then The San Remo Is For You! Their free borrow library, coffee, lemonade, candies and warmed towels by the shower/sinks and decorative flair can't be beat! Yes, the rooms are a bit small, but if you're spending enough time in your room in San Francisco to worry about the size of your room, then you're doing it WRONG! Honestly, I can't even remember if we had a tv in our room, and I could care less-it was a quiet, cozy, comfortable room, with a very safe and secure hotel layout-worst thing that happened is when I walked to the bathroom in the night and touched a woman in my path because I can't see my hand in front of my face without my contacts in and was feeling my way around. I hope she was cute, because I think I startled both of us-maybe she didn't have her contacts in either?! Great hotel, great location and best kept little secret I've found in San Francisco. I wouldn't stay at The Hilton even if they dropped the price by 4/5, I've been there before and sincerely, PREFER THE SAN REMO HOTEL! THANK YOU SO MUCH TO THE HOTEL'S STAFF AND MANAGEMENT FOR MAKING IT A GREAT SF EXPERIENCE!!! PS: If you're the woman I grabbed in the night (by accident, I swear) & you're cute, please feel free to contact me, if you're ugly, then just continue to let me believe you were cute and don't bother contacting me. My wife just hit me for that last part, but agrees with the rest-so next time I'll meet you at The San Remo, Alone?!
