The rooms were spacious and clean. Friendly and courteous staff. Great location, it is close to many restaurants. I just wish that the bed was more comfy.

Excellent location if you want to be in or near to Japantown. Facilities fine although chairs and lighting in room could be better. Staff pleasant and helpful. Attached restaurant is convenient but certainly not a "destination" eatery. I would stay again at Kimpton Buchanan if I needed to be around Jpantown.

There was construction going on at 7:15 the next morning. I’m it talking about a couple of loud Bangs.. it was Pounding Hammers building a property next door. No warning by the Hotel. We got in Late after a concert and Just wanted to sleep in. They should have communicated with the construction workers to start after 8-8:30 am. Nice property, great restaurant as well. I would make sure the construction is Finished before you book.

FASTEST STRONGEST FREE IN-ROOM WIFI that I've had in years! $40 +tax self-parking with in-and-out privileges was among the best deals I found. Parking garage is small and if it's full, there's a $29 garage a block away. Hotel staff is completely professional, quick, and helpful, if not the warmest you'll ever find. If they're busy, it could be hard to get someone to answer the phone. Hotel offers free coffee & tea everyday in the lobby in the morning, but weekday coffee ends at 9 am, and they really mean 9 am! If you just miss the cut off, front desk may give you a coupon to redeem a free coffee at the hotel restaurant. Hotel offers free wine & sake in the lobby on weekend evenings, I believe. Complimentary loaner umbrella in your room i.e. no need to get one from the front desk. Rooms and hallways are clean and adequately bright. Ice machines also offer filtered water. My room had a nice window alcove seat that had great natural light. In-room temperature control was not perfect, but a lot better than most hotel room thermostats. Shower water pressure was fine, not awesome. Shower offers full-size shampoo, conditioner, and body wash pump bottles, so you don't have to deal with tiny bottles and unnecessary packaging waste. In-room mini fridge was effective and kept my drinks cool. Where there's room for improvement - a more sensible chest of drawers (their drawers really aren't very practical) and a wider bathroom sink ledge as my toothbrush fell off the narrow sink ledge.

Inside Japan town, lots Stores to shop and Different varieties of restaurants to eat, adjacent to nice pacific Heights residential area, walking distance to Grace cathedral and Fairmount hotel!

Great location and very safe and clean. Staff us excellent

Gerardo and Rey were very accommodating! Best staff ever! Also the rooms were so clean and cute!

Hotel is nice and feels new but a little cheaply furnished.

We didn’t really spend much time in the hotel. The place was really beautiful in its design.

The Kimpton Buchanan is a cute boutique hotel in a convenient location. It has a very nicely decorated lobby with a friendly staff. It has a wine/sake tasting every day, which makes it feel like a bed and breakfast and more intimate. The location (in Japantown) is convenient, safe and clean. It is located steps away from great restaurants and grocery stores. The room was fresh and modern, and the bathroom was spacious. The room is a little smaller than it looks in pictures, but otherwise, we had no complaints and had a very pleasant stay.

The staff makes you feel at home and caters to your needs as they take the chance to get to know you.

Love this hotel!! The stylish design, accommodating staff and well appointed and comfortable rooms. We will be back!!

Great stay in San Francisco with perfect location to get around

We wanted to be close to SF's Cherry Blossom Festival, and the Buchanan's Japanton location is excellent. Room was quiet, clean and comfortable overall, however the set-screw for the tub/shower handle was missing and we were unable to take a bath!. With a king-sized bed, there should be a chair in addition to the one at the desk so two people have a place to sit. The unadvertised bonus for this room was the children playing on the day care center's playground next door.

Overall an average experience. The bed is super comfortable and made the experience better. The room needs dusted better. Also, if you have a party larger than 4, do not go to the restaurant. We had 8 and they said they were full at 8p.m., but half of the restaurant was empty. Ive stayed in better places.

Very nice location. Many asian restaurants to choose from within walking distance. Wine tasting in lobby for one hour. On site restaurant is convenient with simple menu. Average food. 8floors. We were on 3rd floor. Window seat in room good for people watching. Parking was very limited at hotel and cost $38/day. I imagine on weekends they run out of spaces and they said they direct you to nearby garage.

Thanks for the perfect score and praise of our location and service here, G! Normally, our beds receive similar praise for their perfect not-too-squishy-not-too-firm balance... if you'd like to add another feather layer as a bit of a topper, we can try that next time?

Thanks, Ken. I'm glad you loved our Japantown for vacation and -- if I may be bold -- I'd say this is still an ideal place to be if you're exploring other areas. Lower Pacific Heights/J-town area here is central, accessible (bus or Uber/Lyft), and also walkable to some fun sites and of course fashionable Fillmore Street with its boutique shops and dining. You might enjoy casual spots like tacobar and Roam for a burger and salad, or Michelin-starred fine dining at hotspots like State Bird or Octavia (and the list goes on ;)… just love to talk food...)

Hi, Lee, and thanks so much for staying with us. I'm sorry that last year after a quiet period, the construction company for that condo building decided to begin concrete drilling. A memorable event, to be sure. We've had smooth sailing for 2020 since that phase is done, and I'm hoping we can make this right for you. Please give me a ring and we'll see if maybe you will consider us for future visits to shows in our area. Thank you!
