Seeing the hotel photos in Orbitz and Expedia, I decided to book this hotel for a 3-day stay for a conference in San Francisco. However, after staying at the hotel, my wife and I weren't happy with our stay. Here are my reasons. First of all, the location of the hotel is great. There are also some extra dinner credit and grab-and-go breakfasts provided by the hotel which is really nice. However, the room was really tiny and dark. It also smelled damp. There were two windows but both of them opened to a very small alley, and there was another big wall in 1m distance. Therefore, it's better to say there was no window. I also had two more bad experiences there: the water was interrupted one night from 12 to 4, and another night, a false fire alarm at 2:45 am, woke up me and my wife as well as all of the other guests of the hotel. We asked the staff to change our room, but they said no room with the street view is available. To sum up, we weren't happy with our stay at all and that was because the room we stayed in was so different from the images we saw from the hotel beforehand in Orbitz and Expedia.

Air conditioner couldn't keep the room cool enough, but everything else was perfect.

This hotel was amazing. The staff, room and location were great. Our room was very very clean. Will definitely stay here again in the future.

Nice lobby with fireplace for gathering. Hotel well maintained. Comfortable rooms.

I had the queen deluxe room. Pretty small but cheap for the location. Older building that was updated, could be why my shower didn't work.

I spent two nights at Hotel Abri, in two different rooms, and I experienced two totally different hotels. Night one, I arrived after a late flight and quickly retired to my room. The room was tidy, small, oddly shaped, and somewhat shabby. The only window overlooked the air shaft. It had a tiny desk in the corner and a bathroom the size of a postage stamp. Though I reserved a queen bed the room only had a double, and I spent the night with my toes peeking out of the end of the bed. The next morning, I went downstairs and asked if it was possible to get a room with a larger bed. The woman at the front desk informed me that the room I was in was supposedly a queen, but I assured her it was not. She then told me I could switch rooms. The second room was luxurious and spacious, with a view of the city lights, an ample bathroom, and a desk. It was seriously like being in a different hotel. The bed was comfortable and cozy and my night was all around wonderful. So this is to say that the experience at the hotel will totally depend on what kind of room you get!

Good location, easy parking, but small room and noisy

The hotel staff went above the norm to take care of my wife and I. They gave us information about the areas of San Francisco that we were interested in seeing and how to get there. Everything that we asked for they gave us. The room was comfortable and had old charm. We will stay at "Hotel Abri" again when we return to San Francisco!!!

Nothing is cheap in San Francisco but this place was worth the price. Right downtown so everything is accesible by cab or BART or even just walking, though I wouldn't recommend walking through the Tenderloin at night. Staff were helpful and nice and our room was a good size.

The place is expensive... even for SF. It is priced like a 5 star and it ain't that. The rooms are small and our room had a smell. I had to spray air freshener. Then the hot water had issues the first night... They got things sorted out... but still ... not worth the price.

Cute hotel--but horrible construction outside led to absolutely no sleep for me and colleague in another room. Hotel Manager apologetic--but need refund!! Really bad and no warning given.

one block from the cable car & two blocks from the Muni

Very central. Close to Powell Station, Powell Cable Car and Union Square. It can get warm in these rustic hotels. Not all have AC, but the Abri does. Bathroom is small, but that's how they were designed long ago. Does have free internet, but no complementary breakfast. Would recommend them.

We had a great experience here - super friendly staff, great location within walking distance to Union Square shopping and restaurants. Easy valet parking (its not cheap - it IS San Francisco - but well worth it_. We received a lovely goodie bag with sangria and snacks upon arrival. The only negative is the bathroom is pretty small - typical of older buildings downtown. A great stay - we will be back!

Nice location, great staff-very helpful, comfortable room.

Comfortable hotel. I particulalirly liked the fact the hotel provided workout facilities located within a few blocks of the hotel. The workout facilities were very good. The front desk staff at the Abri were informative, and accommodating. A very nice hotel at a reasonable price.

Although the price was rather steep for the 1st night the other nights stay were very reasonable. The place was very nice, the staff were very pleasant and helpful the location was excellent. We just wish the weather has co-operated and been sunny but alas it was pouring the entire time, but then this was San Francisco and California needs the rain so overall we did have fun!

hotel is close to everything. shops, restaurants and transportation.

This hotel is right in the center of tourism in SF. Off of Market St. and 5th, the Westfield Mall and Union Sq. are a block away and the trolley is at the end of the block (with 200 people in a weekend line to get on it). We were not there for these things, but liked the central location. It was unexpectedly quiet at night--I have stayed in other SF neighborhoods which had a lot more noise at night. The person we asked on the phone about public parking told us we could see the lot from the door - but did not tell us the entrance on their street was closed and we should drive around the other side of the block. We arrived at 1am and were given a bottle of wine, bottles of water and a small backpack as a gift (nice touch). The friendly clerk did not seem to understand any of our questions and answered each one with a clear answer that did not respond to what we asked. Frustrated, we figured we'd google it. This happened with four different staffers within a two night stay. Though friendly and trying to be helpful, they knew nothing about local transportation and even steered us the wrong way twice. It was quite frustrating - and they were out of one of the maps that might have helped. Our card keys (held by different people) were somehow deactivated and I had to go back down to the desk 3 times to rectify it. During this drought we hung our towels back up and put the large sign provided on the door saying that to be green we did not want the room cleaned at all. (Though we just wanted no strangers in the room.) However they came in, cleaned, and put in new towels. Why have a sign at all? The room was very warm (it was hot outside) and the low setting on the A/C was not working. My daughter did not agree, but the sheets felt a bit scratchy to me. Overall, it was OK for a quick trip with my 20 yr old daughter, and a good price for the location. But I would not go there for a weekend getaway with my husband.

Had a nice stay, great location, friendly staff. great place to explore the city from. Easy access stairs are nice to avoid the slow, old elevator.
