This hotel was the only affordable option but we stayed here and the room was dirty, pillow had hairs, the shower was horrible with no pressure and was hard to adjust it’s temperature was always too cold or too hot. The bathroom courtins had fungus. The room is really noisy at night you hear all what’s going on outside and also you hear the noises from the other rooms. There is no elevator so it was hard to carry our things upstairs considering we had a stroller. Only positive thing was the location, it’s close to touristic area. I recommend if you are already there to eat breakfast at “El Cafetazo” it’s cheap and great portions.
Hotel Sunrise is definitely on the cheaper side. The rooms are a bit outdated looking but it gets the job done. The area itself may be sketchy looking at first but I promise you it’s a really amazing mix. What do I mean by this? The area is definitely being gentrified to fit middle class people with the various coffee shops, yoga studios, and hip restaurants/bars. I don’t like using the word “gentrified” because it’s a negative word nowadays but as a tourist this was an amazing spot to me! The hotel is steps away from great restaurants with different price ranges. The neighborhood is sooo diverse! Not too posh yet, but not too gritty. There’s a pick up spot right in front of the hotel where share rides can pick you up. I noticed uber is the cheapest company to ride with and to get to touristy areas like Lombard St, the average cost was around $6-$12. The staff are really sweet and the I felt pretty secure staying there. The door for the hotel requires to be buzzed in at night so no one is just wandering in from the street at night. In the day, sometimes the door is opened which is nice for going in and out. Would definitely stay again if I find myself in SF.
Is it glamorous , no. Is it clean and comfortable, yes. The location is great and the price can't be beat in San Fransisco. The staff was very nice , and very helpful. The neighborhood can get a little sketch at night but that is San Fransisco these days no matter how you look at it, unless you are willing to pay through the nose. The room is small with a private bathroom and shower. I was on the 3rd floor so was a little stuffy, but the gentleman at the front desk gave me a fan and everything was fine. There is also a mini fridge and microwave, a coffee pot and sink. There is no elevator but the stairs are wide and a easy climb. I didn't find it as noisy as people have pointed out, and I stayed on one of the busiest weekends in the city. It is a block away from the subway station and there is plenty of good restaurants markets and bogegas around. I will definitely stay agin next time I'm in the city. I almost didn't want to give a good review because I think its a good secret in the city for the price. i don't think I would recommend it for families but for single and couples , Its a safe place to sleep and store your stuff while exploring the city, without spending a ton of money.
this place is in a great location and has potential. it's filthy! thank goodness it was only one night. I was tempted to go somewhere and buy a swiffer kit and clean the room myself. if it were clean, it would've been great.
Booked this hotel for the night as we got in late to San Francisco and wouldn't be meeting friends until next day. Quickly realized not in the best of locations. Dirty area, lots of homeless roaming around. Room was basic, out of date. didn't feel safe with the old lock on door as "hotel residents" roamed the halls. But it was just for the night and we survived..lol
Room itself was basic and had ensuite shower room, bed made everyday and clean towels provided, bed itself was comfortable. unfortunately location was noisy and didn’t get much sleep, it was quieter in the day then at night, lots of transients In the area, who became very vocal at night, fighting and arguments. Lots of steep stairs so not good for anyone with infirmity, The staff were helpful, with information and when my shuttle didn’t turn up to get me the airport, they went out of their way to help.
hi! i stayed at hotel sunrise from july 27 thru august 2. the hotel is located in mission district ,valencia street ,a great location, central, near downtown, with good bus connections to central sf!.the hotel is very basic ,but it has everything you need for a week stay, or layover. tv ,showers. .it has been newly renowated and smells good and seems very clean and well maintained,a backdraw is its was too hot inside, but a nice staff member offered me a cooler to have in my room, wich was great!.they should have airconditioning iithink!. the price is moderate,.... you get much for the price!!!!.mission can be a bit seedy and some homelesnes etc....on some streets, but valencia street is a great street, with many new restaurants and stores convenience stores atm s and everything yoy,ll need. i think its a good area, you see a lot of skateboarders, bicyclists and trendy people many who works in it and tech industry ...!its funky and a quet cool place to visit.!!!!ssome of the the staff were not so nice ,a bit standoffish and not welcoming, but its ok.......i recommend the hotel . from johnny b.
In the city for New Years Eve festivities so considering price on a big night and what was available, this one fit the bill. Room was small like many rooms are in San Francisco. It was nicely maintained, however the sink was shattered. Carpet a little dirty in front of the door but overall decent. Bed was very comfortable with only two pillows. There is a tv, microwave and mini fridge. Also a small closet with 4 clothes hangers. The neighborhood was ok, didn't feel like a bad neighborhood at all. A few eating places with in walking distance as well as liquor store and coffee and tea shops. Only overnight parking was two blocks away.
The bed/bath room is clean and has a pest control system in place. There is free wifi, a fridge, microwave, basic cable TV, hair dryer, and coffee maker with free ground coffee, etc. It is a safe area and within walking distance to Mission Dolores and to the F cable car to get to Embarcadero, etc. Staff at the front desk is friendly and helpful.
We screwed the pooch and didn't check the trip advisor reviews on this prior to arriving, BAD mistake. If you can get past the urine smells in the front entry way and the 100 homeless people living about 20' from your window or wall (Not an exaggeration) maybe the 90 degree room w/ no AC will deter you. No? Well then the removed smoke detector with hanging wires surely will? Perhaps the fighting peOple in the alley about 20' from you will do the trick? If these are all acceptable to you at $120 per night (plus finding parking somewhere or paying $25 in a lot where he said it isn't safe to leave your car) then have at it. Let me know how it goes, i'll be following these reviews. Onto the parking. That was more comical as they leave at 9pm and leave the gate open, so you are essentially paying $25 to park your car in a place just as unsecured as the street in front of the peddlers. Make sure you step over that patch of feces though, wouldn't want to have to explain that to the ER nurse. This is sadly no joke and a 100% legit review. At least we did get our money back from hotels.com after we saw what we were up against.
