Charming to the core
All was well until the only elevator broke down. Fortunately it was the last day of our stay so my husband only had to walk down from the 5th floor, and only once. Still, it was difficult for him.

We arrived close to midnight and the front desk clerk was very nice and even suggested a place nearby to get food. The property is from early 20th century and looks like it. Very cool and old fashion. I read a review that there is a ghost child on the 4th floor, but that might be false because I'm pretty sure she was in my room... 209. The 1st night I took a shower leaving the tv on ESPN and when I got out cartoons were playing on the tv. So that was a little strange but then the next morning I woke up at 6am and the cartoons were on again. So weird but nothing scary. That room also has an extra little toilet seat connected to the regular seat for a small child, possibly this ghost named Lisa. The bath/shower is one of these vintage clawfoot tubs. It's kinda inconvenient for a shower because the curtain would suck in and stick to me but this tub could be very cool if you're looking to take a bath and snap artist photos for your instagram to make your friends jealous. The entire room has that vibe. Walking to Japantown and Fillmore street for food, coffee, bars, karaoke, people watching or whatever your heart desires is all right there. Location is a 5 star along with the hotel and the people who work there. So if you're looking to get away from the tourist traps and have a more legit SF experience this is the location for you. We loved our stay! Highly recommend it!
The hotel is beautiful, although in need of some freshening. Huge room (suite) and a gorgeous bathroom. Biggest disappointment? No maid service. Other hotels are using Covid as an excuse to cut back. The truth is maids wear masks and gloves when cleaning between guests. Why not daily? It’s just a cost cutting ploy. This should be a fully staffed hotek.
The only problem cold bathroom needs some heat in rooms
Exterior was beautiful, interior a little tired. Hot water worked only sometimes. A bit untidy.

Good location. Nice staff. Charming old hotel. Quaint room, but, pillows are awful. It said in the room information that they had a choice of feather or foam pillows. The foam pillows were flat and hard. We requested feather pillows and were told they don't have them. Air conditioning unit turned on and off all night. No opening windows. Either freezing or hot.
Just OK...in nice neighborhood. room could use an update. good for one night.
We were spending 4 days in San Francisco and this hotel was everything that the website had shown and more. The staff was so courteous and helpful the accommodations were outstanding and the location was very easy to jump on cable cars and to walk to Chinatown in Union Square I will be looking forward to returning to this hotel in the future
