Lovely, cozy room with a good soaking bathtub. Next door is Sears Restaurant, a San Francisco treasure with delicious and well-priced food. Cable car in front, BART a few blocks down and buses galore. Have Clipper Card to explore.

The Chancellor represents outstanding value - amazing downtown location at considerably less cost than the usual chain hotels. Not luxurious, but very clean, serviceable and comfortable. I would stay there again!

Our first visit to San Francisco. We loved it. It was a great area, very walkable and trolley pick up right at corner. We loved the daily snacks in the lobby. We will definitely come back.

Staff was friendly and location was good. Room and bed were comfortable. Only complaint was that the WiFi could be spotty and would be slow during some times of the day. This made it difficult to work remotely.

Room was clean and quiet. Loved the nice touches with a portable fan, soaps, hair dryer, and more. The first night was rough as the room was very warm. The high was only 70 degrees, so I was surpised that the room stayed uncomfortably warm overnight. My room was on the backside and the sun shined in. Windows only open about 8 inches. The next few nights seemed a little better. I felt competely safe in this area.

Happy with this stay. Hotel was an excellent value for a short weekend getaway. Room was clean and well appointed. Charming historic accents with all the modern you'd expect (except AC, which was not needed - ceiling fan was a plus though). Extremely convenient to cable car (stops out front) and BART (Powell Station down the street). Bar area looked nice but was quite small. Free coffee throughout the day was awesome. Might get a little cramped after a couple days, but was perfect for a weekend city break. But even at that, how often are you just sitting at your hotel anyway? Solid 4 out of 5 stars.

Beautiful classic hotel from the early 1900s. The staff were very helpful with everything. My room was exceptionally clean, the bed and linens were so comfortable-I slept like a rock. Nice touches like a jar of candy in the room. Room appeared to be recently updated. Has a good little bar but not open very late (plenty of bars around). Sears Diner next had a great breakfast menu and for one late lunch, I ordered the lobster ravioli. There was nothing wrong with it-I just didn’t care for it and the waiter took it off my check! The Caesar salad was excellent! This location is excellent-cable car stop about 75 ft from the front door. Highend hotel chains on every corner but the Chancellor is family owned, which I can appreciate. Would definitely recommend and I will be back.

The place is pretty nice. It gives that old time feel. The rooms are clean and the staff are very helpful. The women who clean the rooms are especially nice. I would stay again. The only thing I thought was weird is it says Hotel and restaurant. There's no restaurant open but there is a nice one right next door.
