Large hotel just North of town. Check in was fast, and friendly, the room very spacious. The beds comfortable and the room clean. This has 3 floors and has an elevator. Breakfast in morning was adequate and the seating area was large. Just about ½ mile past the hotel N. is a wine/liquor store and a full Grocery store “save on food”. The room has a microwave and refrigerator. We went to the grocery store for supplies and ate in. This hotel is not on the water but just across the street from the water. About 1 mile down the road is a large park/beach area with lots of parking. I would stay here again.
Bathroom had stale air and not fresh at all. Needs a good cleaning. Shower stale water smell was heavy enough to not want to use.
Have stayed here before, and will stay again. Family friendly, laundry amenities on site, and within walking distance to beaches, stores and restaurants.
Staff were friendly. Rooms were clean. Complementary breakfast was very good. Pool & hot tub were good. Location was convenient to Community beach and restaurants.
We had just come from the Nanaimo Travellodge (I also reviewed this) and were disappointed when we arrived in Parksville. Not that it was bad - I'm sure for the resort town it was a great value! However, the room was super old and tired feeling. We had a king room, and it was quiet on the second floor, even with people above us. The breakfast was excellent as per all travellodges we have visited. The location was convenient and parking ample. Our view was of the roof-top air conditioning equipment (ick) - but someone has to have that room, just luck of the draw and really we had a last-minute booking. However..... no skirt on the bed showed the boxspring and left it feeling a bit "cheap". We had toenail clippings in the bathroom when we checked in - we didn't make a fuss, just picked them up, knowing they can "hide" in the grout. I'm sure the room was pretty clean though. No real bathroom fan, just a "continuous exhaust" that didn't really exhaust. 1980's furniture that had seen better days. A not-so-great (but did the trick) A/C. Lots of dust in the corners. Overall clean and a big room, but.....very meh. Considering we spent nearly 40% more on this room than on the Nanaimo room (which was like a resort and SPOTLESS).....a bit disappointing. Checkout - like others, it was efficient but cold. No eye contact, no asking about our stay or anything. Check-in was similar. Again, compared to Nanaimo where they seemed to genuinely care how our stay was and what things we could recommend to future guests, Parksville felt disappointing. Next time we would just stay in Nanaimo and drive to Parksville each day for the beaches/activities. note: we didn't try the pool/hottub.
Met at the front counter during check in by an extremely unfriendly and unwelcoming staff member. I was belittled for reserving a room through Expedia. The staff member just did not seem to want to extend a welcoming greeting or possible resolution to fixing a small problem with the room reservation. While I had reserved the correct room for beds to accommodate four of the five members in our family, I was told that there was not a roll away bed available even though I had requested one on the reservation. I was further informed that had I called the hotel directly and not relied upon a third party website, there would not be this problem. I was made to feel like that it would not be possible to stay at their facility because of the minor inconsistency with the details. It was very strange that the attendant would just stare at me as she informed me of the issues but would not in any way shape or form extend a resolution to accommodate me. Because our exchange of dialogue was so awkward, she at one point told me that it must be because I was tired from traveling and it being hot outside that I was disappointed that there wasn't a roll away bed available. Apparently this situation was entirely my fault and she was not going to offer any customer service whatsoever. I would have to agree with the one review I read that mentioned "the front counter staff being a little cold". Man! It was blizzard like conditions standing at that desk! Once the ordeal was sorted, we made our way to the room which appeared a little outdated but was fine. We made do with what we had but I would certainly not return here as a first choice given the greeting we experienced or lack thereof. You only get one chance to make a first impression and the greeting in my opinion at any hotel should always be warm and welcoming.
It can be difficult to get rooms in parksville unless you book well in advance. I generally avoid travelodges because they are often shabby. The Parksville travelodge is better than many. We had rooms on the 3rd floor. Quiet, beds were comfortable, and room was reasonably clean. Hallways are starting to look a bit shabby and could use some work. Front desk staff were reasonably efficient and courteous.
Our stay was short but good. The room was clean and somewhat modern despite the age of the building. The pool was nice however it was pretty shallow so no major swimming. The breakfast offered was good and had lots of selection. Overall a good stay with a good location near town.
Had a terrific stay at this hotel. The hotel front staff is somewhat cold. But beyond that the stay was just a charm. Breakfast is simple, but sufficient. The room is clean, and amenities is adequate.
Considering that prices in Parksville can be sky high during the summer ($300 a night +), this hotel offered an excellent price for our two-day stay ($160 a night for a king room that overlooked the beach). This hotel has been recently renovated so we had a new bed with nice linens and the bathroom had been redone. Most importantly, there was a functioning air conditioner and overhead fan in the room which made the room very pleasant to sleep in. My understanding is that they are still needing to do the carpets and some furniture but everything was clean so a few scratches on older furniture is not my concern. The staff was very pleasant. The only issue we had was with the restaurant in the hotel which had so so food and not good service. One night we sat on the patio to have a drink and the margarita was one of the worst I have ever had. There are plenty of good restaurants up and down the Parksville strip that are better to go to. This hotel sits on the north end of Parksville beach and has water access by walking down a path and a small set of stairs. Of course, the main attraction to this whole location is the beach, with its low tide exposing up to a km of sand each day. This makes the water when it comes back in a delight to swim in and safe for small kids as it is shallow. Parksville beach is not large - about a 15 min walk to the other end where there is a kids play park. The larger beach, Rathtrevor, is about a 8 min drive south and there is plenty of parking there.
