We stayed here as we were going to the Theatre, very comfortable stay, all staff very helpful and polite and smiling! It was a birthday weekend and the Hotel made it extra special for us. Within walking distance to the theatre and Covent garden and other attractions. Next time in London we would stay again.
I stayed here in November 17 for 2 nights with 2 friends. Room clean and orderly; bathroom small but clean. Nice staff and wonderful position, quiet and 5 minutes by foot from Russell Square metro station. Pub, restaurants, market ... 5 minutes by foot. I certanely suggest it for a holiday in London. (possibility of leaving luggage at the reception) ——————— Soggiorno con 2 amiche a novembre 17 per 2 notti. Stanza e bagno piccole ma pulite. Staff disponibile e posizione meravigliosa a soli 5 minuti a piedi da metro e servizi di ristorazione. Consigliata per vacanze in città. (Possibilità di lasciare le valigie in reception)
Recently was spending a couple of nights in London and having stayed here previously, decided to use the same accommodation. There was an issue when we arrived but when it was raised with the hotel, it was rectified efficiently and promptly. The breakfast as when previously stayed was great and plenty to choose from. The service received was great as in the past!! Would recommend this place again to anyone and would definitely have no hesitation in staying here when next in London..
Stayed for one night and we were very happy. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Room was decent size, clean and perfectly adequate for a one night stay. The hotel is in a great location, 5 min's from the tube at Holborn,15 min walk to Covent Garden and Oxford St. The are plenty of coffee shops nearby and a couple of pubs in the adjoining St. We were very happy.
A good, centrally located hotel with a filling breakfast. The standard that you would expect for that price in London. The hotel was clean but could do with a touch of paint in places. The rooms were a bit small but the staff were vere friendly and helpful.
Nice room!...clean and tidy! Always topped up tea bags and shortbread in the room. Good location to be in and you can walk to Oxford Street in 15mins. Also very close to Russell Square tube station so you can get around easily. Staff very friendly and helpful.
I stayed here for 2 nights with my daughter and found the staff to be friendly and the breakfast was quite good. The housekeeping staff really do a good job. If you like vanilla you will not be offended by the stench of it as you enter the hotel. All other feedback warns not to have a room at the front because of traffic noise but you really won't be getting much sleep if you have a room at the back. It is a very annoying sound like a noisy fan running all night. The hotel is undergoing some work but this is so long overdue as everywhere is tatty dark and very worn.
Stayed for one night as I left booking my hotel through too late and this was all that was left. It's very different looking to the pictures, they are either old or very well taken (possibly both). Location is good as you're not far from Holborn tube and there's lots of bars/restaurants around. There's no lift, which doesn't bother me but worth being aware of if stairs could cause you difficulties. Carpets on the stairs are threadbare and torn, all the doors on corridors look very shabby - the place just needs redoing from top to bottom. Having spare bedding just piled up on the stairs really isn't a great look either, things like that just lying around looks poor. The room was ok, far more tired and worn than the pictures implied though. Severe lack of power points, only 2 that I could find and none by the bed - this is a pet hate of mine as I use my phone to tell the time in the night if I'm away. Food at breakfast was basically the minimum you'd expect, even though it opened at 6:30 they were still putting things out at 6:50 as I was leaving. I would have marked the hotel as 2 rather than 3 but the check in/out staff were all very nice and probably the best bit about the hotel. Overall I wouldn't stay again unless I absolutely had to.
Just stayed here for 2 nights with my partner. We were in London to site see. We didn’t use the tube but there is 2 stations near to the hotel. Great for walking to all top attractions. On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff and check in was painless. The room was great a double bed a desk and a chair. Bath with a shower. And a full length mirror which is great for us girls. On check out which is 12pm we asked for our bags to be saved and this was not a problem. Overall great location friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely stay here again when we visit London again. Thank you for a great and hassle free stay.
Came to stay for a short 'Selling Book Rights' Course at UCL and chose it because it sounded interesting and although warned about the basic accommodations by other guest reviews, Southampton Row is a 10-minute walk to the University. Travellers should be warned that extensive, noise intrusive repairs are being carried out and I wasn't warned about this at booking. Avoid room 119 because it's location gives you a front seat into the world of builders with all their loud, sweary & 'colourful' charm. I had to move rooms to the second floor which was much quieter and I wish I had asked for that earlier on in my stay. The accommodations are basic. Think Holiday Inn Express rather than 4-star hotel. I know 4-stars is always a bit dodgy and veer wildly from the sublime Armathwaite Hall in the Lake District to well, this hotel but my room 119 was a wee bit bigger than my room in halls at University! I only had breakfast which was again, basic. No pots of tea or coffee - just the one cup but the pastries were flaky and fresh. So why award 4 stars when this is a pretty poor review so far? Because of the staff. Some of the best service I have ever experienced and back in the day, I have had the pleasure of staying at Raffles in Singapore and the Ritz in Madrid so I have some experience. Greg, in particular, deserves a mention because he single-handedly kept me from changing hotels. When I complained about the noise I was swiftly shown another room with courtesy, understanding and a swiftness that took me by surprise. A free breakfast in room on my last day was also granted (which Greg brought himself). This hotel hero, Greg, could be a concierge at one of the grander hotels. And we all know that concierges really are the powerhouses in hotels with knowledge & secret powers of 'getting things; that would make MI5 wilt with jealousy. And a brief word about cleanliness. I could have eaten off the floors. Incredible clean - a sparkling bathroom and wonderfully turned down bed. Thank you, Housekeeping. So would I stay I again? Not while the repairs are underway but I would consider it for the 5-star staff in what is, at present, a 3-star hotel. Hurrah for Greg and his staff although he will probably be poached by The Ritz before very long. Mrs Stirling
