Holiday Inn Express London - Swiss Cottage3.0 out of 5.0

We stayed at this hotel for five days. It was reasonably priced, clean, the breakfast was good, and it was very quiet at night. Once or twice the room-service staff forgot to top up the toilet paper or tea bags, but that was the only problem, if you can call that a problem. I'll definitely stay there again if I go to London. It's also worth mentioning the fact that the tube, Finchley Rd, is just across the road. Moreover, there's a good, old-fashioned pub, The North Star, a short walk from the hotel.
I always think that you are unlikely to be surprised when staying at a Holiday Inn. You can expect a certain guaranteed level of accommodation, service and hospitality and that is certainly the case at the Holiday Inn Express at Swiss Cottage. The location of the hotel is very good. Although it is a short walk from Swiss Cottage itself, Finchley Road tube station is just across the road. Hampstead Heath, Primrose Hill and Belsize Park are all very close. The reception area is quite large with a modern ambience. There is a lift to all floors and the rooms are adequate in size, in good condition and furnished in typical Holiday Inn style. Our room was quiet and well-insulated from any external traffic noise. Downstairs there is a bar and a sitting area where the inclusive and quite extensive breakfast is served. The staff were all very helpful, friendly and efficient. We dropped off our bags before we checked in and collected them mid-afternoon on the day we checked out, and they were very obliging in dealing with that. There is very limited (five spaces), payable (£20 per day) car park at the back of the hotel, but you would need to book this well in advance and be warned that midweek, the surrounding streets are all resident-only parking during the day. This is not a high-end luxury hotel, nor would you expect it to be. However, if you are looking for a reasonably priced, clean, comfortable base in a great location in north London to explore, both local attractions and the city itself, this admirably fits the bill.
I stayed there recently as I had builders in my home. The staff are extremely pleasant and friendly, my room was small but perfectly okay, the bed was large and comfortable, the bathroom clean and well lit. My only gripe would be that there is not a single drawer to put anything in, and only one bedside table for the double bed. Also no wardrobe, only a few hangers. This would be okay for a couple of nights, but not enough for anything longer. i really enjoyed the breakfast, there was quite a lot of choice and the food was very good. However the choice of food if you wanted to eat there in the evening was very limited. I had a room at the front and was not bothered by any noise even though there is quite a lot of traffic along Finchley Road.
even situated on a very busy avenue, you can stay, if asked, on a quiet room on the back of the hotel. room 301 for example, little, with no window opening, but comfortable for a stay of 5 nights as we did. the breakfast, included in the rate, is standard, no more, service and reception smiling even having no maintenance available (flush not working in the toilet) on a friday afternoon. But friendly solution found with access allowed at the closest room in front of our.
This is a great loacation to be close to everything. +Tube station less than half a block outside. +Bus stop even closer. +National Express stops out in front. You can get to Stansted or Luton for $25 round trip. +Using Black Berry cars it was $43 from Heathrow. It took about an hour. +Free breakfast which had bacon ( ham slices in the US ) eggs, various breads and beans. + There is a Salisbury next door in the O2. It's a grocery store. There isn't a refrigerator in the room though. -Rooms are small but you are only there to sleep really. -We stayed on the 6th floor on the Finchley road side. Traffic noise wasn't to bad but the lights right outside the window made it seem like daylight all the time. - There was only 1 or 2 electrical plug ins in the room. - This shouldn't be a negative but is odd I guess. The room temperature is controlled by the front desk. The electric only works while in the room. You have to leave your room key inserted into a switch in the room. It was a great location to sleep.
Visited this hotel on a trip to see football at Wembley. For this purpose this hotel was a very good choice. Rooms are quite basic standard but nice. The free breakfast is a bit limited in choice but still makes starting the day a lot easier especially with kids. The staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. The location is very good for accessing Wembley and central London.
It’s very conveniently situated a three or four minute walk from Finchley Road tube station and opposite the O2 shopping centre where there are several of the chain restaurants. If you want to buy food in a supermarket, there’s a Sainsbury’s in the O2 and a Waitrose just as you come out of the tube, so no problems if you need to eat locally and quickly. The check-in staff we came across were pleasant and helpful and the room itself was fresh and clean. Beds were comfortable, as were the pillows and coffee, tea etc were supplied. The bathroom was clean and although it’s one of those hotels with soap dispensers on the wall, there is a notice offering complimentary items if you’ve forgotten something. The shower was good. We didn’t use it but were surprised that the room service looked such good value for money - £10.95 for fish and chips and under £5 for a dessert. For such a small serving area, there was a good choice of food at breakfast and the bacon was very good quality and delicious. As there were no croissants left, my friend asked if there were any more and was told by the member of staff she spoke to that she would go and cook some. True to her word, she not only did this but brought two piping hot ones to our table shortly after. The only problem with our particular room was that it was at the front of the hotel with fairly regular traffic noise all night long. If you’re a light sleeper do make sure you ask for a room at the rear of the hotel.
I have stayed at this hotel four times over the last few years. The rooms are very comfortable, a very nice breakfast is served in the morning, and the staff is excellent and always go out of their way to make my visits very pleasant. Swiss Cottage is a very nice area of London, just a few tube stops from central London. The area has lovely cafes and restaurants and there is a nice shopping and dining complex just across the street from the hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to London.
Positioned about a mile or so from the West End, Holiday Inn Express should be £60-70, opposed to the £150 charged, plus £20 parking. Friendly staff and room and breakfast to the usual standard, however the net curtains could benefit from a clean, let the room down, but overall a good stay.
I chose this hotel because its location directly at the Finchley Road bus transfer stop from Luton Airport. For that it is excellent! The place is clean and has a good breakfast. All the staff we dealt with was helpful and nice. The only reason why I give it a lower rating is that we travelled with 2 children (11,12). I understand that it is difficult in europe to find family rooms (ie. 2 queen beds) and that a one bed with sleeper sofa is the name of the game. But at this place the ”sleeper sofa” was about as functional as a hammock. All the springs were useless. It was hammock formed long-ways and width-ways so my child and I were back-to-back all night and I had to put pillows under the ”mattress” to even it up under our waists. other than that if I was traveling with just the wife I would use this place again for its convenience to the airport transfer and the underground.
