Very nice hotel, clean and comfortable rooms. The complimentary shuttle to and from Universal Studios was so convenient! The staff was always friendly, whether it was the front desk, the shuttle driver, the valet drivers, etc. Everyone treated us very well! I would definitely stay here again.
It has a classic Hollywood feel. Our first Cabana room was a bit loud being so close to the pool and lounge, but the staff moved us to a quieter one upon request, and they were very cheerful about it (I was initially afraid to ask). The interior of the hotel is very beautiful, especially in contrast ...
Loved our stay! Beautiful place, awesome bed!! Loved area in bathroom with giant vanity lights to get ready for the day. Only missing the light up magnifying mirror. With the baby boomers getting up there with changing eyesite, the magnifying mirror would be a great addition. Breakfast in restaurant ...
Good location for Hollywood touring or visiting friends and family. Great parking, walking distance to Paramount Studios. Funky, mid century decor. Smallish rooms but big compared to NYC rooms. Good restaurant-bar in the lobby. Enjoyed it very much.
If you want to stay in downtown Santa Monica but not right on the beach, this is a pretty good choice. The hotel is modern and well-maintained, and the property is within walking distance to most restaurants and businesses as well as public transportation. (Only downside is that it sits right on the 10 Freeway, which can be busy and noisy.) The hotel is a bit of a panopticon - if you have an interior room, remember to draw your blinds or someone will end up peeking in on you. Front desk staff seemed overwhelmed when i checked in and checked out, but this didn't otherwise affect my overall stay.
The Sportsmen has a great retro "Old California" vibe to it. We loved it. It's clearly an old hotel, but they have done a lot of work to upgrade it. The grounds are beautiful and the poolside area feels great. We also loved the Patio Cafe and the southwestern fare. If you're looking for a classic Hollywood vacation with the family, this place delivers without too much of a dent to your pocketbook on rates.
Staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. Quaint rooms, clean bathrooms.
Pleasant, experience. a good location, near freeway. Room was clean, bed was comfortable.
