About 50 miles northeast of New Orleans and 250 miles north of Miami lies the center of automobile racing, Daytona Beach. Daytona Beach is home to the Daytona 500 and NASCAR racing. A mecca for tattooed motorcyclists, known for its wide, hard-packed white sandy beaches, gaudy carnival attractions and a surprisingly good art museum, Daytona Beach is a town with many personalities. Explore all that Daytona Beach has to offer while staying in one of the city’s boutique hotels.
If race weeks or spring-break periods are not necessarily your thing, there is still plenty to explore. Get active and head to Daytona Beach for swimming, surfing, and unusual drive-along-our-beach options. Then, visit the Daytona Beach Pier for a casual stroll and a quick marvel at this newly restored historic attraction. This is also where you can please the inner child in you and hop on one of the roller coasters, dive into the Daytona Lagoon waterpark, and entertain yourself in the Boardwalk amusement area.
Maybe you also like to enjoy free live music? Get ready to listen to sweet tunes at the Daytona Beach Bandshell in the city’s Oceanfront Park on the north end of the amusement area. Once in the amphitheater, do not close your eyes to let the music fully sink in, as the building is made of wonderful coquina shells and a sight to behold. More than that, it has a fantastic view over the Atlantic Ocean.
For more culture and education, visit the Museum of Arts & Sciences, which is a self-guided museum. It has a rather eclectic exhibition style, featuring among other things Cuban art, Coca-Cola memorabilia, teddy bears, the 13ft skeleton of a gigantic sloth, and a planetarium.
